Thread: Yes another idea for Ranger
This is actually from a friend of mine that doesn't even play a ranger, but realy enjoys running with me, and my abilities.
Anyway here is the idea: Everyones radar only goes to 32m max default. It can't be maxed out. Now wait before you get all worked up. Some of us look at the personal radar to be a game device to help represent our characters sence of smell, and hearing. Thus giving us a low detail of our surroundings, and what is there. Does it really make sence then, with that model in mind, for peole to be able to "sence" what is around them out to 64m, or 128m, 1024m and beyond? No not really.
So the idea is, at novice ranger you are able to get your radar out to 64m. Then as you go up, say the frontiering line it goes up further. Anyone grouped with you also gets this benefit, and can push their radar out to your max. Say master ranger can get radar out to 1024m. I really don't see any need for more, or even more then 128m, but this is an example.
This would have the second effect of rangers having their /areatrack extend out to 1000m. It would be much easier to deal with that I think since they are the only ones that can even see via radar out that far.
Thats great and all but here is the problem.
First you are taking away something from the rest of the SWG community, which when you take something away from anyone, as we know best with camping and some BH wanting tracking, they usually don't like it. Second is that the radar only picks up things 125m away if even that, if you expand it more all you get is the terrain like the map.
Now larger areatrack would be great, personally at master I think you should be able to just about track anything on your half of the planet, but the thing is this, you would only pick up static spawns, if even that. Most random spawns, like creatures we hunt, are not on area track because they have not spawned yet, and will only spawn once we get closer to them.
Expanding areatrack would still be great, because the ability to track static spawns is still useful, but should be master ranger. I am personally also for the /track command, i think basicly this would just spawn a creature right where it tells you it is, but however it would be useful.
"It does, but its no good to have it any larger than 125m, because you are not going to get anything further out than that."
That is correct...
- The only that seems to be provided by increasing the Radar range is a larger view of the terrain.

NO FREAKING WAYPOINTS!!
Only sissified BHs need waypoints. What they really need is someone to hold their wittle hands, but that is another thread.
If you can't find a creature by distance and compass heading - that's just sad.

I swore if u hit ALT, a + and - appear on the radar and one of them makes the radar extend to 64m, then 128m, etc. I'm pretty sure it still does this.
I use the defaults, the "/" and "*" on the keypad. "/" zooms in and "*" zooms out. Good forthe crowded debre field that your T21 changed fromthe pack of wild animals that were standing there a minute ago

I agree with the substance of this post. I'm new to the ranger profession, but even I can see "Mountain Dewback - SE" (I don't have distance yet) and find the creature. I want to have to do SOME work.
