Thread: Camo testing part 2: A night on Dathomir
"+38 Camo/Mask scentfrom cloths."
Recognize that only +25 of those enhancements are actually being used.
"A Vehicule greatly increase detection chances. To a lesser extend with mounts."
Yes, I've come to the conclusion that it is the speed of travel that dictates the increase in failure rate...
- Namely, if you go faster you will be revealed more often.
Previously I believed the success rate was dictated by the player posture, but the speed theory seems to fit better. ![]()
"When we are uncovered, we can usually recover before aggro"
If you happen to be outside the 50m aggro boundary when your concealment failed, youshould never be aggroed by the reveal.
- However, a creature should attack immediately if you are within 50m of it when the conceal fails.
This is not accounting for creatures wandering over to your position while you are waiting and attacking you normally. ![]()
"Camo is less efficient on other players (from earlier obsevation)"
It is less effective, that is correct.
Great information!
It also answered another question I had. Master Rangers with 100% Maskscent/Camo can add items to get up to 125% max.

Actually if you happened to be a Bothan you would receive an additional +15 on top of that, pushing the maximum to +140 for camoflauge. ![]()
Assuming you don't have significantly negative faction, in which case camo is completely ignored. Not that it will matter when NPCs are removed from camo.
It is safer to get high faction. Of course, if a highly positive faction aggressive breaks your concealment within 40 meters, they will aggro you due to the "enhanced aggro" feature of conceal and maskscent.
To me, conceal was actually more of a liability since my enemies ignored it and my allies were coerced into attacking me. I say "was" because I dropped Wayfaring completely. Sadly, I've had significantly less problems since then.
I hunted Dathomir all night, and my hopes for /conceal are going up again. Maybe i wrongly thought we got nerfed. Here is my observations:
Night started by collecting the camo ingredient. 2 baz nitch and a Rancor later, i craft my first camo stack. I use it, and walk around a bit.
First., i got uncovered 3 times in 2 minutes by Baz Nitches. Very annoying. I was about to drop log but decided to pursue the test. I'm glad i did.
After about an hour, i gathered this from creatures: Most creature just can't see me. I could sit among Enraged Bull Rancors (lvl 89) unoticed. BUT, it appears that some creatures were constantly uncovering me: Baz Nitches, and Craggy Bolams. As much as rancors were blind, these annoying Baz would just see me very very often.
I also gathered this: I was getting uncovered more time on my speeder then on my mount, and more time on my mount then on foot. I actually tested on a mutant Baz Nitch lair: The test was trying to reach the nest and stay there for 30 seconds.
I succeeded 9/10 on foot, 7/10 on mount, and only 4/10 on speeder. This was very significant to me. On a side not, when i got uncovered, i could still re-conceal 5 sec later and avoid aggro.
I also tested NPCs Nightsisetr clans and Singing mountain clans moslty could not see me. I found a small camp, and i could sit right among them. Using the speeder was another thing tho. Testing again, i could reach the middle of the camp 6/6 on foot, but only 1/6 on speeder! But again, i could re-conceal before i got aggro (and glad i did, this was scary).
I then headed to the Nighsister VS Mountainclan POI. Same laws applied, i was invisible on foot... UNTIL a Nightsister Rancor spawned. This big fellow kept uncovering me, so much i had to leave the region and my container camping... (milk annyone?).
I then did a quest for a NPC at the outpost (an Ithorian, wants me to escort another NPC...) To do so i had to kill 4 red-dot NPC. Well, they were aggro, at 64m, 100% time. It didn't even break camo, they just attacked. Guess quest NPC are coded differently.
I finally finished the night at the Nightsister Labor Camp. There, i reach the cave and walked all the way down to the deepest, and /emoted hugs on the bosses. There was about 50 red dots in there. Not a single camo break.
Strangely, once outside, i got 2 conceal break, but i noticed 2 (scout) NPC then.
I then logged.
BTW, I'm Master Ranger with +38 Camo/Mask scentfrom cloths.
Conclusion:
- Camo still works on NPCs
- Some NPCs and Creatures seem to have an higher chance of uncovering us (Baz, Craggys, Nightsister Rancors, Scouts, and from earlier experience: any lowlife NPC like Thugs or Goons, and quest NPCs)
- A Vehicule greatly increase detection chances. To a lesser extend with mounts.
- When we are uncovered, we can usually recover before aggro (5 sec) if you hit F1 + conceal fast enuff.
- Camo is less efficient on other players (from earlier obsevation)
Tomorrow i'll try to get a friend in the Nightsister dungeon with me, see how camo works on him.
Well I was interested by the first part of theis thread, walking hand in hand with stormies and all that jazz.
So I decided to see what a master ranger could do for the GCW. I found several different Imperial bases.
the Turrents spotted me 100% of the time
The AT-STs Spotted me 100% of the time
The Covert Faction Scanners were tough to figure out. I was overt, but I watched them do their little pulse animation, and then I would come under fire from the base.
So it would seem to me that no....I have nothing to offer the GCW.
Move slow, possibly crawling, and with Mask Scent I have petted Krayts and Kimo's. Crawled right up to them.
Walking slow works with less ferocious creatures. Camo doesn't really do anything different. I have just as much success with Mask Scent on MOB's.
Now, the exception to this is with NPC's of course.. but there is no guarantee there, and we have already been informed that its NOT supposed to work on any of them and from that I think we can infer that it may be removed whenever they get around to it.

I agree that if you have negative faction NPC's attack you. I have been concealing recently and I get attacked but the conceal does not break? Is this right? Did it do that before or has something changed recently?
If sony are going to change something then they should at least let us know that there has been a change, as then at least we know what to expect up front and not have to work it out for ourselves.
The last question I have is does the camo skill points stack on top of mask scent, i.e. does mask secent work better for a Ranger than it does for a Master Scout?
I enjoy playing a Ranger, always have in other games, so I'm sticking with it and hope that some of the skill tree becomes more useful that it is.
