Thread: Rescue ..... Better known as Suicide skill
I would just like to ask how many Rangers actually use this skill.
I have used it a few times while helping friends new to the game, to hunt little creatures (Durni's and Worrts Etc) and it works just fine under those limited circumstances.
Recently i have been hunting more serious critters and i have come toa conclusion, it is seriously silly to even have the option anywhere near an fkey.
What exactly is the point to a skill where you get to rescue a person at the cost of your own life?
Prime example, Dathomir, Night time, raining, Large group on hunt, see a friend getting aggroed by multiple Animals Other heavy hitters protecting the body of the incapped soon to be corpsified Doctor we brought with us. Thought process goes something like this.
'Hey, My friend the heavily armoured brawler is getting owned by those 3 Gaping spiders and that poisonous lizard thingy and is about to die!'
'This is a time to use my innateskills and knowledge when concerned with animalsand give him a moment to recuperate.
After all i have a strong shirt and a thick pair of boots, obviously the Spiders wont be able to hurt me due to my Ranger skills. I'll just target him and hit the f key.
' Hey Spiders! Look at me waving my arms in the air. Why dont you all chase me and leave my heavily armoured friend alone as you have hurt him near to death? Come on chase me, you too Mr Lizardy thing. Bring any friends you have too.See me waving my arms and not shooting anymore? I am easy meat for you? Come on, attack me.
'Thats it, now chase me through the wilderness taking lumps out of me. Mind your step thereMr Lizardy thing, those Rancorssurrounding us are apt to get grumpy i we go gallumping through thier territory.
This is perfect, My rescue skill is working like a charm i now have about 5 huge poisonous or diseased animals chasing me and nowhere to go.
'Ok all done guys, No need to eat me any more my friend is probably safe now. ............ seriously, i dont think that is very polite of you Mr Spider. Ow that hurt!'
'Excuse me Mr Spider,Is that my foot you have in your mouth? Can i have it back please? And Mr Lizard thank you so much for leaving my entrails nearby, it is so annoying when you cant find your own liver.'
I do hope my friend os ok now as i did not want him to have to clone and pay for more insurance etc. Hmmm whats this window that popped up on my screen? Nearest clone station, Science outpost. Click.
Quite possibly the most ridiculous thing in any skill set or profession is the Rescue skill. I have now deleted it and consigned it to the contaminated waste in the knowledge that if on my Fkeys i will be foolish to try and save someone again.
If we must have a rescue skill, is there no way it can be coded so they aggro for a few seconds only? an we at least have a remote chance of surviving, short of burst running 500 mtrs away from the safety of the hunt group through rather inhospitable terrain?
If that is not possible then i request the skill name be changed to 'Voluntary yet heroic suicide' to better fit the actual actions following it's use.
/rescue is definitely not for the weak of body, I agree.
Though it does work pretty well if you happen to be a melee combatant and have sufficient toughness to survive the onslaught. ![]()

Which is why I'm utterly dumbfounded as to why Wookiees get a +10 to the ability.
*blink*

Really, I though you Wookiees were supposed to be rough and tumble furies of fur.
- You can't a wee bit of mauling while rescuing the medic in distress?
Though at your size, I can see why a creature would be attractedby your waving far more often than others of lesser stature. ![]()
Yup. Just about our only unique skill, and hardly anyone ever bothers with it. Yay.
And I love the fact that just about every SEA I ever loot is always a "Rescue +1" or "Rescue +2". It couldn't be a pistol speed or accuracy.....noooooooooooo! It has to be an SEA that improves an ability that nobody ever uses. Yay.
First, have a few traps ready to go things like P-Dart and adhesive mesh work well for this.
Second, Be far enough away to do some good 50 -60M.
When you get their attention, around 45M throw the traps, Slow them down, and burst away.
Hmmmm. Remember the fact its Dark (Dathomir gets pitch black), Raining, and there is a mass attack from 2 lairs in my suicide scenario, so my group is mixed up with mulitples of targets. When i rescue my friend i pull 4 critters after me that are all faster than me.
Throwing 4traps at the right Mobs, all of whom are charging at me with drool dripping off thier fangs, amongst the general and chaotic melee thats going on in the dark, is not something you can do quickly. In fact throwing darts etc as this point is far more likely to annoy yet another spider and make things worse lol.
Perhaps my problem, as stated before by someone, is the fact im a rifleman lol.
After posting this thread i have given the skill another chance and actually survived. Admittedly it was against War Grolbs on corellia this time but it did actually work. Now all i have to do is find somewhere i can use it against animals that DB but are too slow to catch me up a hill hehe.
On a side note, is it me or do we actually run faster uphills than we do on the flat? It may be an optical illusion but i am not so sure anymore.
the way it works is not for a weaker player to rescue a stronger player (weak in terms of damage taking capabilities). If you choose to use it that way, you shouldn't complain you get your ass kicked. I would have used this command a lot more had I figured out how to use it. I've used it while targetting a player that was being attacked and while targetting the creature attacking, but nothing ever happened. So instead I simply throw on my armour and taunt everything that's agroing to make it attack me. I was a Teras Kasi Master with mediumly decent Ubese armour, so it's a very useful ability when a ranged fighter accidently gets attacked at point blank range by several enemies. For a ranged fighter it is less useful because you'll have to run away about 100m to stop the agro, or take damage at melee range yourself. I have yet to see a creature that will chase me for more then 150m, and I can run back to the group in a few seconds from that distance.
Perhaps that is the problem. A Ranger has not really got much advantage in damage resistance against creatures. Even your own use of the skill would require another profession and ubese armour lol.
There should be some kind of Creature evasion skill modifier that kicks in once rescue has been activated. Just for a few seconds and it should reduce your combat capability at the same time to reduce the chances of people using it for things other than its proper use.
Perhaps Rescue should be an on/off skill. Whilst you hit rescue you run around waving your arms and dodging creature attacks until you hit the key again and can engage with a weapon. The only problem i could forsee with that would be the animation. Rangers could swiftly become known as the 'hand waving shrieking little girl class'. hehe

I dont know what your combat skills are like but mine are so poor (having used sp on medical) that I'm quickly getting Rangers that rep all on my own I think. ...and thats without inviting trouble for myself with the use of /rescue.
I tried it a couple of times but found that as soon as it kicks in I start a'runnin and the guy I "rescued" invariabily starts a'shootin' again so we are all back to square one as the beastie makes straight back for him. No, I've found that the use of my medical /dragincappedplayer and a good heal is normally more appreciated than a foolish attempt to play the hero...

If your fellow combants are busy lead critter away is not lead it to them, add glow-re trap then too.
Yeah, I guess that's one advantage to being a melee Ranger: with 57% unarmed toughness before I even throw on the armor, I wouldn't think twice about rescuing someone from 3 gaping spiders and a voritor. Sounds like fun, actually.
