I am currently a master ranger/fencer, and this works well for me against creatures, npcs like mokks, and close range pvp. But i also would like to be a Pistoleerso that i might be able to combat ranghed players and npcs with blasters. Im wondering if anyone can tell me if pistols is worth droping fencer.

I ask this here because im a master Ranger and i want to do this without droping ranger.

I have been a pistoleer since day one. Mastered it twice, dropped down to Novice once and am a "dabbler" right now along with Ranger and CH skills.

As of RIGHT NOW, Pistoleer is worthless by itself.

Wait until after the combat revamp OR take the risk. Only 5 of our specials actually work, Melee KD 1, Healthshot2, Bodyshot2, Healthshot1 and Fanshot. I rely more on my Pets and use my pistol as support for them.

It can be an awesome class and alot of fun, just need to wait to see how the revamp handles it.

Well Im master ranger master pistoleer. Been scout working for ranger since day one, and actually started with rifles, only in marksman, but switched to pistoleer.

For me pistols if fun, exciting, you are kind of up close, but always moving running, rolling ducking that sort of thing. Pistols follows fencer well as far as HAM costs and your stats. I actually consider fencer a lot.

But be warned, pistol is pretty underpowered/unbalanced right now, and a lot of our specials are broken. So I'm waiting for the CB to see if they fix it up. Hope so, its fun. But it depends on play style. If you are thinking of being the long range, sniper/hunter type, then maybe rifles will suite you. But that will require big shift of points to mind.

I love ranger pistoleer.

I was a pistoleer, it was my first mastered combat profession. I enjoyed it, the tactics and challenges were fun.

However, like others have said, the specials are... well... broken.

It was fun, but almost all of the other weap professions are a bit more balanced... except maybe pikeman

On the other side of the coin, while some of the specials ain't worth a bucket of warm spit, the ones that do work work well.

Been a Pistoleer since I decided rifles would get me killed too much and carbines were borked.

Using traps and bleeds, then stopping shot, body shot2/3 and fan shot, there is not a non-uber creature I can't drop without getting touched. Lately, in speed tests, my droid and I been dropping an entire mission lair, 3 spawns of 3, of torturs, in under 5 minutes, to include harvesting and taking the lair out. I DO NOT GET HIT. It is rare for the droid to get hit.

I could probably do this with any ranged weapon quite frankly, but pistols are the most fun as they are the most adaptable to different types of creatures.

I do not subscribe to all the Pistoleer BS about DPS and stats, numbers make my head hurt. If I can drop a lair in 5 minutes, not get hit, and maybe use one stim to bring my action pool back up - that's a win for me.

Oh yeah, no armor, no doc buffs =low overhead + good payout, no chance of a DB, decent harvest = money in my pocket.

I can't compare the 2, but I will say that there is a large variety of damage-types that you can do with pistols. Also, Fanshot can cut through herds of critters like a hot knife through butter.

I was Novice Pistoleer for a short stint, but moved to rifles. I hope they fix pistoleer, because it was lot of fun. Would consider moving back to it.
