I have been giving thought to the upcoming rebalance and I believe it would be in the best interest of the ranger community to start stocking away as much of the great harvest resources as possible.

After all of the changes go into place, combat is gonna be alot harder and probably require a real group again to take on the creatures that drop the largest resource stashes such as rancors. While it is still fairly easy to kill whatever you want in the way of creatures and not have to worry about the group harvest decease penalty, it makes perfect sense to squirrel away 100k stacks of prime resources. After the combat rebalance goes into effect and everything is so much harder to kill, you can break off 10k chunks of your bounty and sell them for a nice profit. I imagine that about a month after the combat rebalance will be when you see the most potential out of your well stocked stores.

Think of it as stocking up your larder for a bad winter. I think that any ranger that looks ahead to possible hunting conditions and plans accordingly will be very happy for the time the invest in setting up a nice harvested nest egg. I am also doing the same with the minor loot I manage to collect such as rancor padded hide segments and rancor bile. They may not be worth much right now, but after it becomes harder to aquire them they will show their true worth.

If enough rangers stock up, there is the potential for the ranger and scout community to really make it's presence felt in the post Combat Rebalance SWG.

I thought about doing this, but realized I'm tired of killing the same crap over and over anyway. I've pretty much stopped harvesting entirely.

For me, Ranger has been one long bad winter =)

I understand how you feel, I also have cut back severly on how much i harvest. But, I am now feeling abit more energized about the whole harvesting situation. If nothing else, think about having a 100k stack of Avian,Carnivore,Reptilian,Herbivore,Insect, Domestic meat. Scaley, Leathery, Wooly, Bristley hide. Animal, Avian bone. and a 25k to 50k stack of milk of both types. That my friend is a potential treasure trove that could put the corvette and bunker to shame.

Admitedly, by the time you collect all of those resources in those amounts you would be a ready for a frontal lobotomy. But the eventual payoff might just make it worth the surgery. I for one am going to give it a good effort to try to get that stash saved up. Hell if I burn myself out, I can always walk away from the game for a month or 2 and try my hand at something else. After that refreshing hiatus I can come back be ready to reap the rewards of all that hard work.

Tsal may be on to something here. I have played a Jedi Knight on TC2. It is still way too early to tell, but if a Jedi is supposed to do more damage than a normal peep (bring it on Ebe ) after the CB, we are hosed! It was taking my friend and I (also a Knight) over a minute to kill a Nym's guard. Droidekas took closer to 2 minutes. And this is with us working together. This is more a warning than anything else...the old way of fast kills are going to be gone. It will be much harder to go out and grab a 10k stack of resources in a night...

So your advocating price gouging? No thanks. I dont harvest often, but when I do, I charge a fair price for my resources, nothing is worth 100 CPU, no matter how much you try to justify it. Its really distrubing that when I offer a Doctor good quality avian at 20 CPU, he almost falls over with shock. That, to me, says that far too many scouts and rangers are gouging the market, trying to get as much cash as possible, and I dont like that attitude.

<Peep> I have been doing just that, stocking up on good resources. nothing like 100k stacks but fair amounts. I have been doing this for as long as I have been a scout. I dont charge rediculus prices, but I domake good money. The CB isnt the reason I do this though. It has to do with making credits to up grade weapons, buy really nice clothes, and give to my master friends when those hard to find good stat harvest are not there. <Peep, peep>

I don't think anyone is advocating price gouging. With the fact that anyone with Master scout and other combat abilities can harvest alot more than we can, I think it would be fair trade. I don't think that many Rangers are gouging the market, from what I have seen most of the Rangers are like yourself, offering a decent price for the community. I offer great prices for my resources as well.

But peanut butter and jelly can only hold you for so long. Gotta have some steak and potatoes. If you understand what I getting at here.

Another good thing about this idea, is not only stockpiling for ourselves, but our guildmates as well. I am in a guild with 4 other Master Rangers. We have a very tight guild. It will help us to get the the things we need when JTL and the combat balance hit. I am sure we won't mark it upto bad, but there is also bartering. I want this, you have this, lets negotiate. Bartering, second oldest job in the world, and you know what the first is already.

I know what your feeling my friend, but sometimes you have to do things survive, and since we obviously aren't getting any help, it is time we helped ourselves.

Price gouging??

Ok, a doc charges 12k for a set of buffs, where the ingrediants cost, on average, less than a thousand total. But wait, he must pay for the factory - yeah he did, profit, first run. And his time - waiting around for a factory, doing whatever. Then his time spent at the Coronet starport, spamming, and making a buttload of money. That is price gouging.

Personally, I have about 50k of hides at the house. No meat, some bone. Ok, you can't drop a torur lair in 5 minutes for your 600 units of hide/meat. Maybe it will take 10. So we double our prices. Not like I sell a lot of organics anyhow. My harvestors are making me a nice profit.

Tho I think I will start stocking away stuff, one never knows.

Charging high prices for resources doesnt stop docs from making massive profits. If I sell to a doc at 20 cpu, they then sell buffs at 6-8k, if I sell to docs at 100 cpu, they sell the same quality buffs for 10-12k. Net result, the docs still make huge profits, but anyone who wants to buy buffs suffers.

Charging 100 cpu for even the best resources makes you no better than the price gouging docs.

This is nothing about price gouging. What I ment about controlling the market, was that we could establish a fair baseline for harvested good finally. I do not advocate sticking it to anyone when it comes to prices, but you have to admit on the average we get much lower rates for our efforts on everything but 2 or 3 items such as Avian meat.

What I had initially had in mind was that one of the every resource hungery docs or crafters are looking for a particular type of resource that they are willing to by at 10cpu for 10k. Now, factor in the projected problems with hunting coming in the near future. Imagine instead of taking a week to hunt up your 10k, you could offer said vendor a 10k stack right then for 15 or 20cpu. Not a huge mark up, but the fact of instant fullfullment of a resource wish, could come in very handy for when you need quick cash.

I think you understand what I am trying to say. Profit is nice, but reputation is what makes your profits possible over the long term. No one expects you to just give your time away. Find what price makes you and your buyer confortable. But the idea of stockpiling resources is a very sound very wise idea for those wanting abit of breathing room after the combat rebalance. Most scouts and rangers have a small reserve of resources in their stores. It is just a fact of the business we do that we have odds and ends laying around. But, if combat becomes that much harder after everything has been tweeked, you will end up burning through your stores rather quick for cash while you start compiling new stocks post CRB.
