Thread: Can someone clue me in on the 'no wild spawn' bug?

'ello Rangers.

I read about this when I was going through the FanFest comments. Something about populated areas with lots of mission spawns getting few to non random wild spawns.

In my early Ranger days when I was running around Naboo there never was a problem finding wild spawns.

Now I've been trying to get my last boxes in Carbineer for a while and the only Ranger thing about me was my Master title above my head but yesterday, I just got sick of it ( I'm building a TKA on another server and boy, the difference is just mindblowing ) and returned to my beloved Naboo.

I got myself a combat/trap/harvest droid, re-did all my Ranger macros, grabbed 2 explorer missions and went East..... and East..... and East..... Zip, Nada, Zilch. Did see some Imperial faction spawns and NPC spawns but no animals. Tried /areatrack, nothing.

I was gutted to say the least. I was looking forward to re-discovering the joys of the profession Crafted my first camp in months and logged out.

Going to try again in a few hours today but does anyone know what's going on? Just a bad day or what?

Basically there is a limit to the number of spawns at any given time.

If you have an area with lots of players, all taking missions, then you have a large number of mission spawns, and a fewer number of natural spawns.

This is not to helpful for rangers :/ (my alt is one and sometimes finding natural spawns can be a nightmare)

Theres a really good thread on the ranger board about this, ill try and dig up a link.

Here ishow spawning worksas I see it. WIld spwans need people to force the spawns. The more poeple around, the more spawns there will be. Now for the problem...ther servers limit how many spwans there will be (to keep from overloading). So, the more people on a server, the less room (memory-wise) there is for spawns. Keep in mind there many servers per "server." i.e. the Wanderhome server is made up of a couple of smaller servers...I think . So to get a lot of spawns, you need to go where there are a lot of people, but since there are people, there can't be as many wild spawns. Go figure...

That is part of it Calc.

The other part is that once all the spawns are made, no new ones will materialize. So as the day goes on the spawn frequency decreases. Add in the fact that people take missions which further reduces the "pool" and you get empty planets.

If possible, try hunting early in the day. That is the best time to find creatures in the wild.

And also the worst time for people that work :/

It seems to me, that to actually find anything decent, you need to be about at server reset... Not good for us euro's, server reset is 4am :/

This is true of random spawns and static spawns..

I'm not convinced it's the populations per server so much as population per planet if you get my meaning. I spend a heck of a lot of time on rori, which is almost deserted most of the time, and I run into wild spawns all the time. I can usually just pick a direction and within 1km I run into at least one lair as long as I'm not on a speeder. If I'm on a speeder, I see less spawns than if I'm skulking about on foot. Perhaps that is the problem for you?

I do believe it was said, by a red name, that there is a 1000 mob per server limit. These mobs are made up of dungeons, missions and natural spawns. As calc said, there are several servers making up a "galaxy" and still yet several servers that make up a planet. Ever hear of the devs talking about problems along the server boundary? This is where one server's "game data" is up next to another servers "game data". Invisable to us.

But the problem is, if one area of a planet is a high mission spawn area, and say it has a dungeon on it, then that one area, or server, is not going to have many natural spawns. That area(server) is limited to 1000. so you have lots of players running missions, and then a dungeon with all its spawns, and there is little room left for the natural spawning mobs.

I will say I work midnite to 0800 and when I get home after servers are back up. I see all sorts of spawns...never a problem. Dont know if it has anything to do with restart, but this morning I walked 400 clicks and ran into 5 BANTHA lairs, 3 SQUILL lairs and numerous NPC and other small lvl lairs!!! Oh, they al had to die!!!

This is the first I've heard of all of this, but it explains a lot. I usually play on Corellia in the afternoons and it used to be that regardless of whether you were on a speeder or on foot there were creatures and NPCs every 1km or so. Now I can go from one edge of the map to the other and see maybe five lairs, and they're usually thinks like durni or paralopes, which aren't even worth my time at this point. There do seem to be more wild spawns in the mountainous regions than the flat lands, but that only means that I can find two lairs in a 1km-square area instead of one if I'm lucky. It's gotten so bad that I've had to go to the advanced planets just to find something to kill, which seem to have many, many more creatures than Corellia, so maybe it does have to do with the number of players on any given planet.

I also work the grave shift though, 10 pm to 6:30 am, and when I play after work I see many more spawns than during the afternoons, even on Corellia. So wild spawn numbers being connected to missions spawns sounds about right to me.

Don't ask me to explain why, all I know is ever since the last patch wild spawns decrease steadily thoughout the day on most planets. In the hours before server reset its pretty hard to find much of anything out in the wilderness. This sounds like a bug to me that should be looked into.

First thing in the morning I pretty much have a lair on my radar at all times. Late at night I can go halfway across the map and never run into anything except the odd npc.
