I thought I'd post this request in the hopes that we may be able to have a different question to ask for our part of the 19 Questions:
Calc: Can you please, go to Thunderheart and/or GreenMarine or whomever is handling Ranger now, and ask point blank "Have you or have you not viewed and discussed the Outdoorsman Proposal?"
I have given this some thought and don't feel it's fair for the Ranger Community to have to waste the one question they get every two weeks on clarification of something we had already thought a given. That being the fact the Developers (the ones that needed to) had viewed and discussed this proposal. More and more of the community is suggesting we abandon the Outdoorsman, and start new, yourself included Calc. I would offer that this question should be answered before we make any move to give up on The Outdoorsman. We can then ask a different question, one more likely to elicit a semi-specific response.
The communities input on this is appreciated.
Respectfully,

Here is what Green Marine said on this subject.

I'm not sure that this requires further clarification.

Or maybe just ask who WILL be our developer and could they please have a small discussion with us about where they want to take our profession. I think we all know and accept that we are not going to get any attention for a long time - the list of things they need to accomplish first is long. Much of our discontent springs from the fact that we seem to be forgotten. No one seems to care. Thunderheart for a while was encouraging us and keeping our spirits up, but after GM's comments at Fanfest the encouragment seems rather empty. Just having someone come and discuss what the plan is, what aspects they will work on first, what the traps that are almost done but shelved are like, how they will work ect. will revitalize us to a certain extent. One of the developers at Fanfest said he had read the Outdoorsman and likd it. Is he going to be working on Ranger? Can he (or she hehe) give us some info on what we can look forward to?
A little info on what the devs think about us and where they see us going will give our discussions direction and purpose. Right now just about anything goes because we have no idea what they want for us. If they give us some info now it might cut down on disapointment later. We've probably been getting our hopes up and focusing our energies on some things that they don't want. It will also give us some time to come up with the right convincing arguments so eventually they WILL want them!
These are some points I am interested in (to hear what our developer thinks):
When you think of Ranger, what do you think of?
What ideas do you have for our part in the Galactic Civil War?
What aspect of our profession do you think will be worked on first? (traps? camps? wayfaring? tracking?)
What is the status of the things we were told were already done? Have they merely been shelved or was it decided they needed to be totally redone?
What is YOUR favorite part of the Outdoorsman proposal (Understanding that this does not mean it will be implemented)
I'd like to hear a developer talk with us like we talk with eachother. I don't mind if s/he often repeats the disclaimer that nothing is promised and nothing is coming for a long time. Just to know that they are still thiking of us and are still as excited about the potential of our profession as we are.
Unfortunately I don't think having this discussion with Thunderheart would do it. I appreciate everything he has done (personally I think his job sucks and he has my sympathy. I hope they at least give him good bennies. And daycare.) But I don't think our confidence is that high in what he has been allowed to tell us. And unfortunately I don't think our confidence is high that his excitement and encouragment reflects the feelings of the development team.
Basically we don't need (but would very much like) anything concrete. Just a little water and a little sunshine to give us something to talk about for the next 5 or 6 months.

Problem is they don't know themselves. Green Marine, who was the developer suppossed to be working on us all that time back, has just started some threads in the smuggler forums abouta plan for them after Jtl. He is just putting a deveopment plan together for them now in anticipation for there revamp in two(?) publishes time.
So in all honesty we arn't going to know until, GM or whatever developer gets around, to doing a similar document for us which won't be until we get some development time scheduled. Basically we're up an un-namable creek without a paddle.

I was about to head over to do jsut this on the Corr forum. A word of warning...if the devs don't want to comment, they don't. I have had many threads die in such a manner...includingFred's stealth proposal. This does not mean I won't bring it back up, though

Vorpacks,
I think you need to stop and think about things from their perspective. They have established their priorities, and communicated them to us, and ranger is among them, but not at the top of the list (why is squad leader before us? oh well, that's another topic). Given that they still have to do all this other stuff first, how eager do you think they are to stop what they are doing and start putting a bunch of time into sorting out what will become of ranger? If you are TH... actually never mind, lol, if you are Green Marine, and you are working like crazy to get space out the door and at the same time thinking about the implementation of the smuggler revamp, how much time would you be putting into ranger? I know that if it were me, the answer would be zero, zilch, nada. And in some ways that is a good thing. When the combat revamp happens, the balance of the game is going to change dramatically. In a way I think we're fortunate that our revamp is happening after that as we will all have a different perspective on things at that time.

I am a patient pest. I can wait for months sometimes and bring it when you/they least expect it ![]()
BTW, don't forget to ask them, perhaps after some time or as a counterpoint to something they bring up, about the function that limits sending the client data about a MoB > 128m from you. ![]()

Wow. Given the responses and the repeated one-starring I received on this thread I guess I will shut up for another 8 months as well.

Don't shut up. I'm not sure why people are one starring this but it definately is a valid thing to ask. The benefit of making it a weekly question is that we should get some response (whereas just putting it on the Correspondent forum might be ignored). But, either way, what would you ask instead? Without this information, there is not much else worth asking anyway (as TH will respond with a wait for [insert your favorite thing to wait for here]).

I will let you in on a little secret I learned. Go to your forum options and turn off the star rating system. Life has been much nicer since I turned it off
. No more wondering if someone didn't like my post, or if there is some moron who one stars becase it makes them feel big. Now I assume evrything is hunkey dorey unless someone posts that they have a problem with me
. Most of you guys have no problem letting me know when you disagree and I appreciate it.

I went to the squad leader and smuggler forums to see what kind of feedback they were getting. Basically SL looks very much like our board, complete with the developer post from months ago listing what was going to be done for their profession. Theirs is from December which seems like just yesterday when compared to ours, but man... December was like half a year ago! Gulp. I did see several interesting statements that were similar to what I was looking for us Rangers. Hope.
Greenmarine has knowledge of Squad Leader issues:
"After meeting with the Devs today at Fan Fest, I have to completely disagree with you, FastWillz. The man in charge of the SL revamp definitely knows what he's doing. He knows he screwed up with the initial SL design and seems very dedicated to fixing those mistakes. And he has stated that we won't be NPC handlers. So we do know where we're going." - quote from a player
Greenmarine IS still interested and excited about all three professions:
"GreenMarine - 'I can't give you a timeframe for the revamp. In fact, you'd probably kill me if I did and we missed it. I can say that I will pour my soul into making the smuggler revamp kick ass. It's very important to me that smuggler, ranger, and squad leader are made to be top notch professions.'" -quote from a player quoting GM
But most exciting was Greenmarine's post yesterday on the smuggler forum:
http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/board/message?board.id=smuggler&message.id=95411
So I agree with you Goldmember that it shows that they are still working down the list and that just because Greenmarine has not read OUR board and proposals does not mean that he is a.) off the Ranger revamp or b.) believing we are fine as is. I do hope I can find something conclusive that proves that we are still on the list.
The smuggler post is exactly what I am hoping for for our profession. Calc, if you do get the chance to ask can you find out if this will be the general feedback format before a revamp? And if we can expect something similar?
