Any hope?

The CU seems to be set on working with the combat professions - not a revamp of the ranger field. We got some love, which I'm glad to see and am not gonna ask for more until after this is done, and hopefully then they can do a ranger revamp

Here's my take on it so far:

For the most part there will be changes to the way Rangers do their job. That's true for everyone else in the game though. Solo hunting will still be viable at certain levels, and harvesting will still be a good way to raise cash.

It's going to be important to have a Combat profession to add to your Rangering. Whether you track for your group or hunt for your guild you'll need the CL bonuses for the sake of keeping up when combat comes along.

High level critters still remain to be really tested (to my knowledge) but I can say that most mid to high-mid creatures are going to be challenging but rewarding in every battle.

Harvesting lower level creatures isn't going to be an XP fest. You'll mostly be attacking these animals just to pull resources. This may end up problematic when it comes to collecting particular things but hopefully we can get the mission terminals put together in a way that will better serve the profession and allow us to more easily hunt particular resources with greater ease. (That is something that is probably going to have to wait until the Ranger Revamp.)

We'll not be top rated combatants right now. There are a number of things that still need to be looked at. Combat specials are not available within the tree (currently but who knows) and thuse we're not 100% combatants. Any other dual Master has more skill and ability options when it comes down to it. But that doesn't mean we're going to be worthless in combat. I think ultimately it will turn out that we'll be playing the support role providing just extra fire power for the time being.

Right now I think the truth is that things are looking up. I'm expecting Ranger to be getting some good skills when the Revamp comes, right now I think the biggest thing we could have hoped for was the CL bonus. I think the devs really understood where we were coming from and ultimately they've made a great decision.

Master Riflemen/Master Ranger, Give me a shout if you need anything done.
Do not forget to entertain strangers, for by so doing some people have entertained angels without konwing it.

I disagree with this.

Ranger is one of the few professions that people are dedicated enough to do, even if we are bugged in some ways and not strong enough in others. As people say "ranger is not a profession, it's a way of life". This can't be any more true - we as rangers don't have a whole lot overall going for us - but many of us stay rangers anyways. I know I've been a ranger for quite some time, as has many others here.

First might I suggest that you need to be a little more specific, by which I mean, are you saying is there any hope for them as a viable profession? for them in combat outside of creature combat? or do you mean as a viable profession in the economy?

I would also always tell you there is hope for Ranger. In a more direct answer to what I think you are asking, I would say yes if you realize the Rogue Begeraset is no longer a challenge level 13 as it was under the old system but is now a cl of 78 ir 79, and with M Ranger and M "Combat Profession" (please fill in you combat profession of choice) you will have a total of cl 80. Having done this last night, I can tell you that one on one you have a good chance of this turning out well if you use a T21 and don't use traps (which is how I tested this scenerio last night, so I can't talk to it as the CU stands currently and using traps as well). One on one I did win. It took time and effort but I won. The second attempted though, I was not careful enough and had his buddy aggro with him. They incapsed me before I got one of them down to 50% or there abouts. So as the new Con info suggests, you might want to take along a friend if you think there is going to be more then one dark blue con, which will be the cases just about all the time.

Now again this is as the new CU is currently. We must remember there may be adjustments made, but they need that input so they can see how it is if it went live today unders it's current state. Regeneration on creatures/npcs is much much faster then it use to be. Do not expect to take on say a cl 90 shot it once or twice, get up and go and wait until your healt is back up and go back at it because before your health can get back up they are already healed. So anything near your own cl level is going to be a problem if you don't have a friend or friends with you.

Now I did this unbuffed, and again without traps, but I did do it with one of the most powerful weapons in the game, so you need to take this into consideration when you think about this. Also do not, repeat do not assume that the cl level of creatures (since creatures on Corellia are supposedly rebalanced now) is going to be any where near the same as you are use to currently.

These statements should not be taken as negatives but simply as information on last nights hunt, as the new CU currently stands and what you might or might not expect in relationship to your question if all this went live immediately without changes.

Hope this helps.
