Thread: Lol, do we really need camo kits? What a waste of programming and productivity
Do camo kits do anything that a sharp eyed person can't do? Most people I know can avoid red mobs with ease, the camo kits are more of a hindrance...and some half baked idea to make usthink we are "Rangers"
I am starting to give up hope on the SWG Ranger ![]()
What do the camo kits do exactly? Someone told me you don't show up on radar when you are wearing camo. Is this true?

"What do the camo kits do exactly?"
- The camo kit is the Ranger version of /maskscent.
- It expands the use of /maskscent to concealment from animals and humanoid NPCs (where /maskscent only hides you from animals).
- You can use it on other people who don't have the /maskscent skill to conceal them from animals and humanoid NPCs.
- It is supposed to have a greater success rate than /maskscent and last longer (both of which are currently unresolved issues).
"Someone told me you don't show up on radar when you are wearing camo. Is this true?"
- That is not true. The camo kit affects only PvE encounters and has effect on other players at all.

I'm guessing this is just a typon and should say has NO effect on other players.."
Why is that, this seriuosly gimps a ranger in PvP. Can't they make it so it works just like a Tusken Raider. I mean if I shoot you and you notice where the shot came from, you should be able to manually target there with a chance that you break my camo, especially if I am on the move....
I am currently working on a Ranger / Rifleman / Marksman, my version of a modern day Marine Sniper. The point being so that I can offer ranged support in PvP. I'm going to be in a lot of trouble if camo'd and concealed you see me on your radar taking shots at you ![]()
Just hoping you can add that to the list!! ![]()
"I'm guessing this is just a typon and should say has NO effect on other players.."
- Thank you... Now how did that happen? ![]()

- Everyone seems to bring this example up. And I retort with the following:
- Given you can target the player, the client program must have the location of that character available.
- So to stop the Radar from displaying said data, code would beadded that checks whether the character is concealed or not.
- A resourceful person can simply adjust his copy of the client program and remove thecheck in the radar code... Effectively allowing him to see through your camoflauge at will.
- If it provides some advantage in PvP, someone will do it. Once that happens, /conceal versus PvP would be useless.
- The only way to get around this problem is to not send the characters location to the client at all.
- But this is effectively complete invisibility, and that was vetoed early in thegame designas a devastatingly bad thing to have available. ![]()
I had the same idea when the game came out. Choose scout/ranger to be a woodsman that can hide and survive. And be a good hidable, ranged support for PvP. Well Rangers are not a PvP profession I discovered. Nothing in the Ranger, or scout for that matter, is meant to be helpful or used in PvP. It is stictly a PvE profession. I'm having loads of fun, and don't regret the choice. But none of my rangers abilities help me in PvP. Only my marksman and pistaleer do. Thus the camo kits help us in PvE. They are advanced version of mask scent. When working right, they should be more effective then mask scent then animals. They add the ability to do same from NPC's.
If you use mask scent much you will realize what conceal adds to the game. If you don't use mask scent much, then I'm thinking you don't spend much time wandering the wilderness, and haning out in the wild. I spend 90% of my time out of town. Sometimes, Waaaaay out of town. Having mask scent saved my hide many times. I have a friend TKA I run with, who doesn't have scout. For us to travel more safely to places and not get bother as much by agroing mobs, I can now apply a camo kit to him. Cool.
