Thread: Ranger Weapon/s
What ever the weapon is it is most likely going to have a ressemblance to a weapon that belongs to another profession. To put the weapon into the ranger tree i think that the Scout tree of hunting should be re-named harvesting and the tracking tree in the ranger profeesion should be renamed hunting. In this tree we should have our tracking skill mods, our special, our weapon certs and the appicable skill mods. Because what is hunting after all? Hunting is about looking for animals and killing them. The problems with this is that the scouts might be angry to lose a hunter title and gain a Harvester/Creature Harvester title, with a weapon being part of the ranger profession this opens up a new type of experience that should be obtainable upon a successful kill while using the ranger weapon. If the tracking and weaponry are combined into one hunting tree what kind of experience should be needed scout xp / combat xp / wilderness xp [or whatever it could be called]. So with all of this the ranger community must ask itself:
Should this weapon be weapon be a melee or a ranged.
-if the weapon is ranged should it have a small range to appease to the melee fighting rangers?
Craftable? Crafted by who? and how?
-should the weapon be a quest reward passed down by a group of traveling ranger?
-should it have lootable parts to it?
Due to the nature of our profession the weapon should be useless in PvP but excellent in PvE. How will this be achieved?
What kind of stats should the weapon have?
-fast and weak damage?
-slow but high damage?
- the best of both?
I think that if we are ever going to get a ranger weapon we need to be thinking more seriously about it.
I dont think we really need any weapons. I mean there are plenty of combat professions already, and even more weapons. What we need is more( a lot more) and much better traps. They could give us almost everything we would need to be "Ultimate Creature Hunters" just by adding some new traps. I was thinking about the Area of Effect traps and then I though of how hard it is to ever land a trap on the really big critters like Krayt Dragons. I wonder if they could make it so the AoE traps affected different numbers of creatures the tougher they were. So if you through an AoE on a pack of dwarf nuna's it would hit every single one, but if you threw that same trap in the general area of a couple of krayt dragons(within the radius of the trap) it would only effect one. And it kind of makes sense if you think about it, if you set off a fire cracker near a little insect it would seem like Armaggedon to that little thing, but if you set off a fire cracker near something as big as a krayt it would just look at you funny, and if so inclined it might make you a light snack. Then they could top it off with some better camp options, better harvesting, etc.
