Thread: Something totally different
It is a good idea and it has great potential. It got me thinking about something though.
What if, in dev cities (since player cities are dead anyway), there were specific places throughout the city that anyone can place a merchant tent. Each city could have a set amount of lots available for this and only a Merchant is able to place an actual Merchant tent while those with the skills to place only vendors could only place those in specific locations as well. There could perhaps be requirements to keeping the Merchant tent and vendors up and running too, such as there must be items on the vendors at all times and if you fall below a certain number of items on your vendor, you are warned that you are running out of inventory and must restock your vendor to keep it in its current location.
Anyway, a good idea that can definitely be expanded upon.
there might be the resource district, the weapon district, etc....

I kind of like having to 'hunt' for what I buy (I am a RAnger, after all...). It certianly takes me to places I have never been (different player cities).
I "would" be of the same opnion if it were not for the fact that soooo many of the bloody vendors were empty....
Given that is the general case the argument for the original posters suggestion is a good one, I'd go for it.

Yes, I like going to places I have not been before, but only in terms of sightseeing and hunting. What I don't like is jumping around looking for armor or weapons only to arrive at the middle of nowhere and find an empty vendor even though it was advertised on the planetary map. An empty vendor, to me,is one of the most frustrating things in the game. The idea of the large market really appeals to me because of that.

In our original city planning, we had an area set up just for that. 6 merchant tents in a neat little strip allowed for 1 stop shopping.
Unfortunately, during the time I was gone, three of those tents disappeared, someone set up a "Mall" (I hate malls, for some reason..) and three merchant tents were set up elsewhere. Pretty much destroyed our little merchant's row.

I was tossing around the idea a while back that they should put stalls along the walls of star ports that you could rent for your vendor. This would be inside the starport where the shuttle lands, not outside. It would give you something to do while waiting 10 minutes for the shuttle to come. Also, if the stalls rented on a bidding system it would be a great money sink.
Ohh, now thats a darn good idea.
I've longed for some type of advertisement system for a long time and putting it in the Starport waiting area is ingenious.
Maybe it would reduce some of those obnoxious AFK spammers around starports. Personally, I think anyone who does such a thing should instantly get TEF'd so I can kill them
