Ok I am wondering If I were to go up to tracking 3. What would I not get that I coudl at tracking 4 or master ranger? Will I be able to track krayts at tracking 3? and How about giant Kimos. I know I won't be able to track players and That doesn't interest me. I remember a while back when I tried out ranger I couldn't track krayts till tracking 4 is that still true?

All creatures are trackable at novice, in theory. However, Krayts and other rare spawns are generally hard to track for; you usually see them before finding them in areatrack.

It doesn't give you a waypoint or anything. You just use that information to find what you are looking for. I am a 4/4/4/4 ranger and I get direction, distance and the animal/NPC/player choices. I have never got a WP. Would be nice though

What is it with people and waypoints??
You have a compass on screen. You are given the direction from you and the distance.
What is the problem? In another post some bozo wants a freaking yellow line on the ground with lil happy arrows to guide him straight to whatever he was tracking.
Consider -
1. Animals move. You see "creature" at 400 meters to your north. I think it would totally mess the game mechanics up trying to keep a waypoint on a moving object.
2. NPCs move.
3. Players sure as hell move.
Try this simple and easy trick. You see your prey at 400m north. Drop a waypoint where you are standing. Take off north. At 200 meters from the waypoint, /ar again. See where the prey has moved to.
Of course, you end up with a gazillion waypoints to noplace, but after a while you can guesstimate distance and kill the waypoint dropping.
Waypoints in areatrack are useless. Act like a Ranger, not like a freaking Bounty Hunter. You want Mommy to lead you to your target, go BH.

Seems to be a common mistake when starting tracking. Sorry, but clicking on the targets name does nothing at all. And, yep, you do have the info on direction and range, so it looks like that box needs widening some.
JB's suggestion of dropping a WP to give yourself a reference point works, I still do it sometimes. Clicking on the nearest 'fixed' object, like a term or house sign, also works. Gives you a point of reference at least.

THe three choices you will actually see are Animals, People, and Players. After you choose what you want to track, the box closes and comes up with a list of results (sounds like you can get this far). The list of results gives you the MOBs name, distance to the MOB and the general direction to the MOB. This will allow to you to actually find the MOB instead of having it put on a platter for you (i.e Waypoints make it TOO easy).

I am currently 3444 and should master by the end of tonight but I am having serious problems with using tracking.
I look and I am given a box with everything within 500m, so I click on the thing I am after, and then OK. Now the box closes and no more information is given.
Please help me with this, thanks!

There is no big deal about waypoints, nor was I expecting a yellow line either, as a newbie ranger, I was not expecting anything, or should I say I didn't know what to expect, hence I am posting here.
Having said that, I do appreciate the help, I now know how to track things ![]()
