When I first levelled ranger, I was also levelling TKM. Traps seemed useful for me as a way to escape if I was in a tight spot. Adhesive mesh or pdarts worked wonders.
Second time, I was still TKM and never used traps because I was doing good damage.

Now we have the forth time. I'm now carbine/ranger and I find traps quite useful indeed. Now, I realize traps were really meant to aid thosein ranged professions (and as an emergency situation as a melee'er).
I began working up swordsman (since i'm not master carbine). Last night (lvl71here), I went gurk hunting for xp. While my scout traps kill their defenses, I still found myself having a tough time killing my mob. I was hitting every few seconds, while it was hitting every second. My one attack was double its damage toward me, but it was outhitting me, thus outdamaging me. This leads me to a question. Don't you think ranger should have a sort of stasis trap? Paralyze the stupid thing while I pound away? Maybe for 20-30 seconds so I can kill half or more of its health (after all, creatures now have preCU buffs)? I had a rare pve death last night over the third incap thing. I was more careful after i rezzed myself. I tended to throw a p-dart when my health was low (of course, i'd get the msg that the trap worked yet my 64m distance wasn't enough since the gurk was still hitting me). I've been resorting to my carbine specials to kill the gurk.
The point of my post is I feel for melee'ers with this CU who will be levelling up with ranger.
