Hello all,

I have had quite a few people tell me they were dropping Ranger because the CU made our skills redundant. I am lost. I don't see wherethat is truebut maybe I am missing something. I don't plan to drop Ranger but wanted to have my Ranger Community shed some light on those comments.

The major impetus for my respecing out of Ranger was traps. I felt that our traps had some serious potential post-cu, especially for some of the snare/root traps. However, the adhesive mesh is broken and I can now acquire these snare/root abilities through pistoleer and carbineer. Moreover, the SP spent here get me addtional speed/accuracy/defence bonuses not otherwise provided by Ranger. This is what started the ball rolling with me dropping ranger.

My favourite skill in the Ranger prof was /areatrack. However, with mission terminals now being the most (and almost only) viable hunting method, hunting in the wild is a thing of the past - making /areatrack of little use to me.

I kept going on the respec down to Scout 4/0/4/0 because I realized that harvest rates are pretty good right now and that I'd be OK harvesting at a level 4 scout. It may not be for everyone, but it's fine for me. I don't use camps and while I will miss both /conceal an /areatrack, I'm finding it not as hard to get over as I thought.

I'm not ranting or b!tch!ng here, but thought I'd share my view on things. The hardest part of it all was dropping my Master Ranger tag. Now, if I pop into a random camp and start chatting, I have to explain that I am/was a ranger.

I dropped ranger a long time ago for some of those very reasons. I'd go out cross country on a hunting contract and enjoying it, while gold diggers would just churn out missions on a bike and make my skills redundant. I can still get the same enjoyment with scout 4242 and not waste all the points on utterly useless skills. It reallly would've been nice if they'd included Ranger in the CU and allowed us to respec it, but it's honestly the most useless profession with the most unrealized potential - it's really sad. Unfortunately my love of the profession wasn't enough to overcome the continued frustration.

FYI: You can respec ranger skills

It's working just fine for me. I'm not understanding alot of the complaints about it. If I use a p-dart then the mesh, my target stays nice and rooted. Now, if you are looking for the flashy lights and symbols to go off, no I'm not getting flashy lights either, but the target doesn't move either. That tells me the trap is working, but the animation isn't. And frankly, I don't care about the animation.

well that's good news then. I tried it over and over on several planets over the course of several days and patches. What I found consistently was that I got the flashy animation and sound and the message telling me the trap stuck. However, the creatures would just keep coming at me. With the flexibility of the respec system, I decided to try swapping some ranger skills for pistoleer (stopping shot). So far, I am finding this to be a far better choice.

Don't get me wrong, I'm a ranger at heart and am truly looking forward to the day when the profession is more worthy of my SP investment.

Now I will admit that the higher level the creature the less time it takes to break the root. But I got Kaadu (lvl 54) to stay nice and rooted for 30 secs while I blasted it. Of course that's after stealing it's milk

Traps seem to be the major culprit. I've tried several of them, and P-Dart seems to be the only trap worth having, and it doesn't always work either....

I'll agree about Ranger not living up to it's potential, but for me, it's still fun to play.

Pre CU I used one trap..Glow Juice. Just throw one on a creature and it went down alot easier with my pistols. After CU, I'm noticeing that you have to find the right combo to work. Yes, P-Darts seem to be a good place to start but has anyone just found a nice lower level creature lair and tested different combos?

Yeah, I used to use glow juice traps all the time, but they don't seem to do anything now... but no, I haven't tested... I'll have to do some testing later tonight against various levels of critters.... unless I decide to go to Kash or Endor instead... still haven't been to Endor......
