Thread: What is so good about Ranger...

Anyone know post-cu how much of a bonus in harvesting a master ranger gets as, say, compared to a basic scout with harvest? That we got more meat per kill used to be a nice incentive to be ranger.

Well, at the moment, not much. Most of us who are rangers chose the professtion because of what a ranger does and is. Most of us seem to like to explore, and specialize in PvE. Like a lot of people's sigs say "Ranger is a lifestyle, not a profession"

In answer to the last questions, who knows? We all see so much potential in what ranger can be, and hoping will be someday.

If you have to ask, don't be a Ranger.

Good points -

Never having to ask a Ranger to areatrack for you.

Massive harvests when grouped, especially with another Master.

If it bleeds, I can kill it. And harvest it. And sell the harvest.

Crafting is easy, simple and no worries about stats.

We own artisans, they just don't know it yet. Feel free to not pay our prices, they look silly trying to harvest. And how many winged snotpants can they make at 400 units a shot without us?

Bad Points -

Tons of money and nothing to spend it on. (31 mil, and this after buying a second guild hall w/ furnishings)

Constant tells asking for help, and more money you can't spend.

Did every quest in the game, some twice. Damn that areatrack making the quests so easy.

Catch a clue yet?

I am seriously considering going back to a double mastery combat profession simply for the quests, and the flexibility of being a Ranger.

I've already taken back some Ranger. That's right, I said I wouldn't be back until the revamp, but darnit nothing else beats it in usefulness.

I'll probably end up going back to Ranger / Rifleman, steadily making my way through Jedi, but I would also like to keep Shipwright. Guess that'll be my Alt's calling. So, for now anyways, I'm back to Ranger.

Traps are awesome to have against the god-like creatures, camo is nice to have if you want to help out artisans trying to get to their harvesters without triple incaps, area track is an awesome ability, and we still have the hopes of a revamp some day . . . . .

The next lowest is 13 points below us: BH, Commando, and BE. I think the problem at this point is how would you go around reducing the points? Would you remove two lines from the pre-req. I am guessing they would probably be camping and trapping. How could you justify having ranger camping and trapping if you didnt have the pre-reqs? And if you could justify it then the fact is you would still be the ranger you are today except minus the most useful traps in the profession and forceed to only use huge resource hogging camps when you just want to pop one up to instant pull a bike or pet.

The other alternative would be to reduce the overall skill points. But if Ranger costs less than any other elite profession wouldnt it mean... less? You may say pshaw, but the fact is the ranger revamp is a ways off and who knows? We may be dealing with a different/new mix of devs at that point who do not know the history of the profession. Instead of asking the question you are asking: what makes ranger special to justify the skill point cost? They might be asking: why make rangers special if it doesn't have the skill point cost? Or if most of its skill points are considered novice - does that meanit is more a novice prof than other elite professions?

Basiucally we many of us want to stay where we are until we know where we are going. Or at least until we know the development team has had time to sit down and focus their planning on us and us alone. We don't want major changes made to our profession as a "quick fix" or an afterthought. We want the p[eople working in our profession to be just as excited and dedicated to it as we are. Or more.

Just got done hunting with a scout buddy of mine, he isn't a master scout yet but close. I was pulling in 700 units where as he was at about 250 units a kill.

There is another alternative.

Reduce the overall effectiveness of the Scout (or increase the Ranger abilities) so that the jump to Ranger is more of a quantum leap than a small step. The gapseems to have beenclosed even further with the CU.

Rather than reduce or nerf the effectiveness of scout, wouldn't it be better to enhance and improve the profession of ranger?

Several professions need scout, so why reduce the already minimal abilities of their prerequisites?
