Thread: Camo, make us invisible or this is stupider
Hehe, rumor has it thatcamo is coming before the next major publish.
And last official wordI heard from the Development team was "it's technically unfeasable to do radar and spatial invisibility because third party programs could intercept the packets and display that information to the player." That was at last year's Fan Fest, there has been no official statement to the contrary since then, but the new /cover would tend to debunk that idea.

I think it was one week after we got that reply that a post went up about a Ranger tracking a CSR in a city only to find the CSR was invisible...the CSr told him to keep quite, but Rangers know

I was one of a few Rangers that had tracked a CSR who was invisible. It was by accident, I was looking for a guildie and found "CSR Hooflungdung" (Ok, I forgot the name) was 5 meters to my north. I sent a PM, he/she was indeed there observing, what I didn't ask or care about.
I also forget who had the protracted discussion with me about invisibility and packet sniffing, but it appears they were correct to a point.

Well, if a jedi can get cloaked and run amock even if they cant attack then we can get it.

Unfeasable. Yeah. That explains the invisible Jedi with Force Cloak running around my hometown the other night.
I think they could do something like make us invisible at 35 meters and totally invisible when standing still even within 15 meters. I would especially love it if maybe when we are in a place full of trees like most of Dathomir we were virtually undetectable. And only another Ranger could break our vs players camo.
Perhaps they could have a Vs Players Camo, and a VsNPC camo, not really clear on that though. I'd frankly love to be able to just vanish when I wanted to. "Hey Mr. Ranger can I have 5 mill dollars? ooh Mr. Ranger I'm gonna follow you around!!. (Mr Ranger) Um no cya (puts camo on) OMG!! WHERE DID YOU GO!! (ranger whispers "Away From you" stands still and waits for newblet to run away in confusion trying to find him)
I agree camo could be abused but I would love camo that actualy worked vs people.
But what you're talking about isn't cammo, it's magick.
Cammo doesn't make you invisible, it just breaks your outline up and makes you less obvious to a passing look (DPM, ghillie suit). A trained observer (colour blind male, somebody trained in counter-insurgency) or someone with the right equipment (, troop equipped with IR / starlight scopes) is still going to have a chance of picking you up (especially if you're choosing to dance the Hokey Cokey and firing away with your big flashy bang stick).
Once you break cover your cammo might make it slightly more difficult for an attacker to see just where you are as you move carefully away (ninja jim jams, commando wooly pully and a bit of burnt cork) and if they're not visually tracking you you might have a better chance of taking cover again (slipping into the shadow, rolling behind a bush) but you're still not invisible. There's every chance that a passing patrol is going to say "Hey, I don't remember that shrub being there on the way out..."
As with everything inthe game I'm going to repeat the caution "Be careful what you wish for". IF we get some sort of cloaking from cammo (and as it's just a visual effect there's no real reason why not) expect it to come at a price. Either a movement restriction (lets see you run any distance in a full ghillie suit) or a restriction to abilities (only certain shots work, other shots advertise your position) or both.
Having said all that, wouldn't it be cool to have a fully invisible melee ranger kicking the living bejaysus out of a bunch of rancor, just to see the commandoes and BH go past saying "what the...."
