Thread: Mon Cal as a Ranger?

I started a Mon Calamari as an artisan. He's a Master Surveyor and Master Engineer... but boy-oh-boy is crafting a bore. I went on a few destroy missions once and was incapacitated many times on each one.

Can a Mon Cal make for a good field soldier (Scout, Ranger, Marksman, etc) if I migrate his stats? Or should I just start over with a Trandoshen or some other race?

The reason I ask is that the Mon Cal HA bars are all much shorter than most other players (but M is much longer).

Thanks

I'm not an expert on this, by any means, but I firmly believe that race has little impact on your chosen profession. Sure, the racial advantages might allow you to optimize your character stats over the long-haul but, for the most part, I don't think it makes a huge difference. Be a Calamari Ranger and be proud! After all, you will probably be unique in that right!

I see a lot of people who often worry about having made their character "wrong", or are worried about having to re-roll a new one. One of the beauties of this game is that any character can be anything they want ... and they can change their mind 100 times on their way to making a final decision.

You can migrate any/all stats to suit what you want, so your starting profession is pretty much just to decide what starting equipment and clothing you'll have. The only difference between species is, really, their bonuses here and there to certain skills, but even those are inconsequential enough that any species can happily pursue any profession.

So I say -- SURE! Make a Mon Cal Ranger!

Just think of the prestige ... Mon Cals are rare enough, and so are Rangers. The combo of the two would be pretty darn unique, and that's always good in my books.

I've pulled two LARGE changes via stat migration so far. One going from Artisan to Musician and the other from Musician to Marksman/Scout. Whilerace does confer some small specific bonuses, you won't feel any ill effects going ranger with your Mon Cal. Just slide your HAM around and have at it! A full migration could take several days, but that is nothing in long run. The stat migration is one of the best character features in the game IMO.

I've been working on largely the same thing. I started as a wookiee artisan headed for Weaponsmith, and DE. Migrated my stats to be equal to a mon cal, and got 2 business boxes away from master artisan.
Tacyc sat down one night and realized he missed the natural world, and disappeared into the wilderness, and is on his way to being a ranger. (50k crafting to make my 2 novices was just way too scary) I'm migrating stats to help for that, and have noticed no bad effects, other than creating a character with a career crisis. Go for it, and don't ever listen to anyone that puts you down for not following some perfect character formula.

I myself am a Mon Cal ranger.... also a pistoleer and a Teras Kasi artist... yes, Mon Cals are rare enough, but combat oriented ones... lets just say that I might be the only combat oriented Mon Cal on my server,(Sunrunner), and I'm most certainly the only Mon Cal you'll see throwing a punch at anyone. It's fun being unique

Well just a FYI, the only skill we get that drains any HAM really is our trap throwing. This comes all from the action pool. Imho Quickness and Stamina are the most important to max for this specifically.
