Thread: I dropped MBH for Ranger to do the FS grind... good/bad idea?

With the nerfing of combat XP conversion, I figured that trying to open my last 2.5 trees with straight combat would be pretty mind numbingly boring and extremely time consuming (I figure with the new 1:30 combat conversion it'd take me 34 caps on rifles, carbines, and pistols (all of them at once) to get 2.5 trees). So, I looked at the conversion for scout XP and trapping XP, and it's a lot more managable. 1:8 I believe for scout XP and 1:5 for trapping. I can cap scout XP in the same time I can cap a gun's XP, so really, it seemed like a no brainer...

So, I ditched MBH (and am now a lowly level 63 till I get higher in ranger....) and am grinding out Ranger. Was this a good idea, or should I have kept MBH? I still have Master Rifles.

I'd probably stop at 0040 ranger. You'll still cap at 1.2 mil scouting exp, and then you won't be using up the other exp on trees that aren't really going to help you unless you plan on staying with the profession for a long time. And Trapping exp used to be like 20:1, it changed? I just turned it in because I had it, the rate was so rediculously out of whack that I never tried for it. And if you throw traps you're slowing down your rate of fire, although you can stack traps on the same creature and get more exp for it now. I say keep BH rather than look for trapping exp, you'll get plenty of conversion for scout.

Ahh, ok. Good to know. I wasn't sure about the trapping conversion rate... that's pretty horrible.

OK, I'll just get a tree in Ranger then and get some BH back. I already ditched a bunch of BH but itshouldn't take long to get it back.

Thanks for the advice!

Meh, I didn't drop all of it, and I still need to dropa lotof it to get the skill points for master scout and 0040 ranger. It'll take 30 minutes to get back the skills in a good hunting group, I'm not concerned.

Thanks again, though.

if you want to trap get a MCM friend to tank while you trap. MY MCM did this th other night for a friend and got her 30K xp per creature. you could probably grind the entire box on on one mob if you had the traps and the patience, but we got bored and i killed the mobs. Look at the message "Finishing Trapping" for the gorey details.

Hope your last 2.5 trees are in FS senses, because that's the only thing scout-derived xp converts to. I think.

I did use my ranger/scout fs xp to get the luck branch, but I still have over a million senses xp and no hope of ever unlocking another senses branch. I just convert it when it caps so I can still get the system message that tells me when I've had a successful camo/maskscent check.

Trapping is 1:25 so it's practically useless for FS xp.

I picked up persuasion also with my senses exp, I'm sure it saved me from at least one imperial scan, if not even 3 since I got it.

I might go for Persuasion since at the rate I gain xp, it'll be another year for me to finish my last two lines. Mind you I had three free unlocks from lucky profession picks (5 out of 8 that I *wanted* to do) early in my existance, and I still only have three boxes in my fourth line.

But Senses xp is definately easy to get. Between CH and Scout, I have 2.9 million Senses xp in the same time period as those three boxes I've gotten.

I will have to say bad. Sorry. MBH is quite possibly the best profession for grinding FS xp because you can max 4 different types of xp - pistols, carbines, rifles, and combat before you have to go convert. All of these types can be used in two different trees - combat prowess and reflexes. The Ranger types of xp only go into one tree - Senses. And you need medic, master medic, and artisan to unlock the senses lines, meaning that you will have to (for a short time at least) spend skill points in something other than Ranger. And Ranger does not leave many skill points to spare.

But if you are looking to have fun I say go Ranger. I am certainly enjoying it. Just don't expect to grind it out quickly lol.
