Hello all, and it is an honour to make my way back to these parts after a long walk in the forests,

I was last this way practically a year ago, and I believe a lot has changed since I last unpacked my camp.

Back then, I was a Master Ranger, a Master Rifleman and Novice Medic+bits extra. I believe since the upgrade there have been changes to the profession build which will mean I will have to respec.

I absolutely refuse to give up Master Ranger, so I am looking for advice (whilst I am downloading this 4 hour patch!), as to what build I can respec to.

I used to harvest a lot, and want to carry on doing so. I tinkered with the idea of Squad Leader and Ranger, I've thought about Ranger with Bio Engineer, and Creature Handling has come to mind too. However, at the end of the day, I did enjoy using Rifles so I "think" I'd like to retain that.

Any advice on what template I can have once I am back in, will be much appreciated.

How are we at harvesting now? I remember, was it JB Mat, who was the master of fighting unbuffed? I must admit, I occassionally fought unbuffed (though naturally, I was a Vasarian Brandy addict of course!) but in the main, with the cost of a buff compared to the plentitude of monkeys out there, I just picked up a buff anyway. I hear now buffs have been rebalanced (I won't say nerf, as I don't believe they were balanced the way they were). I also hear there is some "con" system now, a la Everquest *sighs*.

Well really, I don't care less. All I am interested in is jumping off a shuttle and running into the wilds on foot, throwing up a maskscent and running about for hours. Killing things is optional.

Is there anything I should know since I last played (around September/October 2004)? Is the market for Rangers who harvest as robust as ever? I don't have any interest in selling my services as a tracker (on the rare occassions I did that it tended to be free and for acquaintances only), so harvesting would be how I put bread and water on the table (or more likely, wafers and brandy).

Anyhow, it is with some pride, I am once again here in the home of my fellow Rangers. I started the game as a Ranger, I deactivated still as a Ranger, and I intend never to drop my mastership of this noble lifestyle.

All I need is a flask of brandy, a true rifle, and a pouch of camouflage, and I'll be back into the thick of things. I'll save a chair for you by the campfire.

WB Cam I remember you.

Since you are returning you might be eligible for the 2 week respec period so you can try out different professions before deciding what you want to do. Rifles are still very strong and Rangers now harvest alot.. esp if grouped with other rangers. Sadly most traps are still broke and the state of the profession hasnt changed alot since you left.

I would try out Master Ranger/Maste Rifleman first. That will leave you at level 80 and you can then try out what combat profession to go with it. Creature Handler just got a revamp of sorts and whether or not they are great right now is still under debate. I think once all the bugs are fleshed out CH will be a nice profession to play.

New home of SWG Rangers!

"Ranger isnt a profession. Its a lifestyle for sure. But upon the desert plains of Tattooine that wandering hermit you see was once a proud Ranger. It may not be a profession anymore but the lifestyle can never be lost, changed or deleted. "

Welcome back.

Just so you know, food is still quite useful and you will probably also want to pick up some non Medic stims. The most useful food combos have changed, though (although I don't really know what they are right now as I usually don't bother with food). I hope you enjoy the new system (even if it's not perfect).

Thank you for the welcome.

It looks like I'm going:

Master Ranger

Master Rifles

4 spare points in the Force Senstitive Tree that is related to Scout Skills

I can cope without the old doctor buffs. I'll check out the new foods and get myself out into the wilderness. I am SO looking forward to pulling out a large camp and chilling a while, chatting to passers by. Or maybe coming across a Bio Engineer and helping him or her get that sample they are after. If I'm very lucky I'll get the "Oooh a Master Ranger!" comment again.

God forbid the day Ranger becomes popular. Long may the gaze of the developers look elsewhere. Being a ranger was never about game mechanics. It was always about imagination, and code can't mimic that.
