Some creatures are not listed a creatures but are consitered to be NPC's so you can't trap em. Huurtons and Hurrton Pups are among them.

I'm just wondering if this is every creature of a single species, or only creatures found in a certain zone. I have had a Gualama mission clone itself right next to the first mission wp when it moved about 30 meters over. One lair had the unharvestable / untrappable creatures, and the other had the same CL as the others, but was trappable and harvestable.
I have encountered this on all planets.

I had a similar issue about a week ago, creatures I couldn't harvest (I don't remember if I was bothering with traps at the time).

I figure it's random.
It's happened to me, and as far as I can remember they were all mission critters.
Any idea if you guys experienced this on only missions, or also on random mobs?

Ive never actually experienced this and by the sounds of things it is really hard to nail down what exactly causes this.

Yes, it is on wild and mission spawns.
But mostly mission spawns.

It's random.
It did seem to be related to server boundaries, but you can run into it in dungeons, out and about, basically anywhere.
It 'feels' like it's more mission spawns, but if you do more missions than wild lairs you'll experience it more with them...
It sometimes happens at server reset time. Sometimes it happens just before the server comes down.
It happens with different traps...
I've never yet had it happen the other way round thou. Yes. I do sometimes try pinging a trap of an NPC (by mistake, honest guv)
POSSIBLY the best thing to do for the time being is to /bug it ingame, give as full info about where it happened, what happened, what critter type, trap type, etc. and rebug it whenever it happens again.
If they've got enough data the might just be able to pin down what's causing it. No data? They'll go for a short-route-to-solution type fix.
If folks are going to cc the info tothe forum, it'd be useful if it stayed in one thread too

I'm so glad I stopped to read this thread before logging into the game. Yes, there is a serious problem with harvesting and trapping ability phasing in and out for no apparent reason. I know this because from Aug 1 through the 8 I was an insane grinder and mastered scout, ranger, and rifleman. I was throwing holy fits because during the middle of bol or piket hunts, I'd suddenly lose the ability to trap or harvest. I'd get the 'you must use this trap on a creature' message and when i tried to harvest, my harvest macro would stop working and I'd try to pull up the harvest option on the radial menu to find that the option didn't show up.
I was FREAKING out trying to figure out why, for what reason, and how this kept happening to me. I had just decided I was having lag or some other type of problem. It seemed to reset sometimes if a random voritor came into our hunting site. I'd be able to trap and harvest the voritor. But then when I tried to harvest the bols again, it didn't work. When we'd proceed to a new lair, the problem usually stopped and everythign would go back to normal. Note.. I said usually...
I tried reconnecting with no success. I'm not sure what's going on, but I'll tell you what, when you're grinding that last trapping box and it's 4AM and you really should have goneto bed hours ago... the LAST thing you wanna see is that trapping message lol. My poor group's ears were burning with all my hollering :S
I'd love if we could all start trying to figure this out because now I'm a master ranger and I'm starting to go out and collect hides to help the AS's. I'll keep an eye on this thread and I'll try to add info to it as well.
