Thread: Ranger/Scout XP and the Village

Ok, I have been "glowy" since "glowy" started and have not yet unlocked. Personal reasons.

However, this is to inform all the question askers that Ranger/Scout XP only applies to the Senses area in the village. Luck, Persuasion, Surveying and Medical. Yes, that is correct, stuff that has absolutely no connection with Scout or Ranger. Nothing combat like in this area.

Now, I went and unlocked Luck, more as a joke than anything else, but it was also at the time possible to drop Novice Medic, gain Novice Artisan, and using /maskscent survey for the required concentrations on Dathomir without getting my azz handed to me by creatures. I did the entire quest without leaving Dath (except for a brief foray to Corellia as I knew solar energy was high there) in about 40 minutes, never got aggroed, and was a happy camper.

As Luck was the only skill I could unlock, I maxed it out quick. Scout xp is still at 8-1 and as a Master Ranger I max out well over 1 million xp. Trapping XP is 25-1 and no clue where it maxes, even I don't throw that many traps. Survival used to be 5-1, but that xp went away.

If anyone takes up Ranger to "finish up" the village they are in for a rude surprise. Forewarned is forarmed.

JB

oh yeah, anyone got a use for 1.9 million xp in the senses area that I can't freaking use?

I feel your pain. I wasn't able to bank enough xp before the CU went live and believe me I hunted some animals to extinction hehe. The last 2 trees of luck was all I had left and I finally finished 2 days after the CU went live. I feel I'll be dropping it soon in place of filling up ranged defense. Let me tell ya, I haven't been "lucky" looting anything of extreme value. I hate to say it but it seems the dual combat profession template is the winner when it comes to getting through the village in a reasonable yet enjoyable amount of time. Too bad we can't sell our scouting xp and make money off of that too eh?

It'll be ok man.

Well, if I'd wanted jedi "fast" I'd never have gone Ranger.

If I wanted Jedi at ALL, I wouldn't still be a Ranger.

Apparently we're the new FOTM for village grinding. Bad news for us 'cause I'm guessing our conversion rate will go down soon. But hey, maybe if they do that, they'll make it work for combat mods, like it should.

all I know is I'm pcking up luck and I already have more than enough XP to get all the branches.

This is horrible! I return to find my new title on the forum is "Jedi". What's up with that? If they wanted to confer that I'm rare and learned, they'd make my title RANGER. and then make it camo colored.

Yep - this looks like the writing on the wall. We've had how many posts about ranger for fs xp in how many days?

The thing is, JB, that the people who switch to profs that have the most favorable exchange rate don't care anything about the relative usefulness of the branches they get - they are just in it for the exchange rate, to get the boxes as fast a possible....

I suppose that's why this seems so useful to them ... it's XP on top of what they earn by killing the creature. I did Persuasion myself, but that's because I thought it actually looked a bit useful.

If people pick up boxes in FS because they are quick and easy, then the joke is really on them.

If I understand it, that's 24 SP you don't get back. You keep those modifiers. Yeah - surveying is really important for a Jedi. (Yo, Master Windu, where can I find some poly for traps?)

I have the survival tree open. No way in hell am I filling it. I also have vehicle whatsis open, nope to that too. I can do5 trees in mainly combat modifiers and be a happy boy... and drag luck around with me.

While on that subject - I think Luck does work. I tend to get more money off of NPCs than do my hunting buds, so they "let" me loot. While not an absolute test, I was getting 100+ while most of the others were getting only 50+. Maybe it was Luck, maybe it was luck of the draw.

yanno JB, I actually think the survival line could be usefull. + 5 to terrain negotiation, which means if you get +25 in CA's/AA's, you'll get + 30, which is equal (or close to) FR1. You also get the ability to place basic camps to heal wounds, which is great if you don't have healer. Plus, if you're slowly dropping scout./ranger along the way, you get +5 to harvesting, which isn't much, but it's better than a slap to the face.

I for one am picking up that line. i think I also can use l-darts with the +5 to trapping.

I to have been thinking about geting survival as my last box. I for one am gonna miss my camps, even if they don't do much. Just factory out 1000 basic camp kits and I will be set for life. The thing is I wanna keep Ranger as long as I can, even with Jedi, so I will have to drop TKM, which will severly hamper my combat skills....such delemia's....I 'NEED' combat skills as a Ranger, and my traps to work on NPC/PC's.

dang guys

I hate being the FOTM. That explanes the Kids I keep getting tells from asking about things that a novice ranger (0000)should already know, such as"When doI get the Dantooine Cammo kit?" or "why cant i make the HTFB?".

/sigh

oh well, what can you do. they'll all drop it once they see that it wontmake them"uber"and you have to do things like think, and use tactics in order to be good at it.

those Qs sounded more like people that are interested in the proffesion, grinders dont care about those things, they just want to reach the "cap" limit for scout XP fast.

while that might be true, I've also seen a LOT of those types of questions in the past 1-2 months... and the worst ones are the master rangers who are asking how to get bait, or how to get traps or camo... aargh.
