Thread: Feedback on new character template?
I'm planning on redoing my character, here's my current setup:
Ranger 0240
Novice Medic
CH 1100
BH 0044
Now with those stats i've got the versatility of the BH and some really nice weaponry, like the LLC, but, i'm still missing something, and that's lastability.. I can easily kill most of the small critters, but any larger scale hunting I can't do (i'm mainly in this to harvest a LOT of meat, that's from large creatures).
I was just toying around with http://swgcb.yogn.net/swg-cb.php and came up with this idea, what's your toughts:
Master Ranger, well hell.. i mean, _master_ ranger would be nice ![]()
Novice Medic to use the meds
CH 4400 to get 1 really big pet, as much as i hate the use of pets in SW as tanks, this is what i gotta do.
Rifleman 4003 for the use of T21 and max accuracy w/o master and all but one box of speed.
Wow.. boards are moving fast today.
Giving up Bounty Hunter for Master Ranger? I must say, I'm a little shocked ![]()
Your template looks very feasible. I'm a pistoleer, so I can't comment on rifle. The CH/Ranger mix is quite powerful, though. With taming and training 3, you can call a graul. You might want to think about getting Empathy 1, trick is extremely useful, and gives you the ability to name your pet.
I ended up giving up CH, and quite a bit of my solo power -- I must tend towards enjoying incap
I'm contemplating Squad Leader now, so I must really enjoy being broken too.
Elysa Kamekazi, Master Ranger/Pistoleer/Entertainer.
Alila,
First of all your sig is a trip. I copied it to email to a few friends![]()
Anyway, I'm wondering if novice medic is worth the 15 points. I would go CH 3/3/0/0 and give up novice medic. After all, with a higher level pet the idea is to not take damage at all.
As for the trick command, You can have another CH train it. The group command is important also because as of today missions are taking grouped pets into account.
With some pet stims I think your soloability would be much higher.

Thanks, i found the text i put in the sig intriguing to say the least.. i put together a little perl script to convert any text document into cmabrigde spaek ![]()
Taming 3, Training 3 eh? that would make it a bit easier to put together enough combat skills, yes, im going to drop bounty hunter since it requires master marksman and i really dont feel im getting that much in return, yes, the Krayt LLC i had made is sweet and it's nice to hit for 1k consistently but the miss-rate on an LLC is hideous, with LLC 1 I still miss more than half my hits unless i always move to 35m (not possible), kneel and let rip.
So I'm thinking I'll go with a good T21 and enough rifleman skills to raise the accuracy and speed high enough to be really usable (marksman accuracy bonuses dont count when using LLC since it's a heavy weapon.. shame really)
Another option would be going pistoleer with a good DX2, i'd lose Armor Pierce there tho as DX2 is AP1 and T21 is AP3.. with the coming changes to weapons speeds, this might not be a bad thing tho..
Then again.. carbineer? =)
**edit**, so many options ![]()
Someone gimme a hand here so i dont have to try them all out myself
I already regrinded BE on my main merchant character, I dont wanna regrind this one too many times in combat skills ![]()
Oh, yes.. my main merchant is Failed, a fairly known master chemist/BE in training so i'm basically quite well off in the stim/pet stim department ![]()
Medic is definately worth it, I am maxed in Pharm just to use Stim Cs and modified Ds, and am waiting for a Resusitation kit I can use.
Rifle, great for distance, sux for short range. Vrelt can eat your butt while you are waiting on the T21 to recycle, and there is the close range negative. I went with pistols and am 1-2-4-3 in pistoleer, and doing some damage. No one shot kills on bagerasets like my partner with the T21, but my mind bar doesn't drop as bad as hers either, and I can take one down in 3 shots.
CH - I have a cowardly gurreck and a wrix and absolutely no CH abilities. Grauls are nice, but there is always a CH around to get into a group i fya need one. CHs are a dime a dozen. I spent these pts on medic in first aid and pharm, and some in pistoleer.
Just my thoughts
JB
Master Ranger
im going with the pets of my own because i can usually not play for hours, usually i get interrupted several times during play so groups are nice but not something i can count on.
also, 2 people in the group means i get only half the harvests i would get solo
Yeah Alila, I dig your sig too.
Where did you find that particular article? I've search all over the Cambridge site and cannot find reference to it anywhere.
ditch the pets, ditch marksman, become one with the ways of teras kasi ![]()
tk is in my opinion the best compliment to ranger out of all combat classes. i've been a sharpshooting and a gunfighting (but not a caribeening) ranger. tk is also the strongest out of the melee classes. as a tkm, you will be able to meditate your bleeding, poisons, diseases, and all wounds away. You will be able to tank kimogilas (you read right). You will be able to kill large groups of npc's without breaking a sweat.
also, most pve encounters you will come across are going to be melee encounters. tkm has nearly +50 (ican't remember the exact number right now, sorry) unarmed toughness, a skill mod where each point is equivalent to a 1% reduction in melee damage. so, that dune boar that hits for 490-500 will be hitting you for 245-250. that's not even including intimidation or armor.
and you'll have 18 skill points left, so you can still be novice medic or novice entertainer, or have some ch.
of course, if you want to pvp, you are going to be hard pressed, what with ultra short range and lag and all that jazz.
from a roleplay standpoint, there's alot of possibility. you can be a naturalist who dislikes 'modern' technology and how it harms the environment, you can be a monk who lives out in the boonies, and that's just a couple examples.
The key to rifleman is tactics. You have to get the most out of every shot and always, ALWAYS have an escape route. You can bring down some really big stuff, but it is far tooeasy to die when things go wrong (I have a world record 11-miss event on a T21, so don't look for our "accuracy" to save you, the pistoleers have that
. We rifleman keep trying to have the devs look at this...).
Another key is to have a melee on the side. I know MANY rifleman/TKA or rifleman/2-handed (I'm the latter). You MUST toss that weapon at 15m unless your pet has it's attention (Thank GOD they gave us a pet. I KNOW half of the rifleman will dump for pistol if they EVER take those away). All my HAM areat 850 and effectively reduces to 340 with the 250% damage factor while holding a rifle.
My usual hunting method is generally: set pet on guard, open up with the rifle, if the critter is not drawn off by the pet switch to sword (I have macros for this) and if the battle is going to be a while try to pull off and have the pet tank for a bit and resume with the rifle. Use stim, ect on pet and go to the next critter.
I hope to have the AoE on Rifle soon, so that I have that at range AND melee (only melee atm) to aid with the social ones. I still can't do the big social ones w/o pulling them apart from each other. I really wish we had an AoE trap that roots all in the area. Perhaps the proposed lure will go a long way to helping with this, I could really use that on those d&mn Giant Carrion Spats...
hmm.. _that_ innaccurate, even at master sniping? holy cow..
anyone have any more insights of using TKA for ranger? isn't it a bit tough to "pull" a critter away from it's pack?
Roflmao - the melee rangers are attempting to convert someone again.
Go melee, it's fun to have to stand in a creatures face as he whomps on your head while you use flung poo...opps, TK on him. Why stand back, out of harm's way, that would deprive the medics of needed XP... you will learn to love the clone center, as you willbe therea lot. Fencers and Pikers know the feeling too... the weapons guys stand back and take no damage, the melee fools are taking it all. Ok, maybe the xp for a pistol is not that of a pike...wow, I kill more, as I spend less time in camps, the medcenter and the cloner.
Want to make a friend a Master in the healing field... be a Melee Ranger

I would take a look over a test and the assorted melee forums... some significant upgrades are in the works. I certainly believe that TK is becoming a very attractive option to a number people.
As each day passes, I stare at my blaster and wonder... Is it broken?
