Thread: Debate on the Top 5 itself

Alrighty then...

During the Top 5 Debate thread, Seiryuu go me thinking on the structure of the Top 5 itself.

Since the inception of the Correspondent Forum, the definition of the report has sort of "diverged" in the minds of many of the Correspondents.

Many of them report the entire Issue list (similiar to our State of the Profession), while others post individual issues as they arise (producing rather large threads of posts).

My intention with the Top 5 is to try to focus the developers on what we consider to be the top priorities from the design perspective.

By the sounds of it, perhaps we should expand the concept of the Report to include implementation errors as well.

So...

How abouta

  • Top 5 Design Issues

And

  • Top 5 Implementation Errors

I could combine them together to be a Top 10 Report...

NRaas, what exactly do you mean Implementation Errors? I'm thinking you are refering to things that got added or changed, but didn't come out right or are having problems. Is this what you mean?

If so, I think that's not a bad idea. Say for example, when they added the /conceal and camo kits, there were some problems and issues with it. Now would this section be for errors/bugs, or also, things that got implemented that we didn't think really work for us, and we just want changed, even though they are working as designed?

Top 5 Design Issues as In bugs, current Skills not working.
example, melee creature to hit mod's, conceal etc.

Top 5 Implementation Errors , as in Goodies and suggestions to improve the class.
New Camps, Traps etc.

If That is what my lame brain is understanding then Yes, Your Idea Is perfect.

I love this idea, NRaas what would the Ranger profession do without you. Great idea.

Sounds like a good idea to me! Definitely asuitable way to approach it. We need Ranger to be fleshed out a little more, but also need some bugs fixed, and this hits both marks.

So when can we start listing are two top 5's?

Glaza-X, Actuallythose are slightly reversed, but we appear to be on the same wavelength though.

"So when can we start listing are two top 5's?" (sic)

Well, most of you have been listing your top issues in the Top 5 Debate thread...

  • Most of the issues posted there are a mix of both Design and Implementation issues, and I have been tallying them as such.

  • If you haven't yet posted on that thread yet, I would suggest doing so...

I THINK that may be a good idea...however, will that draw attention away from other issues? Will one list cause something to be overlooked on the other? i.e. Will a mention of conceal breaking too much cause a request for trap info to be overlooked? I assume that the more issues we put out there, the more we will have worked on, however, we don't want to over do it either. I am basically thinking out loud here. But, as for an unsolicited vote, put me down for a yea...

"however, will that draw attention away from other issues? Will one list cause something to be overlooked on the other?"

The two lists will have separate intents...

One will list the top concerns about what is lacking in the profession, or things about the current design that we don't particularly approve.

  • Ex: Not enough traps, combat and conceal, disbanding camps, etc.

The other will list problems with the implementation of the vision.

  • Ex: Aggro repeling not working properly, Faction NPCs seeing through conceal, no XP from camo crafting, etc.

I suspect GreenMarine will handle the design issues, and relegate the implementation errors to the programmers responsible for that area.

Design:

1) I am a Master Ranger. The name implores speed, swiftness, mobility, pick your syn*. Yet I have no straight away run bonus, a non scout is has fast has me in a straight run. Some sort of running bonus would be good.

2) How about that hunting cabin?

*can't really think of any more currently, I'd like to see some thingstoo*

Implementation:

1)Combat Disbanding Camps

2)Battle Fatigue in camps

3)How about that thing where you toss two traps after one another, and you never get a pass/fail message for the second thrown trap.

4) Foraging.....can we get the unique foraging items?

5)A long time ago we were promised a couple of upgrades. We've got camo kits....meh.....tracking....okay. How about That hunting blind and the new traps that were supposed to come.

"1)Combat Disbanding Camps"

Since the Camps were actually designed to disband on combat, that process is actually working...

Whether they should be changed would be a design request.

"2)Battle Fatigue in camps"

Well since the camps were never designed to do that, this would be a new request and would fall under Design.

"How about That hunting blind and the new traps that were supposed to come."

These would also be Design... Since they aren't even implemented yet, I doubt we could find any bugs with them, yet.

----

Either way, I'll tally your choices up with the rest.
