Thread: Ranger is the goal.. but what weapons are the best to compliment?
I have Novice Pistoleer and Novice Rifleman and trying to decide if either profession is right or if I should investigate Carbineer. The other option is to drop all weaps for Master CH, but I won't even discuss that yet as the CH tweaks that are coming out are going to make massive changes.
Anyway...strictly from a role-playing standpoint, you would think that Rifleman would be the best complement to a Ranger.. but when you compare the special abilities given to a Rifleman to those of Pistoleer (and to a lesser extent Carbineer) they don't seem to be designed for hunting, but more for fighting NPC's. Maybe I don't know enough about them all, but I have seen Stopping Shot and Pistol-Whip in action and I just don't see how the stuff under Rifleman can come close.
I would think that Riflemen should be able to shoot from like 128m out, maybe with a scope or something. And why the heck can't yous smack stuff up close with your rifle-butt?
Anyway.. somebody educate me.. Why should I compliment my Ranger abilities with Rifleman as opposed to Pistoleer or Carbineer?

IMHO, Carbine sucks, as it is still all messed up, with no discernible benefits other than the fact you can kill yourself faster by spamming specials than any other profession.
Rifles are good, and with the rumor (always a rumor til it goes live) of conceal and maskscent not breaking in combat, conceal shot will be a killer.
Pistols are also good, as most beasts close to close range to munch on ya. There seems to be a pistol for every beasts resistance too.
However, any weapon, to include no weapons (TK) and the melee weapons (Pike especially) seem to work for Rangers. Whatever you want to use and what gets the job done for you, use it.

btw, I am 2-3-4-3 in pistoleer, soon to be 2-4-4-4 and having a blast.
I have been pretty satisfied wiht the LLC as a primary weapon for my ranger.....
I took ranger to master
then LLC to box 4 very powerful i can get 5k hits pretty regular
add in a Non-CH pet (currently Cowardly gurreck)
and with the + to hit creatures I can roll a lair pretty fast....
but the down fall is ya give up a *%$&load of points to get the LLC line
just my 2 creds.

I'm a Master Pistoleer and a 4-3.75-4-4 Ranger, and hope to be a Master / Master when I get around to finishing of my camping. But anyway I have found that wielding a pistol is very effective. Fan shot has may uses, and the stacking bleeds are great. Using traps and kiting, there is little you can't take out. I've spent the last few days soloing on Yavin and Endor and it's been veryprofiaible. The ability to spam specials and the limited down time make for more kills and better resource gatheringefficiency. Far from a PVP god you can still hold your own and can take care of any thug types you come upon out in the wilds, Even in a group I find that I'm out damaging most of the rest of the people I'm with. Keep some of the marksman combat skills and your all set. PMD is nice too with the knockdown, great for sticking a trap or for following up with a stopping shot - these always seem to hit for extra highdamage.
If your game is going to be gathering meat bone and hide your gonna love fan shot. You can kill a group 4-5 light blue to bluemobs with 3-4 shots.Rather than 3 or 4 shots per mob. I have good guns( 1.4 330 fwg5 when powered up) But hardly god like. Aslo as mentioned in the last post you have a great selection of weapon types. Dx2 FWG5 and my scout blaster cover 90% of what you see and I carrykinetic and stun pistols as well.
Over all -tactical options are very flexible, special costs low, and your speed and accuracy are unrivaled vs creatures.....not the only way to do it, but one to think hard about not trying.
haha try spamming specials if you're a zabrak who started at scout *shudder*... ihave probablyset the world record for killing myself fastest with a carbine....
anyway, back on topic.. i am also a BH dabbler, i find LLC to be really effective in conjunction with bounty carbine skills. in pvp you work their position and then blast electricity up their butt and its usuallya clean kill. although i hear pistoller is really good too.
just my thoughts
CH- to help tank high level creatures
Pistoleer-get a GOOD FWG5 and get a good slice with a good powerup
between Ranger, Pistoleer, and CH, i have a pretty good to hit ratio, can put up a mauler to tank the bigger creatures for me, and can then just start spamming specials like there's no tomorrow. Doing this, I can solo most medium to large creatures you will find.
