All that was said is that it has been removed as a reward. Short and to the point.
Well I'm very happy about this decision, although the wording here is a bit confusing Calc. You said "been removed as a reward". Now does that mean it's going to be implemented at another time in the future as a "non-reward"? LOL. Maybe I'm being paranoid, but there ya go. Just want to make certain this thing won't come back and rear it's ugly head in the future.
For now, I am happy again.
Naw.
From what I recall - this thingie was a beta item. They probably just grabbed it and threw it in there as a cool loot item to have.
Trust me - if anything even similiar to this comes close to the game, Calc and I will throw the worlds largest hissy fit.

One good thing that comes of this, (forgive me if this has been previously confirmed) that is the theory that the "skinny" "medium" "fat and healthy" samples are based on region, not just randomly assigned to each lair spawn, acutally holds water.

The theory fitted everyones observations so it was accepted to be true by most of us. With the rise and fall of the survey device we now have official confirmation.

i actually found that out running missions on Dath. I was taking missions in one direction, kept getting "skinny" harvests...went in the opposite direction...BAM! fat and healthies accross the board.
