Thread: State of the Profession (Dec. 5)
In line with the Creature fighting bonuses, how about a special bonus to-hit creatures overa certain level or size? Give the Ranger the specialized ability to attack larger creatures like the Commandos role in attacking structures. Maybe instead of a + whatever bonus, it could be a special attack that only works on creatures at or above a certain level? something like a /bringdown command that acts like a knockdown for a longer set time. Basically the good old-fashioned hamstring effect.
Combine this ability with /track and we can start running safaris for other players to make money.
Here, I'll sum it up for ya.
Wayfairing- useless. Mounts and vehicles replace the need for this branch. Conceal has no purpose.
Frontiering- useless. Thanks for the nerf. We rangers truly enjoy that. (don't need camps to call anything, camps don't repel agressive mobs)
Tracking- Still works somewhat. Group harvest is brutal, tracking works alright if you are retracing your steps
Trapping- useless. Different trap names, same types of effects.
Runesabre,
The State of the Profession is not completely current at this time. You should check NRaas' proposal, it is in the "The Outdoorsman..." thread stickied above. You should also read the threads: "Modular Camp V4...", The Conceal Question V2..." and even "Trapping...". We all have submitted our ideas and NRaas has brilliantly placed those in the proposal.

I'd be laughing if this weren't so close to being true......

The first part, you never needed a ranger camp anyhow, basic camp works for that. At one point, the highest level camp DID repel mobs. But, that was ages ago.
So, basicaly, nothing above a basic camp is useful. Even that is just a means to get a mount out. Not a very class defining thing in my opinion. I'm glad that's going away. Now perhaps they can focus on making camps actually useful, instead of the place where pokemasters can call their pets at.
Runesabre,
You can find the most up-to-date, general-purpose State of the Profession here:
As others have mentioned, you can find our Profession's more recent Outdoorsman Proposal here:
- Currently, I would put more weight into the Outdoorsman Proposal than the State of the Profession page when considering wish list items.
To quote NRaas, our correspondent, "Please Refresh onceyou openthe HTMLpage to ensure you have the most recent version" of both of these pages.
Thanks for taking the time to look into our profession.
actually rune sabre I'm not sure it matters what state of the profession list you read .. The major problems that players constantly try to bring to the attentions of the developers, from all classes really... havn't changed a whole lot since day one.
This is about right for nearly every single class.
worse than this however ... is the fact that your actually asking where it is..
This information has (as far as I can remeber at the very least, please correct me if I'm wrong) ALWAYS been in our/your representative, Nrass's signature.
Better than that it's stickied at the top of the forum. Ok fair point... you may not be totally familiar with all the forums and up to date with the current hot topics... but, surely isn't this the sort of question that you should be asking NRass ?
you've already had a years worth of ideas for every single profession ever since the year dot.. what do you expect people to do .. regurgitate the last whole years posts into 1 brand new single page post just for you?
it's already been done... speak with your comunity representatives..
don't talk to the great unwashed (ie:us) talk to our mouth piece, thats what you hired him for!
"The major problems that players constantly try to bring to the attentions of the developers, from all classes really... havn't changed a whole lot since day one."
That would be my answer as well. The Dec 5 SotP is just as up to date as any one I would make now, as nothing has seriously changed in our profession.
If the developers do decide to go with the wilderness-centric approach desribed in the Outdoorsman proposal, then I will consider updating the SotP.
Of course, if they decide to stick with their creature-centric approach, I guess I will need to update the SotP as well. ![]()
