I apologize, I thought I had been clear on the subject.

There is no quality assigned to a camo kit... The experimentation only defines the number of charges for the kit.

An unexperimented kithas the same chance of success as a fully experimented kit (as long as the Ranger applying both has the same camoflauge skill level).

Therefore there is no need to have a rating displayed on the /examine window.

But that's my point. Not every ranger making a particular camo kit has the same skill. It might not matter for a dathomirian kit since only a master ranger can make them, but a Dantooinian camo kit can be made by Rangers of varying skill with no way to tell how good the product is.

Plus I thought I read the update notes suggesting that we would be able to experiment for effectiveness. C'est la vie.

"but a Dantooinian camo kit can be made by Rangers of varying skill with no way to tell how good the product is."

I believe we are miscommunicating here...

All Dantooinian camo kits have the same effectiveness no matter who makes the kit (and no matter how much experimentation they perform).

Only the camo skill of the user of the kit determines the effectiveness.

Therefore there is no need to display an effectiveness as it does not matter who made the kit... Only who applies it.

I am sorry. I thought this game was aboutcommradery and commerce? By taking away the Flora components, you are just making it easier for Rangers to make cammo kits. This is by far the stupidist thing I have ever heard of so far. All of you whiney idiot rangers who have no common sense to simply ASK someone to find you a resource waypoint and then plop down a harvester are making this profession a joke. Rangers are an Elite! They SHOULD have to work for their skills as well as the devices that are usedto enhance thoseskills. Look at Bio-Engineers! They will still have to ASK people to gather them Fish, Fiberplast, Flora, and Meats, because alot of them cannot afford to spend their skill points in Artisan and/or Scout skills and still be able to stay alive with no bloody weapon skills.

It should be common sense, that if you need to make something that will hide you from the things that will kill you, you should HAVE TO BLOODY WELL WORK FOR IT! And if you cant do it yourself, that is what your friends and guildmates are for.

It is really beginning to piss me off that this game seems to cater more to the PvP populace than the RPGer. When this game first game out, It was being hailed as an oportunity to emerce yourself into the Star Wars Univers. To become a entity that will fight and play along side of the story lines that we have loved over the years and the characters that we've lived vicariously through. It has steered so far away from that, it's not even funny anymore. If I wanted to play Unreal Tourn 3, I would have gone out and purchased it. At least they dont charge you play online.

I can understand adding and subtracting certain skills. I have very few issues with the nerfing of some proffessions that have already been slaughtered. But dont you think that its about time to start looking at the priorities of it all? Several professions are in upheval, and what is done about it? "let's make it so that more people don't whine about having to way the whole 60 seconds it takes for the logos to pass before they reach the Start-up Movie (which you only had to hit ESC to by pass sine the bloody release)!"

I like this game, and there was so much potential in the beginning. It is drastically being lost. The story line are becomming droll. The missions are just Hack & Slash. The Cries of Alderan: Act 1? PLEASE!!! Where is the adventure? "lets go kill some thugs"

Here's a Hint!! Fix whats wrong with everything NOW. Dont try and change anything else (with very few exceptions that need to be addressed). Then go back and look at where things can IMPROVED. So far you have made several vast improvements over the previous profession that is called Ranger. I for one am happy that you have made us little more than Glorified Scouts.

The Designers of this game had a vision. I liked that vision. I want to string up all of the @$$holes that whine and send them to URT3 with my compliments.

Are you giving us what we asked for? Yes. Are you making improvments to the game? Yes. Are you attempting to cater to everyone? No. I am impressed with the amount of $#!@ that the DEV's put up with on a regular basis. I am happy with a majority of the changes that have been made. I am not satisfiesd with the communication of the changes that are either in testing or when they have been made public. I appreciate the dedication and diligence of the correspondants for each of the boards. The game is fun sometimes, and rancid at others. I keep hoping this will improve, and often times they do for a short time to keep me enamoured. However, There are lot of people that have quit (and we all know that they will return in the future when things will seemingly be more stable and sorted out), but when will the Designers and the DEV's grow some "veggies" and start saying "Look! this game is supposed to be fun! Stop whining about not being able to kill some other player because he has made it a point to use stratagy and armour over you and your inability to accept that you may infact get killed now and then!", then perhaps you can return to the original idea that was sought after in this game. The one that I read WAY back in February 2001, the one that I felt honoured to be a part ofwhen I was selected to be a part ofBetas 1-3. The one that I thought I was going to get when I shelled out my $15.00 a month.

Excuse me? "Whiney, idiot Rangers."? Who the hell do you think you are? Rangers didn't demand any component be removed. We simply asked that the harder to find planet specific components be adjusted. "Just plop down a harvester" eh? I run two mineral harvesters for my guild and they suck me dry of time and money. I'd move them closer to a citybut it's ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO GET SOMEONE TO SURVEY ME A BETTER SPOT!. I'm just gonna stand outside of a StarPort and some nice player is gonna drag his happy butt out 3000m from the city to find me a nice flora resource location for my harvester. One which will probably dissapear in a week when resources shift. Oh, and I'm gonna do this on EVERY planet? Right. We should have all thought of that. Now that you have shown me the error of my ways I think that I can now move on and give my life meaning.

I don't know what crawled into your mind and got you started on this flame. If you honestly believe that Rangers not being forced to pay a great deal of money for Flora to build camo kits will destroy the game then you may want to think about something else to do with your spare time. Seriously. The whole concept of the Ranger is one who is self suffecient in the wild. If you have to go to a city, or operate some complex piece of machinery, to fully utilize your Ranger skills....you aren't really a Ranger, are you?

All that we asked for was the ability to forage berries. You are looking for anRPG, doesn't it make sense from an rpg perspective for rangers to be able to forage berries?

why cant swg or any rpg etc. be true to the ranger char. a ranger was a self sefficent char. 1 who could hunt /trap anything, 1 that was able to treat/heal there wounds using the resorces around them,or meds they p/u in a village,1 that was able to blend into there surroundings it was thought they dissapeared. but even in swg using a pistol even w/pistoleer skills and w/ranger skills there r too many creatures a soloist ranger cant even/shouldnt attempt to hunt for,for you die or waste your time and this is going up against creatures equal toor a color code above you,[im not saying all animals equal your lvl will kill you.] no matter what your choice of weapon is when you pick a profession there should be appropriate weapons for that profession used only by those professions, unless you are a master pistoleer/riflemen/carbineer then u can use any in your field of mastery.BUT as it is rangers traps r a 50-50 workable item, a proper weapon w/o all the add ons/slicing done dosnt do good enough damage, and if you cant heal any type of wounds you may receive, and no stopping, setting up camp to heal bleeds/poison and whatever else is a major waste of time,as u know u cant fight while camping thus disband. i do like playing prg but have them working b4 we waste time on professions that r not/dont do what they are suppose to be. i didnt meanto b itch touchy subject i quess no time to to check 4 typo's sorry

Um - it should be easy for rangers to make camo kits. Just as it's easy to make camps, basesand traps. Or do you think we need 40 specific types of resources to make those too? Why not add dolomite to a list of resources we need to track while we're at it? How about requiring even more of the mythical Lok domesticated meat to the list of requirements for camo - or better yet, maskscent as well? You clearly haven't experienced the game enough to know how hard some of these resources are to acquire.

I can't use the skill points to survey as my character is maxed out. I've been trying to find Dathomirian deciduous wood for a while. I've been to several resource outposts throughout the galaxy, guild mates, friends, etc. There isn't one unit of it on the bazaar anywhere in the galaxy. It might not even be on the server. I asked people to look for it but was either flatly refused or asked silly amounts of money. And the camo kits don't even work that well in the first place. You should actually play a ranger and try making all 10 kits for guildmates before you come here all self-righteous and preaching at us.

Also, some of us are doctors/medics with other specific resource needs as well. As long as we have limited inventories we need to keep the sheernumber of resources needed to use the skills we earned at a manageable level. It's all I asked for - aside from conceal to actually work.

Anywho:

I performed some more testing on Test Center last day:

Parameters:

  • Master Ranger

  • Planet: Naboo

  • Creature Levels varyed from levels 7 to 50

  • Results include both humanoids and critters

  • Character was at running speed during the break check

  • Results include break checks against a group member who was concealed by me

Results:

  • 469 successful checksand 19 failures

  • Worst frequency: Rogue Falumpaset 60% success (10 checks, 4 failures)

  • Humanoids apparently have a better chance of breaking concealment than critters

  • Critters: 95% success rate

  • Humanoids: 90% success rate

I will post a more detailed breakdown of the results once my testing is complete.

I will then move to a different planet (whichever you guys think would be best), and continue the testing with a new batch of critters.

Please note that I am only a Tera Kasi Student, and therefore can't take on the more advanced planets with the fervor required for formal testing...

Therefore any suggestions about the next planet to test should take that into account.

remy69, wow rangers are idiots huh? Please have some respect and try not to bring down the level of this normally excellent board.

I like all the fixes to camo kits and conceal. Waiting to see how good they work once they hit the live servers.

Thanks. It seems to me that conceal is geared towards a soloer or very small group getting passed a 1 or 2 sentries. From your research, it appears unlikely that even a small group would be able to get past even a small group of humanoids (ie, 5 group members and 3 tuskens = 15 checks which you would expect to fail at least once). Since conceal is intended to be used for a group, I'd have expected it to work better than that, especially given the cost.

Anyway, I mentioned Tuskens as I think it a good test and reasonable, given your level, to see if you can get past them and kreetles (my biggest camo nightmare). For me that would be the acid test.

Great testing! On the surface, it looks like it is working very well.

Perhaps testing on Rori or Talus? There are enough aggressive npcs you should be able to further test humaniod vs creature.

I'd really like to see the results from extremely dense areas -- Yavin or Lok comes to mind. If you don't mind a lot of trips to the cloning station, that is

"It seems to me that conceal is geared towards a soloer or very small group getting passed a 1 or 2 sentries."

From what I have seen, you are correct.

/maskscentshould achieve similiar results (I'm leaving testing up to DeltaXi65) without the heavy expense.

/conceal is useful for hiding support groupsmembers (Combat Medics, Doctors, Entertainers) who don't have the /maskscent ability.

From my testing (my group member is my medic... Thanks for helping Le'Mac ), this philosophy works very well.

The medic remained concealed while my conceal broke during combat (requiring that I only reconceal myself after battle).

However... If the medic was attacked and incurred damage, his conceal broke.

Some critters, like Gnorts, have a nasty habit of attacking the weakest group member... And apparently that code does not take conceal into account (I will be checking on this with GreenMarine soon).

For myself, once the changes are pushed to Live, I will be using /maskscent almost exclusively, while concealing my medic companion...

I believe this will be a cost effective way of using /conceal.

"Anyway, I mentioned Tuskens as I think it a good test and reasonable, given your level, to see if you can get past them and kreetles "

Yes DeltaXi65 was complaining about the kreetles as well... Though his approach to testing them was rather informal at best.

I have trouble with Tuskens on Live at Tera Kasi (0.4.4.4) level... They alone are an excellent reason to use /conceal.
