The GRM Ethos

-or-

Don't make it hard work to have fun!

1) A GRM can and should be held on ANY server. They should be held on the server of the person, or group of people, who are hosting it. That having been said there is no reason why a server can't be picked at random and everyone heads there.

2) It's about having fun.

3) You don't NEED to have a ranger toon on the server that is hosting the GRM. Once upon a time, back in the day, there were no rangers in the world, only newbie scouts. With stinky CDEF pistols. "Ranger is a Lifestyle", remember?

4) It's about having FUN.

5) It doesn't have to be about going after the uber spawn or the biggest critters, travelling to the backside of beyond or hitting every planet in one evening. One early GRM started at the starport in Mos Eisley, a bunch of newbie scouts with little green droids, waving fearsome CDEF's and making the locals nervous by exuding cold, calm confidence. Or tittering.

6) It's about having FUN!

7) The hunt is part of it, but mostly it's a chance for rangers, past and present, from all galaxies to gather in one place and have a right good laugh.

8) It's about having FUN!!

9) While it is wonderful for the hosting group to be able to supply visiting rangers with clothes, weapons, credits and more, it should be borne in mind that many of the toons will be temporary "visitors" to the server. It'd be sad to see the GRM's descend into the sort of cometition that kids birthday parties have become. If that happens you'll end up with people not hosting GRM's because they can't afford to 'outdo' the hospitality of GRM's past. Please, don't bankrupt yourselves trying to host a GRM. (9a. Just like real life sometimes events conspire to make it necessary to postpone at the last minute or for not as many people to turn up as expected.)

10) It's about having FUN!!!

Ken gave a pretty good description of what the GRM's are. They real key here is that the noobiness and the comraderie are the reasons for the hunts. So, someone take the reigns here or a) we won't have a hunt, or b) I will make it Wanderhome!

I still vote TC. It's pretty much neutral ground. Besides, I can make tons o' weapons for folks there.

Ditto what Ken said.. especially "rule" number 9

The only thing I would say is necessary is having a doc who can res. It's no fun if you die and have to run back all the way from the clone center.

Yup, I have to admit a doc is the 'first luxury'. Everyone blagging novice medic and stocking up on stims works, up to a point. That point being, as Kimi points out, the "oops, am dead and wow, its a long way from the clone bay when you have the TN of a sponge".

I think the only thing we really need for a Great Ranger Meet is a Doc and some txtra weapons. The Doc needs to be supplied with lots of Rex packs and stims. Extra stims to hand out if possible. From experience, newbie Rangers will assault anything that moves, including kimos and Goraxes. And they will run away from the Doc in all directions. (grin) So be prepared to drag and Rez. A lot. I attended the first few GRMs as a bloodthirsty Master Image Designer Twilek unbuffed, unarmored, migrated to a whopping 500 health. Doing unarmed. I definitely love my Doc.

Uh, sorry Calc, I have to go and make some Rex packs now. We can talk later.

A second luxury might be a Master Squad Leader. No need to worry about TN then. And the extra defenses help keep people alive longer. And the evil SL can use rally to make sure no one can harvest.

Also, it might be useful to have pilots with multiplayer ships for the GRMs from now on (the veteran reward yachts are probably good for this--has anyone tried transporting a non-JTL enabled person like this?). This way travel is much less of an issue. Although I think the newbie ships can travel now as well.

Umm, I thought he poisoned you, not the other way around. Or is your clone going to take vengeance?

All I have to do is run up a big hill. He has no chance of catching me then.

Calc's a patient one. When the Ranger Revamp hits, he'll be sitting there waiting in ambush for you. Whether or not he successfully gets revenge is another question, though.
