It was either that or "masochist"
The crucial issue as I see it is simple. Conceal/Camo is NOT maskscent. Simple as that.
Mask scent is what I would do when hunting deer irl. I'd mask my scent and use some scent to attract animals (hey how about that for a future idea...) to my blind/treestand. Obviously this would not work against humanoids, just as it doesn't irl.
But if I use seasonal and terrain specific camouflage, then I am using means to avoid optical (and assumedly auditory) detection. This would work on humanoids as well as animals.
More specific to the game, if conceal isn't a marked improvement over maskscent, it's a waste of skill points, especially when you consider the investment in organics involved.
I feel there is every reason to have conceal work against humanoids as well as animals, it makes for a good defining role of the ranger. As a balancing agent, it could be possible to lower the effectiveness of conceal for non-rangers using camo kits (applied by rangers, natch), I'm not sure if it works that way now.

I still think it is a bunch of bunk to run through even pack of kreetles, step on all of their toes and come out without one of them hearing me freight-train through their lair.
Kreetles break my scent more often than rancors....
i truly bow to you
LOL. You guys slay me. No really. I'm laughing hysterically. LOL.
Also, I'm not sure what level of agro rancors are, but I think the reason kreetles detect us a lot is because they are at a higher agro level. Not sure if that is true, but I think I read it on these highly dependable and accurate message boards.
First time read-through on this thread. I tend to skip over really long threads of this nature, as much of it is repetitious. I'll admit I started to skim after page 1.
Anyhow.. Just wanted to give kudos to one poster whose post grabbed my attention, and made me say " Yeah!"

- To me, the Ranger is a guy that can say to 3 BE: come with me, i'll take you safelyto the Bull Rancor nest and make sure you can harvest it. I'll set up a great camp for you to experiment in.
- To me, the Ranger is a guy that can say to 3 CH: come with me, i'll make sure you find Graul Maulers and increase you chance of safe taming.
- To me, the Ranger is a guy that can say to 3 Surveyor: Come with me, i'll make sure you can search and survey this planet undamaged and plant your harvesters.
- To me, the Ranger can take a commando and say: You wanna do the Nightsister team-park? Come with me, i know Dathomir and the indigenous tribes. With me you might be able to enter the nightsister camp, as i know their customs.
- To me, the Ranger can take a hunting party to the great Dun See and say: we'll get Bantha hides. Just follow me, and i know how to keep Tuskens off our backs.

I agree with what everyone is saying but I especially think that this should also apply to PVP not just npcs. Whether it's the yellow dot idea, or something else, we need something. As a side note, I thinkthis would require a new skill tree to accomplish this and I propose we trade trapping for it.
I'm going to repost my reply to a similar post you made in the "NRaas, why is stealthier 'far too imbalancing'" thread. On a side note, I completely agree we need something that helps us in PVP as well as all forms of PVE. The Outdoorsman proposal has the /combatConceal proposal to accomplish this, and I'd be willing to request some sort of 'yellow dot on radar' ability if we can find a way to reduce the susceptibility to packet sniffer programs used by cheaters to circumvent it. Anyway, here is the repost:
Why would we have to strip out one of our trees? We already have Wayfaring which gives us camo kits and conceal. Just add this functionality to that line. Perhaps rename it "Infiltration". I know trapping is next to useless right now, but there are many, many ideas on how to improve it (just see the Outdoorsman proposal for an example of some cool and unique trap ideas the Ranger community has come up with).
If your argument is that the devs might want us to have 2 lines focused on stealth to get invisibility (i.e. Ranger must have Wayfaring AND Infiltration to be able to hide on radar), then I'm going to have to disagree. Make the Ranger skill tree: Master Ranger, Infiltration/Wayfaring line, Frontiering line, Tracking line, Trapping line, Novice Ranger. Then add the 'hide on radar' or 'complete pvp invisibility' skill to the Infiltration/Wayfaring line or to Master Ranger.
Just my opinion of course, but I fail to see why we should give up a potentially satisfying and unique line (Trapping) in order to gain concealment skills that should be covered by our current Wayfaring line.
Thanks for reading.
