Well, the way I read the devs response to the camp issue is:

to scouts: you'll get nothing as far as camps go cause you've got enough already. And it wouldn't hurt you to have some useless things in your skill tree like all the rest of the noob professions.

to rangers: we'll do some work on camps for your profession, but we haven't a clue what we'll do yet

My thought on that is: I'm glad that they are finally putting some thought into the age old question: "why in god's name would a scout have a reason to sink skill points into the bottomless skill point pit which is ranger". But I'm dissappointed with the lack of vision or urgency that is shown to this issue. His answer came off with a fair amount of indifference.

Hmm i didnt like this response at all. They said they would make scout fun thats all realy but the main part of the answer was saying elite professions will be looked at first.
A camp revamp will effect both professions alot and for scout to get a camp revamp they need our help as we are the elite or scouts (the main elite) and for us to get em we will need scouts because they have the numbers, we dont.
In other words for any improvement in the camp department we will need to work together and there is no point 'hitching a ride' on the back of the scout push because chances are they wont get anything unless other elite professions push for the same thing.

For the record, I am very happy to see I am not the lone dissenting opinion on this response. Thank you to the other Ranger's that bothered to post their opinion, even though it may not have been all flowers and candy.

The plan is to improve their combat usefulness in the CB and address other items on the schedule under the “Correspondent Issues” umbrella.

I thought that statement was pretty committal.

They have made statements like this before but unless they detail the changes coming it is noncomittal

You know, at this point even if there was a post giving exact dates, specific change details, etc., I wouldn't believe it until I logged on and *saw* it first hand. We've been burned before. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me! And third time's the charm!

That reminds me. Anyone know who wrote this and when?

Here are two hints:

1) It was a long time ago, but not in a galaxy far, far away.

2) Look at the very top of the Ranger forum: the topmost stickied post, the one that has the cool red name as author & the official looking SOE icon as well, the one that has 400+ replies, the one that was posted mid-August *last* year.

It still amazes me that so many Rangers still have their pollyanna outlook on our profession. Can anyone name something specific that is going to be done for us? Any timeframe? I didn't think so. It will be a year before anything substantial is done for us because hardly anyone plays rangers and we are so damn nice and subservient, that they know we will just sit still and take it. To Rancorridor and the other brave and realistic people, I salute you. You can see things for how they are. Someday the others will see clearly too.

Sorry devs, your credibility check bounced at least six months ago.

Oh, and does the profession need a revamp? Well, three out of four lines are utterly useless, so I'd say the answer is a big "yes".

Utterly useless might be going a bit far. Camo could be extremely useful with a bit of work. (Scout) Traps are effective, they just don't hit on the big stuff. Take a non elite combat profession out hunting and they will love you for the traps. Camps are the closest to being worthless and I got the impression that it might be handled with the Squad Leader revamp (as the Devs indicated to the Scouts that the elite profession!S! would see benefits from camps really points to us and SLs as I doubt BHs will be getting camps). And, if they end up using the modular camp idea, modular traps wouldn't be too much different for a correspondent issue. PvP stealth could easily fall under the Combat Balance sandbox type changes. /track could fall into correspondent issues. Etc. Yes, a revamp could take care of multiple issues at once. But I think the majority of our changes don't need to come as part of a revamp if the Devs plan it well.

Camo does not work effectively enough to be used on yourself, or anyone with Explore 4 in scout. Mask Scent works better. Especially since they lowered its effectivness against NPC.

Traps? Umm when's the last time a Ranger use a RANGER trap? I sure don't. My bread and butter are P. Darts, Adhesive Mesh, an in groups with low levels, glow wires. Those are all scout traps. The line would be usefull, if 2 things happened. 1. they gave ranger some more, no a lot more, traps.(we have 2 scouts have 11) and 2. They came up with traps for NPC we could use, and some very unique trap ideas like we have in our Outdoorsman proposal.

IMHO if Rangers don't get NPC traps, then BH sure should, if not both. The fact that we are being certed for the new armor, and supposed to be the best armor in game, gives me much hope for our combat usefullness. That alone will make me hold master ranger until after the CB, so in combination with the armor and CB I can see what they have planned.

The points to look at for some sort of light at the end is this. We are, as pretty much all prof are, going to be considered in the combat balance, and given a roll in combat. Now ranger is basically a support roll as far as combat is considered. If they want to to give us cool bad arse armor, that sounds like they want us to be a heavy support class for combat. Putting us up in the front line area with the main combatants. Giving us that armor said 2 things to me. Here is some lovin, and "you're going to need it after the CM."

The ranger resonce alone was soso for me. About what I expected, so no disappointment. But the combination of the CB and adding us the armor, gives me hopes. Oh and I will get to dual wield some day. hehehe

The armor is simply a way in which they hope to silence us and fix nothing. The CB is just the most current bursh off. Developers are supposed to fix issues before adding new content. They add content to avoid fixing issues.

(Every one who has read this paragraph, and under stood it, can now pass Statistics 113 easily )

I'm curious why such a system wouldn't also apply a weight to populations which are under-par. A team would probably need to look into anything too far above or below the normal range.

Also a population shift should flag them that something is up. If there's a slow but steady attrition of the population then something is either driving people out or pulling people out.

This kind of thing should pop even subtle problems out of the deck pretty easily. If a profession doesn't have enough perks the population will drain slowly as people get bored and get flagged for attention. If a profession is suddenly the flavor of the month it should scream bloody murder for analysis. Likewise a sudden shift *away* from a given profession. And then overall watching subscribers come and go, there should be a metric to try to tell which profession is the most "game breaking". If you see 22,000 people leaving DE this month and 22,000 cancelled subscriptions in the same period you probably want to consider looking at the correlation because now it's not only affecting game balance but also revenues.

Exit polls for cancelled accounts would be a good thing. Maybe for professions as well, but I don't see how to maintain a system like that in-game.
