Thank goodness I didn't have to go through anything like that Peta! Dad found out he had Cancer last Monday and passed away in his sleep... It was indeed better for him to go quickly, for his and everyone else's sake.

My dad had cancer in one form or another for8 years before he died. Also he was paralyzed because of a stroke the last 5 years of his life. The last year of his life he was in and out of sanity. That was why I had to sign the papers to pull him off the machines. He had went from bad to worse. Another stroke and his heart was about to give out according to the doctor. But the machines would keep him alive. They brought in all kinds of brain surgeons to see if he would ever come out of his ramblings and they said he wouldnt but you never know. I remember standing there with the doctor and the hospital admin signing the papers while dad was lying in bed behind mebabbling like the March Hare about "meat apples". The only thought in my head was "Dear God please dont let him come out of it this time." If he had "gone sane" all of a sudden they wouldnt have been able to disconnect him from the machines.
