I don't know how you can't not max out trapping first thing, but maybe it's just my playstyle. I had the XP to train in ranger trap 2 before I could master scout just in tranqualizing vir vurs and squalls.

I'm pretty sure this is intentional. Something similar can be done on Dantooine between bols, pikets, huurtons, and voritors and is the only way I'm able to complete missions there when solo. It takes quite a bit of strategy and time to keep from getting killed, especially when the bol runners finish off the voritor and then come after you... and that bleed shot wears off long before the bol is dead too so if you make it back to the same spot after ending up at the cloning center or camping-out far enough away to not get killed and let that TEF wear off, you still have to repeat the process over again before one of them is dead and hope you did enough damage to get to harvest at-least one of them. Of course, on try2, the new voritor is agroed against a different bol so all of the damage they are helping with is not helping you take down even one... maybe that's our advanage: don't shoot at the one taking the most damage by the lizard and hope you can take it down before the lizard goes down and you'll get one harvest.

Trapping seems to have been given to us a the one "easy" line just like it takes (at-least took before, don't know how it is now) no time for artisans to reach survey 4. Maybe they should lower the amount of XP you get by how far down the TEF list you are for that creature.

Lol, this whole thread is just too funny.
So getting a creature to attack another creature is an exploit, huh?
Taking advantage of a real life situation in a game is an exploit. I guess next your going to say that someone who uses the terrain to their advantage is an exploiter. Or maybe you'll say that anyone who isnt still using a cdef weapon or a weapon-powerup is an exploiter. How about someone who uses mask scent or conceal(hopefully soon) to sneak up real close so they can throw that trap is an exploiter.
Who are you people? Are you even rangers? Or scouts for that matter?
If you are unaware of what I am talking about, its called a food chain. And if you lack a whole lot of experience on the subject, in real life, humans are at the top of it. I'll explain it very slowly and be sure to use really small words so that you can keep up: Things at the top of the food chain eat the things below them on the food chain. IT'S HOW THEY GOT TO THE TOP. Ever of heard of Charles Darwin? Survival of the fittest?
One more time for the folks in the cheap seats: Carnivores (that means it eats meat) eat herbivores(that means it eats plants).
Instead of complaining, whining, and name calling, maybe you could try and appreciate the depth of detail that the devs have put into this game. I guess they really didn't have to include something as basic as a food chain, but I'm certainly glad they did.
If you disagree with this persons tactics, then dont use them. Its that simple.
Just because you didn't think of it first, doesn't make it wrong, or an exploit.
Oh, and by the way, if you were also unaware of it: WALKING AROUND ON ENDOR IS DANGEROUS TO YOUR HEALTH. So its not really like there is no personal danger involved. And while I havent personally been there that is generally the word on the street.
Didn't really mean to go off on a rant here, but it is just too funny.
Happy hunting to those of you who can enjoy it.
For those of you who can't, happy flaming.

Ps I am aware that in my third sentence i used the words taking advantage which technically mean exploiting. But if anyone feels they have to copy paste any of this message, when they can manage a witty comeback, go right ahead. What they mean by exploiting, is when you take advantage of a system bug. And in my most humble opinion, the inclusion of a food chain is attention to detail, not a bug. And if you are a scout and have the examine ability you will realize most of your aggressives are meat eaters. Aggressive Herbivores are just really hungry How is that for a desperate rationalization?

2 things. Firstly, the tactic is smart. Call it what you want, to each his own, and play your own game and mind your own game. He's smart and good and that why he'll make a great Master Ranger.

Secondly, trapping xp is too easy. It's not an exploit. It just too easy. It need to be nerfed. The reason why it's too easy is not because the traps stack, it's because the trapping xp success rate is not dependent on challenge level. Your success rate against a CL0 is the same as a CL50. However, whereas you only get 42 trapping xp for a CL0, you get 800 trapping xp for a CL50. It's not an exploit. It's a mistake on the developer part.

Nerfing it is real simple. Either make the trap success rate dependent on the CL or make the trapping xp dependent on the trap, not the creature. In the former, fewer trap will succeed against a CL50 hence the trapping xp doesn't gain too rapidly (this is a bad nerf since it'll now be impossible to hunt con red solo). The latter nerf is the best. It would then be exactly as combat xp. In combat xp, your weapon xp is based on how many "success" hit you get with each hit xp based on the damange done, not on the CL. Easy creature requires less hit to kill, so you get less weapon xp. Harder creature takes more hits to kill, so reward more weapon xp. Simple nerf to trapping.

So all this nerf would mean is that you'll level up the trapping line at the same speed as your scouting line, no biggie.

Now, for those screaming "exploit", get it right. It is a mistake on the developer part, the entire trapping xp gig. It is not an exploit. Developers need to fix it. An exploit is when someone use some crazy combo to get xp which one "normally" can't get. A goof-up is when anyone can get crazy xp normally. Trapping xp is a goof-up, not an exploit. Get it right and be nice to other (calling people exploiter is same as calling them cheater, not nice). Nobody cheated. Trapping xp is SNAFU.

So, what should be done is the creature you trap targets you and the creature it was fighting targets you for interfering... how 'bout them apples?

bah, nerf the hell outta it...this master ranger will be grandfathered in

And if any of you want to exploit another way, just goto Dantoinne Imperial outpost, trap a Bol and drag him to the AT-STs. You can usually get about 5 traps off before the AT-ST kills it. Plus if you get some shots in, you can get the harvest xp too

The easy way out is yelling "exploiter" and hope the masses jump on the train and follow you.

I've also understood that most people knew of this, but is simply afraid that SOE will see this and nerf it so you can't throw multiple traps. Sad really."

It seems that new and more intelligent people have no concept of the correct use of tenses and commas in a sentence.

The only gripe you could possibly have here is, traps give too much exp.

Just an FYI, I'm master rifle/Ranger with just frontiering 4 left. And I have yet to even come close to hitting 100+ hours of playtime. I get missions, 99% of which on talus, and I do them. It's that simple. I didn't do Biz natch missions, I just tried to limit wasted time (death and travel).

If you have a problem with the way SOE is doing something direct it to them, rather then calling people names, please.

I agree. I saw a group fighting Fambaas a while back, asked if they minded me throwing traps - they said go ahead. I threw about 20 traps but none would work (I assume the level of the mob vs my level had a strong influence there). I imagine that now I could get silly amounts of trapping experience in this way. The easiest ranger line is trapping by far.

And survival experience is no risk experience, hence per our so man-of-honor, all our survival experience is an exploit.

Having said that, kudos to you on getting master rifleman/ master ranger in under 100 hours played. It takes longer than that to just get all my survival/frontiering levels. How did you manage that?

Trapping experience is too easy, but trapping does not need to be nerfed. The reason people do this, especially since we get no new traps after Adv Trappin III (that I can remember) is because traps are pretty useless. As a melee ranger (TKA) who normally solos when hunting creatures, I use wire mesh almost exclusively. Think about that. Why did I even bother with trapping experience anymore? If there is no reward for extra trapping experience, what difference does it make how we get it?

On a personal note, getting trapping experience like this is just as much of an exploit as using traps when someone else is tanking. In other words, it isn't or the vast majority of trappers are exploiters.

Guys,

Trapping doesn't need to be nerfed, because they already did what needed to be done - they've upped the required amounts for levelling.

Now that those are higher, trapping will go a little slower, more in line with the rest of the trees.
