you guys are underestimating the size of football linebackers.
there are HIGH SCHOOL footbal players in the US topping 325lbs, and pro linebackers usually end up in the 350-425 range. the lightest players you'll find are QBs and faster players, and it's getting harder and harder to find them under 240 pounds these days.
and I can guarantee it's not all fat. even linebackers have to run speed sprints, and most of these can MOVE. They're not going to be running a 4:40 mile, but they're not simply fat, either.
Football peeps is BIG. I don't know about you, but if I had to be hit by a 425 pound linebacker, I'ld love to have some protection.

Actually..I agree with you. I would most likely be a DB, but I would be the little guy. That weigh the offensive line in TONS now (That Tonnes to y'all across the pond).
But yeah, there isn't a soccer player that can hang with a NFLer.
For the record, I use my size for evil in Basketball...I never played football

Weight isnt everything dude
There are rugby players a lot heavier than Lomu but they just cannot compete at the top level. Taking down a big runner is the easy part with teamwork, getting through the defense is another when the game is played at a sprint pace for 40 mins at a time. Both sports have their greats, there isno doubting that, but in rugby being a lardass gets you nowhere. You need to be a complete sportsman. I think the main thing it comes down to is the way the sport is played. American football is slow and scripted so you get the players there for one job, even just for a minute, whereas in rugby you need to be able to defend, attack, command and keep up all for 80 mins.
Both sports are very fun to watch, but American football seems to have much more of the 'wow, cool' aura to it than rugby which is more like 'holy crap!'. Sort of like american football is designed to just be flashy and present to viewer withprety lights andscripted action.I think over here we prefere the spontanous actionjust because you cant predictit. You only get to see one angle to a players talents in American Football whereas in rugby you need to complete package.
Great sports, different audiences.

But did you expect a football player to be able to kick it with an american football player though heh? Football is a non-contact sport, whereas American football clearly isnt heh.
yeah, I was comparing american footbal to soccer. rugby is a great sport. spent more than one day in the scrum myself. but American football to soccer to me is like comparing drinking Guiness to drinking Budweiser. (no offense to those of you who drink Bud. I drink it myself, but the two beers are WORLDS apart in taste)

That's debatable
Hehe well yeah, the rulebooks say non-contact but officially you are allowed to "go through a player, after imediate contact has been made with the playing ball". Basically get to the ball first and its all good ![]()
Ice Hockey, decent game, played roller hockey (no icerinks around here) for around 6 months.
Well i waited to reply...like a good Ranger...hehhehe

The two games might not be enough alike compare in an entertainment level, but as sports that foster sportsmanship there is no competition.
They do not transmit rockby game or cricket games here in DK, so I can really comment on toughs, and I have never seen a full base ball game, only highlights, but it looked as borring a soccer highlights.

I cannot recognise soccer as something to be admired. Even if you ignore the despicable behaviour of many fans after thair teams loose, I have never heard of two NFL teams fans clashing or of the police having to up in riot gear to keep the offences down to a few fistfights and vandalism. However in soccer, the player them self are not good sportsmen. I mean who can admire a sport where faking an injury to gain an unfair advantage for you team is not uncommon? That is just unsportsmanlike, and I have seen it to many times (It is impossible to totally avoid seeing soccer her in DK, it even creeps in to regular news shows).

That is the socity not the game, games are just that. You to are narrow minded. If there is allways a ' I WIN' button, it's not a game.
