Thread: Mask scent check fails aggro creatures. This is a mistake.
In general, I have found the changes to maskscent to be very good. However, there are a few AI glitches that have definitely been overlooked.
For example, I was doing NPC missions in Mos Taike yesterday, where there are a lot of swarming dewbacks. These are aggro critters that will stalk you and then BAF once they engage. I noticed that these guys were aggroing me constantly with maskscent up, yet I was not getting any notification of it being broken, nor did the maskscent icon disappear from my my stat bar.
After running throughseveral packs and experiencing the same issue, I decided to try it out with maskscent off. In this case, the mob behaviour was completely unchanged. The mobs were still stalking me and aggroing with the same frequency, leading me to believe that maskscent was not working on them.
When I am running to a destination (90% of the time) and mobs spawn on me then:
Mask scent up - Get aggro 80% of the time before clearing mobs off radar.
Mask scent down - Get away 80% of the time, clearing mobs off radar and never getting agged.
Before changes there were agressive mobs that would not initiate combat with anyone. After the change these mobs will aggro onto anyone using mask scent 80% of the time.
It is broke. No doubt about it. There is no way that mask scent is supposed to offer less protection than someone not using it.
Mask scent can be better utilized now in certain situations. But over all it is not as good as it was before.
I think the mask scent works better, but yes you have no indication of whether it fails. And now that mobs simply aggro on you if it does, it's tough to know what to do or whether or not the scent is working until you end up in combat.
On Dath I've been flying through red con lairs but random attacks sometimes still happen. I guess mask scent is failing but it gives you no indication.
Note to Ranger Correspondent: We need message if mask scent drops. That should finish the debate.

My CH/Rifleman has Wayfaring 4, and it seems that MS rarely breaks now, but if I try to turn it on while I am am near creatures, I might get attacked just because I tried to use it.
On my 2nd account, I have a BE/Tailor (who cannot defend herself) with Exploration 4....she is getting attacked left & right now. I am getting attacked a LOT by non-aggressive creatures. It's to the point now where I am ready to just give up all of those points because MS is more of a liability than it is a help.
You should NEVER get attacked because you tried to use MS, and you should NEVER get attacked by non-aggressives if you leave them alone. If you are attacked it should be because you are too close to aggressive mobs w/o MS up, nothing else.
And I have not gotten ANY scout xp from MS since the patch either.
