Ya the server crashing problem is still there.

The frogs got locked also. Tiggs said every one is going home and they will get the frogs up tomorrow.

Well, reading the threads on Test Center and in_testing I'm glad(?) to see I'm really not missing anything much at all...

6 hours connected, down to JUST 23 hours to go (From an original estimate of 24hrs) Beginning to look like they've finally built a patch so big I'll have to give up testing.

As for pre-ordering RotW? Well, I know the final publish size will be a lot smaller (always is) but I dunno if am prepared to take that chance.

(Hotels wireless connection is giving 64kbps tops. Suckage!! Especially as it'd cost me 30 quid for 24 hours access, lol)

Well, solved the problem of the massive downloads.

After fully 20 hours of connection time trying to d'l a 24hr patch, I still had 24 hrs left due to new patches having been added and the whole process having to start all over again. Not going to tie my connection up any longer.

Cancelled the pre-order of RotW and I'll just pick a disc up in the supermarket the night it goes Live.

In the meantime, I'll get back to trying to test Scout/Ranger and see what other horrors CU has in store for me

Bad news for you Almagill. Current statements on the RotW site say that pre-orders get a three week headstart ... if you can hold out more power to you.

Question: If you haven't been explicitly accepted as beta (i.e. no email reply since applying to website), will you still have to download the files, or are you excluded?

You will still have to download the files, or a significant proportion thereof, as the artwork and objects appear in game. Think back to when JtL went Live, the players who only had the groundgame still had a large publish to download.

Oddly enough, I'll have no problem holding out till the physical shipment of discs goes ahead. It wasn't a problem when we did JtL, even though I'd tied myself in to the testing of that product too, with its huge download in the 250Mb range.

Mightily p'd to find that, even though I'm now no longer RotW Preorder status and I have JtL installed, I'm still facing a 20+ hour download.

NOT helped by the fat that, by the time I get much downloaded ANOTHER patch has been banged out to try and fix the problems people with faster connections are already experiencing, resulting in my download being started from scratch yet again.

SO, for the foreseeable future I'm out of the test, CU or CU/ROTW.

My plans now are to go back to Live, grind the marksman skills that a couple of my non-combat characters are going to need just to be able to walk round town, finish Ace on my pilot and see about finally bringing my entertainer up to MID/Dancer/Muso.

I'll also be deskilling my Ranger, concentrating on getting him the last two boxes in Rifleman and looking for a way for him to be able to stay a 'fun' character to PLAY.

BiTs is largely pointless on a dialup connection as it only functions when there is an active net connection which is 'idling'. If I'm online its so I can download something, check mail, play SWG...

In addition to which, checking the patch log files, TC5 disables background downloads while patching and, if its basically tying my phone line up to download the main files, there's nothing left to d'l anything in the background with.

(It is switched on for Live, as every little helps, but, meh)

You're stronger than I.

My pre-order of JTL came nearly 2 weeks after it went live and I was fiending the whole time. Just thought I'd give you the heads up in case.
