Thread: force sensitivity ranger style
A small thing to notice:
If you take all those skill mods, you get everything that a Novice Scout has except the schematics. We never actually get a harvest skill, just a mod. Same with camping. It probably should be tested to see if they have secretly given Jedi the ability to harvest, camp, and move quickly. I have asked one of my Jedi friends to try it after publish 9 (but only if they can trade in those skills for new ones--I don't want them wasting them) but it would be best to have someone try it before then.

i was thinking about this the other day... the +5 to camping in particular... this will give anyone the ability to drop a basic camp (woo!)... however, i don't think the bonus to harvesting would help without the ability /harvest - which i'm pretty sure is granted at the novice scout level..just as mask scent bonus clothing doesn't grant you the /mask ability... of course, this could change in some upcoming revamp...
And another thing--IF Jedi don't have to drop their other skills when starting up the Jedi path (which is what I understand the new system to be like) then you will have Jedi with Novice Scout (probably any Jedi that has the skill points will be getting some exploration skills). If true Calc, you HAVE to push the Devs to give us the harvest bonus with this patch. Without it, Rangers won't survive. The market is going to be flooded with resources by the Jedi. Even with it, we will have trouble making a decent living. With the new changes (assuming that you can still have other skills with Jedi ones), you will have Lightsaber Masters/Master of another Jedi Tree with Novice Scout. These guys can easily clear out Dathomir in a few hours (especially if everything stays lightsaber vulnerable). Yes, they won't get any sort of bonus on the low yield mobs but does that matter? Most Rangers hate hunting the low yield mobs. This sort of change might force us to be stuck with that as our only niche market (sorry for the bad pun). We need to be able to harvest a LOT more per kill to have any chance of not being driven out of the market.
They give us half of the information on purpose, so we can debate and try to figure it out...I guess time will tell what actually happens (it will probably change anyway). I will go read the Jedi trials postagain, but i am pretty sure they said you could keep your skills until you actually got to the point of deciding to be a Jedi or not (once you actually decide to take the trials or not).

Calc, as I understood it, when you did the trials, you traded your normal skill points for jedi skills as you went. So thusly slowly giving up normal professions as you advanced in jedi. But I think your theory on that would make more sence, if nothing for game balance reasons. I mean imagine TKM and Full Jedi Padawan or up to novice Jedi Knight? scary thoughts. So I could see them making you give up all skill points in normal professions at trials. Not realistic, considering Luke retained his piloting and blaster all other skills as he learned, but for game balance I see it.
Padawan and Knight Trials
Once a player has purchased at least 24 or more skill boxes of Force Sensitivity Skills they may undergo the Padawan Trials. Completion of the Jedi Padawan Trials signifies the start of a character's Jedi advancement. Once completed, the player will receive their Jedi robe and begin their Jedi advancement. At this point the player's Jedi character will be able to use actual Force skills and this will cause the Jedi to generate visibility on the Bounty Hunter terminals. Skills learned at this point will give a character more and more Force related powers. As they advance through the different Force Discipline skills, a Jedi will have to revoke their standard skills. This is where a player must start making important character development decisions. The goal being that in order to have a character that is a dedicated to the Jedi Way, they will only be able to be a Jedi. A young Padawan should be able to stand on their own feet using skills from their previous profession in conjunction with their Force skill boxes, but remember you will still be generating visibility!
Not all players will choose to complete their advancement through the Force Discipline skills; they can choose to retain some of their mundane skills in addition to some of their Force skills. If they do not complete their Jedi training however they will not be able to complete the Jedi Knight Trials and participate in the Jedi Ranking system.
Well, that answers it. Jedi, in the proposed system, can keep their original skills. We need to get the Devs to work on our harvest bonus now. Especially with the new lightsaber damage type.

Honestly guys... I have been doing solo group missions on Dantooine for a few nights to build up some easy cash. When I do this I get all the group messages of people killing creatues and harvesting. In a 12 person group at least half were harvesting hides, meat, and what not. I dont think a harvesting increase is going to make Rangers more useful.
What I am trying to say is just about every combat profession will keep some scout to harvest and sell those items. Sure its low quantites but they add up eventually among the thousands of players leveling up. I dont think there will ever be a "major" want for resources that Rangers must be called upon to deal with. Sure we can harvest more and have a better chance at finding spawns. But I dont think anything we can get with areatrack cant be found on a mission terminal.
I think we need to focus on more aragorn style ranger rather than Steve Irwin. Dont get me wrong... I would love a harvesting bonus but I am beginning to believe its just not necessary.
Yes, way offtopic but something in the thread made me post...
Calc... is it possible for you to suggest a new Poll asking how many players actually harvest and sell organic resources without being Master Scout or Ranger? I would be willing to bet there are a ton of folk with novice scout(more I would bet just to have the terrain negotiation).
Dont mean to rock the boat but I dont think harvesting is really our biggest problem these days.
To an extent, I agree. But, with Jedi, the story is a bit different. I have gone hunting witha few Jedi friends. In a matter of two HOURS killing rancors, I had 100k resources (and Jedi don't hunt together because they couldn't get as much xp killing the same lair). A Novice Scout without the 60% harvest rule would get about 96% of my harvest rate. Throw in the +5 harvest bonus from the Force Sensitive trees and they would get the same harvesting rate. Add veghash, hunting 4,and a droid on top of that and they get well ahead of us. And this is before every mob is vulnerable to a lightsaber. Most people just don't seem to realize just how powerful a Jedi is in PvE (PvP is currently different because of the ease of making high kinetic resist armor and good buffs/stims). The new upgrades seem likely to make Jedi even more powerful. Yes, I agree that harvesting isn't the most important thing for us (I rarely bother to hunt specifically for harvesting). But the Devs need to at least consider this closely.
