just consolidating someideas so I don't lose track of them... forgive the cut and paste

----- snip ------

I've been thinking about these two ideas.. and my thoughts were similar in that we should have a "Creature Harvester" or a "Forage Harvester" that allows us to set up a semi-perm trap (that we have to pay maintenence on ) that would in effect trap local creatures... and allow us to release them and skin them

Just think...

/CheckTrap

3 Durni
4 Gubbers
1 Sharnoff Bull (DOH!)

The concept being that you can either kill or release the creatures... if you decide to skin... you get no combat xp, no weapon xp, no scout xp... just the hides, meat or bones.

If you /release... they spawn and either aggro or run away depending on if they are yellow/red.

So in effect this is both of your suggestions in one item...

The only other idea similar to the lair summoning would be to add an ability where we could "Track" a special type of creature that doesn't normally spawn...

This would allow Rangers to actually "spawn" off-radar... a unique mob that doesn't appear normally in the wild... For those that played AC2, this would be something along the lines of the named special creatures that give a little bit better xp, have a few more items as loot, and are a little more aggressive/tougher than the norm.

Just think!

You could use your /TRACK skill to spawn Old Floppy Ears - the Crazed Durni champion... this Durni is twice the normal size and has twice the normal hp ... but yields slightly better xp, and more hide/bone/meat than normal... and it may even drop a rare item... (Old Floppy's fuzzy tail) or something...

NOW THAT.. is what /tracking is all about... and it wouldn't be terribly hard to code as basically you are creating ranger missions in the wild that spawn a single slightly bigger creature than normal (no new creature meshes needed).

Just got this idea from another thread... and I'm absolutely in love with it right now...

LET RANGER BASE CAMPS APPEAR ON GLOBAL MAP!

So the way this works is similar to how advertising works for vendors. As a merchant if your skill is high enough, your vendors appear on the global map under the category of items you are selling...

Therefore... if you have the ability to create one of the two highest level Ranger camps (or maybe just the highest level one) ... when you set up the camp, it would appear on the global map under a tab called Hunting Parties or Camps or something like that... along with a named tag like... "Zarn's Base Camp"

This way if you are looking to start a hunting group or if people are looking for a camp to go heal in... they could find your camp!!!

For those that are questioning how people could find your camp from the map... THATS THE REASON YOU HAVE A SATELITE DISH ON YOUR TENT!! (see ranger base camp photo for proof)

http://home.satx.rr.com/proxnet/htfb1.jpg

This makes COMPLETE sense and would be a huge benefit to all players as they could find Base Camps on their planet without having to run around and look for them...

Thanks..

I'm also starting to join camp (har har) that thinks Rangers should have some sort of offensive capability... I mean.. aren't Rangers supposed to be badass combatants? When you think Rangers shouldn'twe be the strike team sent down to Endor to take out the Shield Generator? We should have some sort of combat skillz... other than /sacrfice...errr I mean /rescue...

I like the idea a lot of Ranger camps appearing on the map. That would be very useful.

Rangersneed to be able to take down humaniods. Tell me that a ranger with all his knowledge can figure out a way to adapt to this? Critters are fine but when you want loot then being a ranger leaves you flat-footed.

I also have to agree that the high level ranger should have some "oomph" in regards to pvp.Actually I think every profession should have something that addresses this.

We'r supposed to be masters of recon, traps, and stealth.

Hard to implement at this point, but I always thought a Guerilla warfare tree would have been nice.It would have included things like being able to set traps(not just throw them) around a perimeter, like maybe trip wires or claymores.Being able to make/use camo paint, which when combined with mask scent would let us escape detection by npcs/enemy faction pcs.Would be great for scouting out an enemy installation or base camp.Once we engage the enemy our cover would likely be blown however.

Perhaps get a "to hit" or damage bonus when attacking from a hidden position initially.Once our cover is blown ( by attacking) it would go back to normal,or if unmasked by a npc or enemy player,we would get a penalty, basically giving our enemy a free shot at us or something like that.

Against humanoids,a tear gas or smoke bomb trap might be nice.

I think the way to implement something like this might be make it so you had to be a master ranger to use/purchse/make these things, since they are pvp oriented and pvp/factions might be considered as the "end game" of SW:G.

In my mind, the scout should be mostly geared towards pve,the big game hunter, fronteersman, trapper. The ranger should be better at these things yes,but should be able to apply those abilities towards humanoids as well.Hard to balance yeah, because we don't want to take away from the Bounty Hunter,we just want to be useful in the galactic conflict as well.Anyway, that's how I see it.

One thing I have wondered is why do Bounty Hunters have a seperate mission terminal? Wouldn't/Shouldn't each elite class have a terminal?

I get so tired of hunting down gnorts/capperflaps for credits. A Ranger station would gear higher paying missions very much like BH missions. The mission may cause you to travel to a distant planet to hunt a specific game and harvest meat, or hides, or bones.

Ever since I got Ranger, I have need to pretty much abandone the mission terminals because as a higher level pistoleer, I have to sort through tons of outpost missions.

Gear Rangers for big game. By me being a solo-based player, it will be hard, like it is for BH to catch and kill something large, but at least I wont be bored chasing chubas for 2k per mission for a max number of 2 missions.

For a ranger who naturally dislikes cities, I am in cities a lot.

Rangers should actually be the Creature versions of Bounty Hunters imho.... Scouts shouldn't be a combat class.. they should be a Recon class (duh)... Rangers are all about seek-n-destroy or defend-the-frontier

I hear a lot of talk about combat from camps, but I still don't think that's the right way to implement this.. I think that Rangers should be able to make a "new" type of camp at levels 1 & 3 of Frontiering that is a "hunting blind" or "sandbags" that allow you to take a defensive posture while within the zone that gives you a defense bonus ... this would allow us to craft 2 new types of structures designed for hunting in the wild (would not work in town) and would give us some offensive oomph by allowing us to give people a defensive buff for being in our "defensive camp". Camps should stay camps... no turrets... no defensive bonus... it should just be for resting healing... we really need offensive versions of these to make sense.

Defenses against aggros = shear way no aggro will run amuck in your camp. But I see your point.

Rangers have always been more defense oriented. I think instead of waiting for Master Ranger and randomly getting defense bonuses, should get them earlier. Flesh out traps more, a lot of things people said already I'd agree with. Rangers should be in ways a MOB version fo what BH is to PVP. But Rangers need more defense and offense mods against creatures, but I don't know. Rangers will be addressed and more flushed out int he future. If ANYTHING, the devs won't Nerf us, we can only go up.

For creature tracking it can be based on CL. A novice ranger can get a waypoint to say any creature with a CL of 10 or below.

The rest could be thrown into the bioscience line

Novice Ranger +10CL

bioscience1 +10CL

bioscience2 +15CL

bioscience3 +10CL

bioscience4 +15CL

Master Ranger +5CL

A Master Ranger can track find a level 65 mob.
