Thread: FS Findings (regarding scout xp route)
Owen-Lars wrote:This might be off topic and unanswerable, but how does the previous profession grinding play into it? Do you get to skip a few of the earlier missions?Basically you get to skip some of the fun missions and get right into a grind like you have never seen. The fastest way is to get the 220+ million weapons xp. Oh yeah then you got the trials and the super grind up to knight trials. The devs have realy messed up on this one
I am trying to be positive. Really and truly I am. But. Oh dear. Oh very, very oh dear.
To quote somebody in a film I saw once "I've got a bad feeling about this"
IF you're a happy go lucky, lets explore the hills and vales rangery type and have got yourself a shedload of exploration badges, done a couple of dungeons as part of a group "cos rangers su>< in PvP" then, lucky you, you will very probably be FS.
Some old man in a raincoat will try to tempt you off to a village, and you'll attract -5k FP with a bunch of psycho campers.
Am really not happy about this.
Trying to run a copy of my regular Live toon, and, even ignoring the old mans quests, etc. Once you take that ****ed crystal you daren't go out without mastering some sort of combat skill, loading up with buffs and crawling into your robocop outfit.
As if hunting didn't have enough problems without having to watch over my shoulder for Shadow Sith popping up.

Hehe. Does this mean after 10 goes live all the FS crafters and entertainers will have old men stalking them until they can find some combat buddies? It shouldn't be funny, I know. But LOL.
My advice: don't grind. Just play normally. I cap my scout and rifle xp pretty darn quick. Once you cap just go to the village and trade it in. Allow FS to be a gradual progression towards Jedi. I can understand the impatience - I know I was really looking forward to getting and instant second character with patch 10 - but grinding will just ruin the game for you (You meaning a general You, not you guys specifically).
There will be lots of grinders I am sure, but I say - eh. Let them have it. I will have fun at my own pace.
And if I keep repeating this I will gradually convince myself.
In evidence of which I submit the following for the jury's consideration, m'lud...

You are absolutely right about playing it for fun...unfortunately, for some, this means using every available means to get to the goal as quickly as possible, or more correctly, faster than anyone else, so that they can brag about how they 'mastered xyz in 3 picoseconds with one hand tied down'.
Unles I misunderstand and you have to get that exp within a three week period, I see no problem in this. I spent 6 months getting my first master ranger because leveled up as I played the game, rather than playing the game to level up. Sure there will be players who will advance much faster than me, but so be it.

yep- I don't like what I'm reading here about conversion rates being unequal, but I don't see how this is going to be that bad, esp. not for those of us who actually use our skills. I'm pretty much a professional hunter, which means that I'm always harvesting things, etc.... so I don't see (and never have seen) scouting xp as something that is going to be hard to get. I mean we have more than decent maskscent skills at master ranger and I don't know about the rest of the people here, but I'm pretty much always maskscented, which means, at least in my case, that just being maskscented a lot will be a pretty reliable source of scouting xp (well, if, that is, I'm on a planet that actually is capable of spawning creatures). At least now I won't be wasting the tons of scouting xp I'm capable of earning, but can't get because I'm capped.
Of course trapping xp is a whole 'nother matter lol
