if they have unlocked after pub 9, they get jedi w/ pub 10. They have to grind EVERY proffession at this point though, which is silliness in and of itself. That means that in the coming weeks they'd have to get through all profs. If you REALLY want to spend that much time/energy/money into grinding through every prof that quickly....well more power to you, i guess. Me, I'm going to wait for a quest-style approach that I can at least feel good about playing through, even if it boiils down to little more than grinding combat XP.

This is horrible! I return to find my new title on the forum is "Jedi". What's up with that? If they wanted to confer that I'm rare and learned, they'd make my title RANGER. and then make it camo colored.

This might be off topic and unanswerable, but how does the previous profession grinding play into it? Do you get to skip a few of the earlier missions?

Basically you get to skip some of the fun missions and get right into a grind like you have never seen. The fastest way is to get the 220+ million weapons xp. Oh yeah then you got the trials and the super grind up to knight trials.
The devs have realy messed up on this one

I am trying to be positive. Really and truly I am. But. Oh dear. Oh very, very oh dear.

To quote somebody in a film I saw once "I've got a bad feeling about this"

IF you're a happy go lucky, lets explore the hills and vales rangery type and have got yourself a shedload of exploration badges, done a couple of dungeons as part of a group "cos rangers su>< in PvP" then, lucky you, you will very probably be FS.

Some old man in a raincoat will try to tempt you off to a village, and you'll attract -5k FP with a bunch of psycho campers.

Am really not happy about this.

Trying to run a copy of my regular Live toon, and, even ignoring the old mans quests, etc. Once you take that ****ed crystal you daren't go out without mastering some sort of combat skill, loading up with buffs and crawling into your robocop outfit.

As if hunting didn't have enough problems without having to watch over my shoulder for Shadow Sith popping up.

I believe this system is indeed better than the old profession grinding system. However my problem lies with what the devs said during the development stages that each profession and playstle will have an equal oportunity to get jedi.

This clearly isnt the case with entertains way down at the bottom of this list and us second. I would be in favour of this method however the fact is we are clearly at a distinct disadvantage to other playstyles and i think thats wrong.

Hehe. Does this mean after 10 goes live all the FS crafters and entertainers will have old men stalking them until they can find some combat buddies? It shouldn't be funny, I know. But LOL.

My advice: don't grind. Just play normally. I cap my scout and rifle xp pretty darn quick. Once you cap just go to the village and trade it in. Allow FS to be a gradual progression towards Jedi. I can understand the impatience - I know I was really looking forward to getting and instant second character with patch 10 - but grinding will just ruin the game for you (You meaning a general You, not you guys specifically).

There will be lots of grinders I am sure, but I say - eh. Let them have it. I will have fun at my own pace.

And if I keep repeating this I will gradually convince myself.

Well, I have been here since the second day after launch. I have played the game to have fun, hoping that my actions and deeds in the game led to a FS unlocking. Then the holos appeared. Then holohunting started. I took my then Master Scout/Carbineer character and tried to find a holo. I tried to out-loot the loot ninjas in the Crystal cave on Dant, only to give up and try to find "Force Sensative" NPC's in the wild. Found about 50, killed then, got crap for loot.

The Christmas came, I got 2 holos and bought 2 more. Now I'm on the path to Jedi. My first holo prof was Weaponsmith. Ah crap, grinding crafting XP sucked. Took me almost 6 weeks to master it because I was not running missions to make money, just unloading harvestors, etc. I unlearned some ranger skills to get master WS. After Weaponsmith I finished off master Artisan. That took 2 days of mindless sampling. So, I go to my next holo...Dancer. this wasn't all that bad, cost me no money and made a few thousand in tips. Took about 2 weeks to master. So, after Dancer, I spent 4 days mastering Entertainer. Why not, already had a lot of the XP. Third holo told me Chef. Wonderful, another crafting grind. This time I was smarter as was able to stockpile resources before I needed them. Chef took me 4 weeks. 4th holo was silent.

So now it's April 2004. Some 8+ months after I started. I went back to just playing my character Ranger/Carbineer/CH. So now it seems that after the Jedi revamp comes out, it'll be another 3 months before I can become "fully "Force Sensative"". Within that 3 months it appears to be a huge XP grind. Kill this, harvest that. So instead of mastering a profession, learning new things about the game, I now have to just grind away XP. That doesn't sound like much fun, and it appears that if I drop Carbineer for TKA (which is my plan) I either use the XP for FS slots or use it to further my TKA skills.

Maybe I'm a little more sceptical about the change since it wasn't anything like I had thought it would be. Maybe I will like it after I get my hands dirty, but right now, I'm not liking it too much.

You are absolutely right about playing it for fun...unfortunately, for some, this means using every available means to get to the goal as quickly as possible, or more correctly, faster than anyone else, so that they can brag about how they 'mastered xyz in 3 picoseconds with one hand tied down'.

I only see a problem with this if you have the attitude of; I need my FS character and I need it now!
Unles I misunderstand and you have to get that exp within a three week period, I see no problem in this. I spent 6 months getting my first master ranger because leveled up as I played the game, rather than playing the game to level up. Sure there will be players who will advance much faster than me, but so be it.

Yes the system is not bad but still would have been more fun if the quests played a bigger role.

Good news to those who havnt read my other posts on the matter. The scout conversion rates have been changed they are now 1>8 instead of the ridiculous 1>15. I think camping has also gone down to 1>8 but not sure on trapping

Thanks Owen (and others) for testing this and giving feedback that they listened to. We will all thank you even more when we are trying to get our FS boxes!

yep- I don't like what I'm reading here about conversion rates being unequal, but I don't see how this is going to be that bad, esp. not for those of us who actually use our skills. I'm pretty much a professional hunter, which means that I'm always harvesting things, etc.... so I don't see (and never have seen) scouting xp as something that is going to be hard to get. I mean we have more than decent maskscent skills at master ranger and I don't know about the rest of the people here, but I'm pretty much always maskscented, which means, at least in my case, that just being maskscented a lot will be a pretty reliable source of scouting xp (well, if, that is, I'm on a planet that actually is capable of spawning creatures). At least now I won't be wasting the tons of scouting xp I'm capable of earning, but can't get because I'm capped.

Of course trapping xp is a whole 'nother matter lol
