Great idea but there will allways be some people willing to pick up hunting 4 and hunt for all their might, making an absolute killing in the process.
When I read the CU docs about the new combat roles and so on I was extremely excited. All I wanted was for that to be introduced with NPCs and Mobs to use the same ham system and have their AI improved. The new armour systems is so so for me, id rather they had just altered current armour to make it more reasonable and added some new, worthwhile faction armour.
The killer for me is the new level system. I will be leaving the game if it stays which is a shame because I've had some great times here with some close friends. If they added a new server that was left post CU I'd probably just go play there instead for a while at least.

1. We have always had this, they just have never nerfed it. And as other have said scouts get this also, so as true Ranger only ability it is not, and it can't be a hopeful sign because we have always had it.
2. This doesn't have anything to do with a positive in Ranger, although we are certified in one class in it, but this is more of all of us wanting more diversity in armor and other things, not a Ranger thing. But I too am glad, I hope they do this well, because it will help the ecomomy diversity in fights and just plain visually. But as a Ranger bright spot, not really, we have always had the ability to use armor and of any kind, it was just that composite became the only really viable armor in game.
3. Again this is a general update and hopefully improvement for all people, not a Ranger thing, nor will it help Rangers as Rangers any more then it does any other profession. So in general again I agree I am glad the Devs are working on getting things more balance in game, but not specifically for rangers. It is like saying food buffs will help us, true, but so does it help everyone else equally.
4. This will take a while to see, because in truth, my one toon who is not a Ranger is a pure fighter, and he can out harvest (not in quantity of units per kill of course) any current Ranger out there and get paid faster if the resource is worth it. Where the rebalance will help here is if pure fighters are no longer able to solo or even a couple take on say Enraged Rancors by themselves and wipe out an entire lair without breaking a sweat. As it stands at the moment they can out harvest use time wise a lot, and yes I might be able to find more things in 500m radius then they can but for most of these they are not scarce and they just jump on their bikes doa few jig jags and they have found their next lair. So I willing to wait and see on this one, but so far I have seen anything hopeful yet, because they will have so much more life, that they will still have a lot more staying power then us.
5. Hmm, I am not sure I would whole heartedly say I think this is a good thing. I have had Ranger toons within a week or so of going live (having vacation helps), I have seen so many of the Rangers who really loved it go because they could do things easier and faster in other professions or got tired of waiting forever to see any real kindness toward Rangers overall (yes camo was nice and areatrack also, and now after a long wait, a little harvesting bonus for Masters and in groups) but overall we lost some very good people. Many of the so called dabblers started getting seriousuntill changes and updates to other professions just did not make sense to them to stay as Rangers. Dabblers should be welcome, because if we get viable enough some of them will turn into dedicated Rangers after they find they really love it. Yes it will probably discourage those dabblers that do it just to make "money" and then forget it which in a sense will be nice, but overall we will lose more then we gain from it.
I do appriciate your seeking to find the silver lining at this point in time, but I can't at this time see these as that, at least not as Rangers as a profession to us. Overall I think you are right for SWG.
As some say, and believe me I have heard this for a long, long time, and I can't believe I have gone back to saying it either, "wait and see". OH, gads there I said it.
