Well Duelist stance adds 125 to both melee and ranged defense so there's no doubt that it'll help protect you better. I've considered BH several times but usually seem to do so when I'm on a contract and don't have the time to grind through the investigation line for Imp Duelist stance so usually just end up gaining/dropping combat prof boxes the entire time lol.

Somebody said MRanger is going away? And maybe TN? huh? That's a new one.

He meant he was getting rid of MR, it isn't going away for us, just him. I was confused when I read that as well..

Gah, I told myself I'd never make one of these threads, but after thorough looking I have to ask. I checked out the template thread that Bio posted awhile back in his "all the links you need" thread and the template guide by Owen, and even delved into the BH template thread moving through all 15 pages, but I can't quite get what I'm looking for here.
I'm mainly looking to be slightly less gimped defensively as a Master Ranger. I'm currently a Master Pistoleer and have been for many a year or two. Now, my main sort of question is as such: My Offense is 70 speed and 145 accuracy. My Defense is 140 melee and 145 ranged.
I need to find out what the stats on a MBH are in that offense/defense regard. I know what the specials are and have found a bit of material on what works best in terms of templates, but some details just haven't been posted. Figured there are a few MR/MBH here so I thought I'd ask, albeit it'll probably end up slightly redundant seeing as folks always seem to be asking ranger-template questions around here.
It'd mainly be nice having more than 3-5 specials that do barely any damage, while managing 3-4 other specials that mainly disarm, warn, intimidate, etc. I suppose an addon question to this is: Is BH strong enough against animals weapon-wise when compared to pistoleer, even though it lacks a +root+ special? Seeing as root is the only thing that saves my life nowadays with my poor defenses.. Anyways, thanks for your help if you can, sorry to bring up more template crap here. heh

I dont know the stats mate but i loved my BH/Ranger. He wasnt a scratch on my rifleman/bh/scout but did good enough. The defense values were high because of the innate and the duelist stance buff.
Against creatures you should be fine because you will have spec and admesh traps to root if you are only going creature combat. You will also have your knockdown as you already know.
Overall a great template, arguably the most effective master ranger template.

Heh, I'm sure it'd be a pain to level. I tried leveling a BH on Scylla about a month ago and it was a bit annoying, and the investigation line seems pretty bad at times. Luckily I /respec'd to MBH and didn't have to deal with that problem. Least all that MP experience I had over the past two years went to good use.
Mostly this just gives me something to do when space, hunting for cash, or searching out trophies gets me bored. Seems like a good waste of time at the moment, so bound to end up pretty decent in the long run..Message Edited by Dyrwen on 07-24-2005 08:44 PM
INV is a pain but When i did it it ws bugged, Survival was cake. But getting lvl 4 in inv was like getting the master ranger tag and setting up that HTFB. Its a real thrill.

This was a very interesting thread for me. I am building my second character as a Master Ranger and I was going to match it with Master Rifleman, but matching it with Master Bounty Hunter seems like an intersting combo I had not considered. When one compares the two builds when it comes to hunting (solo) critters, does MBH really do a better job as a critter hunter?

As for stats, remember that at 4000 BH you get "Improved Duelist Stance" which gives you +250 to both of your defences for a limited time (and you can set up a macro to keep it running).

Depend what you're looking for. By the looks of it MBH has better defenses than a MPistol, MCaribeener or MRifle, and considering with a decent rifle or Krayt pistol, or even a proton carbine you can deal more than 1700 damage with a critical hit. Or at least that's what I've noticed so far.
Since I've used pistols for so long a chance to switch up between 3 weapons makes the experience more unique in learning how to use them all effectively, so maybe that works for you, maybe it doesn't. The solo aspect of hunting creatures might be the same, but if you're using traps I'd imagine MBH will work damage and defense more effectively than just a rifle covering one target. Maybe I'm wrong though.
