Thread: Pistoleer, Carbineer, Rifler?
well, I like rifle. I do agree that rifle should have a much longer range however. I mean 64m are you kidding? An expert marksman in the Marine Corps can shoot up to 500m with a large degree of accuarcy.
Average shooting distance of most firefights in combat ( real combat, not police encounters) generaly are around the 50m to 150m range and as far as 300m. This is with an M16 which is an intermediate round.
With a higher caliber like the 7.62 M60, supresion fire is effective out to kilometer and directed fire to about 800m. Now I know game mechanics would not allow this kind of range, but certainly rifles and carbinesshould be able to shoot further than a 2/3 of a football field..

Rifle, if creature gets close traps and back away
Same, mindShot for the biggens. They bleed at your feet.

Not quite... the scout/snipers from the Marines shoot up to 1000 yards with their M4OA1.
The Army snipers using their M24 have a max effective range of just over 800 yards.
Just for reference to even have a chance of completing the Army sniper training you have to be able to shoot 90% of targets at 600m, "cold barreled" i.e without warming the gun with previous shots.
I am all about the carbine love'en.
I you hunt with out a carbine you are missing out.
Pistol atm, but almost at novice smuggler. I will get as much smuggling as I can with the skill points ihave left..
I have experimented with both rifles and carbines (I have this feeling a pistol nerf is coming...).
I like rifles but the problem with them is the 3x penalty to damage you take in melee. If 2 mobs get in close, and face it, this happens, you are HOSED unless you pick up two-handed melee (mind specials combine with the mind rifle). I didn't want to spend all that exp for a finishing move...so I went carbine. Rifles also have som huge penalties to hit at close range.
Carbines have a 2xpenalty and fire considerably faster. I keep a nice high damage CDEF that was sliced for speed for when a mob gets close. The CDEF has no close range penalty. Its laser cabine - leg shot - if they get close...switch to CDEF...warning shot...when they run...back to laser carbine and leg shot. You just cant do that with rifles because the close range penalty and long reload.
It basically came down to the fact I just didn't want a melee skills...this is Star Wars. That being said, Rifle + a nice axe is a really really nice combo. Then again, so it Carbines and Pole-arms...
