Thread: State of the Profession (Sep 24)
You two would make a great couple.
But which gender lays the eggs?

"When you as marksman gets /takecover and have ranger at the same time, not good."
Whoops...
My apologies. That list item seems to have gotten misplaced while I was reordering the list.
I will put it back on in the next version. ![]()
"So the yellow stuff means the "top issuses". Does this mean that these changes are actually going happen? Or are the Devs just look at it or what?"
The Yellow issues are part of our Top 5 Report and send off for evaluation by the developers.
So, no... There is no guarantee that the changes will occur, but the developers are aware of them.

Actually, they could be aware of all the issues (by simply reading the State list themselves), but the Yellow ones are the ones the Forum deemed top priority. ![]()
I am a Mid - level Wookie Ranger on Kauri and Loving it. I've read through the forums quite a bit and have read most of ur posts NRaas. I have two questions for clarification. Both of these things I would love to see implented in the future.
1. Will the concel/camo-kit ability ever work against other PC's. My hope is that it will allow us to NOT appear on radar toPC's outside of our group members until we attack. This would give Rangers a fun PvP tool.
2. Will Rangers be able to Forage for items that will heal us in the same vein as Stims/Wound packs? This would make the Ranger much more independent and free up spent points in the Medic skill tree. These points could then be invested in a combat class as the Ranger needs a little more umphh offensively in my opinion - not that he should be an amazing fighter, but at least capable of holding his/her own.
"Will the concel/camo-kit ability ever work against other PC's."
Anything is possible... But there are no official designs on the table at the moment.
"Will Rangers be able to Forage for items that will heal us in the same vein as Stims/Wound packs?"
I don't know...
If such a system is implemented, it would need to handled delicately so as to not impose on the Medic Profession too much.
NRaas I gotta say man, you are on the ball! ![]()
I used to be a Smuggler and that profession forum was definitely one of the most calm and mature forums, but you guys have definitely topped them by far! NRaas, you do a great job of keeping people informed and doing it in an organized manner!
I'm impressed man, keep up the good work!! ![]()
While I'm not really diggin the bow and arrow Ted Nugent wannabe craziness, I could possibly be persuaded if this were instead some kind of Ranger only weapon line, that included a Tranquilizer gun as well and some options around it.
I think the Ranger deserves a custom weapon line to go along with the fact that they will be getting, eventually, a hunting blind. Maybe a Shotgun type weapon, a Bow Type Weapon, a Tranquilizer Type weapon, and a longer distance Creature only Rifle...for that matter, all of these weapons could be either creature only, or have bonuses to creatures, and/or penalties for humanoids/droids/vehicles...
I would like to see the trap launcher, definately, but with customized traps to use, like a better area net.
I'd like to see conceal work against creatures and humanoids.
I'd love to see the hunting lodge idea take place, but only if it could include a Explorer and Creature destroy mission generator.
How about a line of Medical Camps (smaller surgical tents)that can be used by Combat medics and doctors...a little class interdependancy here.
How about some options for Camp Defenses...trip wire traps and alarms.
Can we please have an option to turn off the spotlights on some of the camps...an on/off switch?
Can we have an option to /breakcamp rather than use the disband camp off the camp control?
Can we have an option to auto break camp once fully healed? Set this as a flag that can be set in the Camp control.
Can we have a Cooking Line of our own? Barbequed Nuna anyone? We have the camps and the meats, why not be able to roast things over the fire? Maybe nothing more than an option off of the campfire to cook meat, different meats give different end results. Maybe a way to allow another method of healing battle fatigue...Ranger cooked meats drop BF by 1-10, but count as food so you can't just eat all the time till your BF is gone.
Ghost stories. Every good camper knows the staple of a night around the camp fire is telling a good ghost story. I think it would be great if we had a way to save Ghost stories and tell them while sitting at the Campfire. Think of this like the Bio on players. Maybe every Ranger has the ability to save upto 3 Ghost Stories. These could just be saved as macros, really. But it would be nice if they could be recognized by the Devs like the Bios are being with a nice Badge.
What would be even greater is if the telling of these stories could also releive some Battle Fatigue, and had some actions associated with it. Thus Rangers could set up Camps, and begin telling ghost stories in the wilderness, other players could come listen to a story for a while and gain back some BF. This wouldn't be as good as going to a Cantina, but maybe 50% effective. It would also give some more reason to seek out Rangers in the wild and to group with them.
For the love of Pete, if I can throw a trap effectively and have it hit a creature, why cant I have any skill when I throw a grenade? Are they that different?
Please please please add ground placable snares soon...We already have minefields that can be placed, other than effect how is this different. Let them beplacable anywhere a camp can be placed.
As it stands, CHs can tame creature, and BEs can make creatures. Maybe we could have a Snare that would allow the capture of creatures without taming that we could sell to BEs and CHs. The Tranq gun fits nicely with this. And this would provide a good revenue stream to Rangers. Also the Tranq Gun could allow CHs and BEs a better chance to tame and/or sample on more aggresive creatures...Again with the profession interdependance. <Does this guy ever stop? I mean we're rangers, not groupers, we dont like other players...(sarcasm)>
Can we make some Camoflage Suits/clothing items that work? Add this to the craftable items. Allow these to be sold and provide additional protection vs. Agro creatureswhile traveling.
How about a hunting sled? This would be a sled(hover sled) that you would pull behind you and would hold only creature parts (hide, bone, meat) giving Rangers some additional storage for those items. How about a Ranger only backpack too? Better encumbrance benefits, more storage. We do tend to travel with all our worldly possessions, so we should be more efficient in packing and traveling...
Anyway, those are my daily ramblings...
I don't have anything to add to the incredible list. TH=his is a great set of improvements and adjustments, and I sincerely hope the devs take a LONG look at it and grant us some of our wishes.
And NRaas, you are amazing! I have absolutely no worries with you as the correspondent.
Under the Misc section.
I had the unfortunate task of being sick today, so no work for me. But plenty of time to play my favorite onliine game.
I went to Lok on Eclipse. I walked all the way to the volcano then to the imp outpost (I just found it, I didn't know there was one there, I liked that) then to the Canyon Corsair Stronghold and back to Nyms. I then set out east and found a crashed ship turned into a Razor Gang Base, and now I am standing in a small area with Farmers and Mercenaries and 3 little non PC houses.
The point of the last paragraph is to show where all I went. I traveled well more than 20K today. I many times went 1 to 2K without seeing any creatures or NPCs at all. I constantly used /areatrack, and found nothing in the area. At the volcano, I found nothing there. I did find the cave and one little group of Pirates around the edge, but nothing else. No flits, pharfels (sp?), or kusaks. I finally saw my first Gurk down by the river near the volcanoe. But on this huge planet that just over a month ago, I was worried about going very far from Nym's alone, that I didn't come back until today. I really don't know what happened to all the creatures.
On the way back from the Canyon Corsairs place, I put my character on autorun and went cleaning up my living room a bit. I went over 3K before seeing my first entity, and it was a weak pirate that I killed in one shot due to him attacking me. My maskscent was still on and I didn't receive any scouting XP listed in my system message chat bar, so I am assuming that I didn't come into contact with any agro creatures the few times I did take my eyes off the screen.
I only started seeing creatures again when I got within 1.5K of Nym's. Please give me something to see while out exploring. I need something to keep my eye out for so I don't end up in the cloning center.I have been to Dantooine, Yavin, Corellia, and Tat in the last 3 weeks. I have not taken a trip to the cloning center in all that time. I never take out my little pets when exploring, why should I when there is nothing out there to be protected against.
Sorry for the long post, but I wanted to show what I have seen or not seen in the last few weeks. I love this game and I don't complain, but this one day got me a little nervous. I have faith in the dev team and lucasarts. I believe we will get spawns back soon, but wow, what a long mostly boring day.
Have fun and see ya in game,
NRaas....awesome job! I just made Novice Ranger last night and am very excited bout the professions the way it currently is! If even some of the changes you listed go through it will be the best profession in SWG...IMHO!
I love the compound bow idea. It is funny how much of your real life transfers over to the game. I love the outdoors and hunting....funny how I got drawn toward Scout, Ranger, and Marksman!
Keep up the good work!
