I'm still not sure I understand the anti-buffing logic.

My problem with hunting unbuffed as a Master Rifle is that using the specials self-damages. I'm more likely to die from self-inflicted ham costs then a creature blow.

If you were hunting on a 10 cpu contract, which should be the absolutly lowest price any ranger should charge ever, really 15-25cpu should be the min. An average creature gives lets say 100 units. You have to kill 10-20 creatures to pay for the buff. This is maybe one nest worth.

And with a buff, you can spam StrafeShot2 all day and melt any but the 100+ level creatures before they can endager you.

Of course it's easier to hunt buffed.

If you go to fill a contract, not looking for fun just to make a few K so you can kick back for a few weeks, by all means, do it buffed.

However I think a lot of Rangers hunt unbuffed because once we're buffed, everything but our Tracking line becomes worthless.

When you can spam specials for free, our traps take too long to throw, root you and the status effects aren't worth giving up the damage you could have done in the same time with a special. Unbuffed however, a phecanine dart and a stink bomb become valuable tools. They still need a bit more "Oomph" ( hopefully the CURB and our Revamp will take care of that ) but they aren't worthless then, not at all.

Camps as well. Who cares if they got 100 wounds when they'e buffed? I don't. Unbuffed however, I put down a camp and heal up and while I heal, I craft... traps!

Camo as well. When you aren't invincible, it becomes a necessity to hide out in the midd of Yavin or Dathomir. Which in turn means yet another tree of our profession becomes worth it.

So for me, it's a reaction to the feeling of wasting my SP on Ranger. When I hunt unbuffed it doesn't feel like it's a waste and it reminds me of the goold old days were I would stand back, throw traps and stick states with my carbine. Now that was a blast!

I currently have Master Ranger/Master Rifleman/Novice Medic. The ONLY reason I still have medic is because of how much I hurt myself doing rifle specials. I think this will be addressed as part of the CURB, so I may then drop medic.

Thanks for the replies. Looks like I will indeed go Master Ranger as well and just keep novice medic, I think that actually leaves me with a couple SP's to pop into one other level 1 medic box as well so I'll probably take either speed or effectiveness, not sure there. I definitely plan on hunting unbuffed as much as possible partly because Crigoo is a break from the get buffed and rake in mass xp for FS conversion that I do with Mekar my main toon and partly because I want the new challenge of learning to hunt and live unbuffed. Since I'm just over novice rifleman right now I do get buffed and wear armor when I'm trying to harvest for $$$ like the current Yavin herbivore on Starsider because there's just too much stuff out there and in that case I need the $$$ more than the hunting lesson right now. If it was something on a lower level planet like Naboo I wouldn't be buffed however. I think I'd had Crigoo for a couple weeks before he got his first buff because as soon as I started him Naboo avian was in "season" and he lived out of Moenia hunting kaduu without buffs or armor, did very well too. I only got incapped twice and never died, not that Kaduu DB though lol.

I tryed both 1/0/0/0 and 0/1/0/0. 1/0/0/0 was much better in the end.

T21s don't take scopes, look at the range mods, lol. A really nice one is +23 at ideal.

I usually go unarmored and unbuffed. I keep a chest piece of Ubese with very low HAM and good kinetic for the times when I think i may need some added protection. I have Pixie if I need it and a large supply of brandy and milk. Master Ranger/Rifleman with Novice Medic and I went for effectiveness. It allows me to stay out in the field for much longer periods of time.

The hardest choice for me was dropping my CH. I had been using critters to tank for me, but since i re-discovered the beauty of a well made Las Riifle and Conceal Shot, I rarely need any backup. If I do I have a combat droid I can use (its name is AggBait) I generally don't throw it into the mix until I have to. I've also ceased using the Harv droid and veg and just started harvesting by hand.

I am looking forward to the CURB though.

Ok, sounds like effectiveness is the one to go on medic so I'll stick with that.....just noticed I already had it lol. I'll just drop med use back to novice since stim B's come at med use 5 anyway. I was going to go for C's just because I'd be able to heal double the health in the same amount of time but I guess if I need that I'm probably in trouble anyway if I'm not buffed. My current HAM setup as a Rodian is 800/800/1000 (I think mind was 1000 not sure now). I maxed focus and set willpower (or whichever controls regen on mind) to 500 even though it went to 700 to conserve some points though. The health/action secondaries are kind of low but my thinking was I could use stims if I needed to fix those bars which works faster than any regen anyway if you're not buffed and not a human.
