Thread: Question about comouflage.

Very interesting set of replies.

Is anyone aware if resource quality comes into the crafting process? I guess I will eventually keep stacks of high quality spawn in the categories required, but if quality issues are important, you can go through a lot of crappy carnivore meat, and presumably lower quality camo kits, before you stumble onto a high quality spawn for it.

On the other hand, I've used literally any hide and bone for my camps, and never noted that they maxed lower, or didn't last as long. So for camps, bone is just bone and hide is just hide. Is it the same for camo kits?

I'm honestly starting to question whether or not that's the case. I've always accepeted as it was, but recent evidence makes me wonder if there wasn't a stealth change somewhere.

A while ago, I made a set of really great camo kits using some really great materials. I'm talking I got a 19-use schematic out of my crafting, and a handful of 17-use kits. Premium meat and hide were used, and okay bone. Whenever I use one of those kits, it sticks pretty well--often to the Village and back, or through a lairs' worth of fights or two.

Recently, I forgot to bring some with me to Dath, so I quickly killed what I needed to and whipped up some with the so-so or crappy resources that were in shift. Those things broke so often you'd think I was a Novice Scout in a kreetle den. I went through a dozen applications in an hour before I gave up using them.

Went back, using my 17- and 19-application Good Stuff ones, and... They worked as normal. A few early breaks, but nothing out of the ordinary.

Went back with low-quality-resource-made kits again... Break. Break, break, break. Breakity-break-break.

So, could it be that the quality does matter? Or does the experimentation maybe do more for the camo kits than just give them more uses?

And why can't I use *all* my experimentation points?

And on the other, other hand...

I'm in the middle of a weird bug this weekend where I suddenly went Declared Rebel after a Stormie searched me, and in spite of trips to the recruiter, plenty of waiting, log offs, etc. nothing I do will make my Covert stick. I have an open ticket with Customer Service.

But I figured, great time to experiment! I hunted the necessary resources near my Guild Hall on Corellia and made a camo kit. There was nothing special about them - the bone was mixed animals, the insect meat was mediocre, the bristley nothing special either. Still Declared, and with my -5000 Imp standing, I camo'ed and ran into Korvella, where I stood right next to 3 different Stormtroopers who ignored me. I smacked number three, though, and had a nice fight.

Obviously, the scientific integrity of this experiment is somewhat tainted by the fact that a bug is involved. But the first time my status reverted yesterday, without my realizing it, they were shooting my hide off long distance, soon as the little exclamtion points popped over their heads! So the camo would seem to be working well on them. Could be there is a big difference re: the effect on a big aggo-ing critter on Dathomir, vs a sissy blue-con Stormie on Corellia.

I'm only sure of one thing: I have no idea what the answer is.

Are you a Rebel Colonel? I've seen someone post that they are often forced to Overt when searched after reaching this rank. I'm Colonel, but I try to avoid large groups of NPC Imps as I play unbuffed and would rather not find this out the hard way.

If it never goes away even after visiting a recruiter, then yea, it's certainly a bug. Good luck w/ it.

I get overted every time I get scanned, no exceptions. I now take the stance of just killing the NPC's on sight rather then run the risk. After all 10 minutes of TEF beats and Hour of waiting to go covert to continue hunting and fishing.

Heh, no, just a lowly Warrant Officer. Interesting that others have this exposure issue, while many do not. I got a little more jazzed up playing this way, actually. It felt like an intriquing tactical puzzle - and the added risk was exciting. Good advice on the ten minute flags, thanks. This happened just hours after I started glowing - shouldn't have anything to do with it, but for RP, maybe the Force is telling me something, lol. I'll have to TK meditate and ask my man Yoda about it.
