Thread: The 60% Rule
Actually, unless I am remembering incorrectly, a master ranger (or even a master hunter) gets significantly more hides per harvest than a master scout. If a scout gets anything LESS than 2/3rds (0.6667) as many hides as a ranger and they are grouped then you a LOSING materials by having them group and both harvest:
Assuming critter gives 100 hides to a ranger alone:
Ranger = 60 hides when grouped
Scout @ 2/3rds = 100 * .60 * .6667 = 40.002
Total of 100.002 hides.
A scout getting 60% of what the ranger gets will result in a loss of 4 hides (not much, sure, but I do not know the ratio of scout vs ranger harvesting). Obviously having more than 2 people who can harvest in a group will offset this, however it means 2-person teams are better off hunting solo and hoping the ranger gets the harvesting rights (unless the scout:ranger ratio is close to the 60+% mark)...
Ah well, no changes ever happen without causing some other issue for some other group of people... Here's a suggestion for SOE: the 1st person to harvest gets 'x1', where 'x1' is equal to the # of units they would always get (being the 1st person to harvest). Each person thereafter gets 'xn' = 60% * x(n-1) * harvest modifier for skill(wish I knew how to do superscript with this editor). Basically this means if an unskilled person is the 1st to harvest then everyone else will get proportionally less because the previous person ruined the carcass with his inept carving. Complicated as all heck to look at, but pretty simple to do in a formula that runs each time a person hits 'harvest hide'. The 60% is just using the current value, maybe it needs to be higher or lower. But since as it stands right now 5 master rangers will get 300% of the hides a creature should give up (what, the creature has more skin because there are 5 masters?), this alternative would get you 100% + 60% + 36% + 21.6% + 12.96% = 230.56% of the hides and only because there are 5 master rangers (who I am assuming have a harvest skillmodifier of 1, all other harvester mods would be lower for less than a master ranger).

My concern isn't about the hides, it's about the scout XP from harvesting. Is that reduced to 60%, too?
How, exactly, does this work? Say we have 5 scouts hunting together. We kill 1 critter with 10 hides on it. I walk up and harvest it for 100 scout XP.
We all get 6 hides? (30 hides total)
We all get 60 scout xp? Or I get all 100 XP points?
If we split the XP, I just stopped grouping. Especially if a group member is a BH that doesn't want the hides and doesn't need the XP.
If the other person in the group doesn't want to harvest, then ask them why are they throwing away money? At worse any Harvested resource can be sold for 2 cr/unit. With the increased demands, even 3cr/unit will be sell within the day.
I don't think this rule was put in place to make group a faster way to get scouting XP, but it is more a means to allow scouts to all get something from a kill.

I see what your getting at.
Harvested group kills yield 60% their normal resources and xp, but may be harvested by each scout in the group.
If group has only 1 scout doesthis mean that he gets only 60% of resources.I never actually thought about this that way before. Can anyone from TC tell is this the way it works?
Ok but back to your problem Japhy ... so you hunt with your friend who is BH. In that case she's master scout as well. But I don't see the problem here. You both harvest the creature and since she doesn't want harvested goods ... at some point she gives you what she has harvested. So you get your 60% and her 60%. Lot more than measly 100%. ![]()
Now I haven't killed any NPC's yet ... so I don't haveany experience at all how the harvest/loot system work with them. Can you harvest resources from NPC's or do they only have loot ... and if you can harvest them can you both harvest and loot the same NPC corpse? ![]()
Although this may be very annoying, i think the only way around it is to disband group each time you plan to harvest, also i'm not totally sure how they plan to work itbut hopefully you won't have to do that
