Thread: /conceal as it applies to PvP and on the usefulness of Rangers
I like the idea...here's my 2 cents. Guillie suit? Too graphics intensive. Besides, just hide behind a hill and shoot through it. Though it shouldn't be that way, it would work. Take the red dot off: Hell with it, take the dot off. I like that idea. Easy to program in and 'makes the other PvP or creature hunt for you'. As far as the rest of the attributes of conceal or camo. Just leave them as is. But once you use like a 'conceal outer garment' or some other special key: your dot disappears off the radar of others. Same things aplies (sorta) in EQ....you invis. no one can see you. But I tell ya what, makes it a pain to group. And the differance with EQ is; your not really invis. Your dot is just gone. PvP freaks can't complain?!? It's not like a dedicated ranger hits real hard anyway. Compared to Rifleman, Pistoleers, Bounty hunter, Commando's. Personally I'm a:
n ranger
n bounty hunter
n carbineer
n squad leader
and of course the stand by, medic
And I hang with a master ranger. On average I take down the same thing we're hunting faster then he can. Not always, but usually. So, your idea for PvP is good (gives rangers a good edge). Guillie suit, a waste...but cool in thought. If all else; Your asking for a suit that makes one look like a rock or a bush or somthing...Take it from somebody that wears camo everyday and then still wears it in off time based on it being deer season (right now anyway). It only works as good as the operator. So if you want the guillil suit? Good idea but it should look like a rock when you /sit. It should just look like the same color as the surrounding area and that's because you're looking at a '2D' image. Your eyes pick out shape and shadow and that's why your eyes get fooled by a guillie suit. So in-game, you, 'at best', should look like a blob of the same color as the surrounding area. But good ideas none-the-less.
I agree with Insidius, a graphical clue that we are actually camoed would be great. I was very disappointed the first time i used a camo kit and didn't sprout leaves or change color.
Graphics are not an issue when commandos have weapons that will literally lag a person to death.
My only concern with a jacket or cloak is that it will prevent the wearing of armor as does the cloaks in game now do. I like the way armor looks... its a nice change from the 10,000 players who think they are cowboys, gangsters or other cloaked figures.
I remember from an older post someone asking for a green ranger cloak (they also asked for scimitars and a magical panther), which might be useful if the cloak (with the camo ability) can be worn over all armors. As I said before, I'm a melee ranger and I require a little protection since melee combat classes are not naturally tougher (as they should be) in this game.
*shrugs*
A bit of a left field idea I had eariler, since the invis off the radar leads to hacking possibly and complaints definitly, what about the PvP camo kit taking an overt ranger and his friends, and making him look like a blue dot instead of a red till the first shot?
More like overt camo then actual camo I know but it would still give a gang the element of surprise, think of a pack of players calmly slipping into a city without making a fuss, getting set up into position, then pretty much letting all hell break loose, would be great for scouting too since you wouldn't be forced to go covert and thus be grouped to attack.
But to prevent the whole griefing aspect of running and applying if things go bad it would need
A: at least a can't be used for XX seconds timer after combat
B: Or you can still be tab targeted once you've initated combat no matter what
C: Some chance to be seen though (alertness changed to work with this or just a random chance depending on players around?)
Any thoughts?
I like the sound of it. Then again, it's 3 am.
I love the idea, always have. Would be great idea. People who complain about it would obviously be people who dont weigh up our profession. Do they expect to survive against a sniper at 50m+? Obviously if you cought at close range or tried to shoot at close range, the chances of your suit failing would increase dramatically. Complaints would come but wouldnt be justified, as a sniper/rifleman you expect if you come across a carbineer or pistoleer in town or up close we expect to die, we are long range specialists.
The idea of ghille (sp) suit would give us a great battlefield presense, we wouldnt be the run in and gun class. Overt faction tanks and close quarter combatants (Melee, heavy weaponry and short range (?) weapons such as carbineers, BHs and Pistoleers) would think twice of running into a faction controlled town solo and instead group up with friends and team mates. This would iradicate the 'uber' player who running up to a town hassle free, killing all in his/her path, and would force them into groups to attack a stronghold or group. The Sniper would not be unstopable in this set-up either, the sniper is only realy effective when taking out solo players as his shots can be tracked easily, against a group he may have to just let them pass by to avoid being killed. An attack timer could be included with this ability to make the attacks very very slow but powerfull. If correctly balanced im sure this feature would be THE number one feature within the rifleman profession.
hehe sorry forgot this was the ranger forum ![]()
Im a big fan of this idea but for riflemen only. I dont want to see pistoleers running around as ricks and bushes etc. However i do feel that we (as rangers) deserve an animation on our camo kits that looks like we have paint on and flora on us so we look camoflauged
A guille suit isn't JUST for sniping.
Yes a agree that hunting is possible with pistols and everything, but the 'stand still, go prone, hide, wait, aim carfully and then fire a powerfull shot' is clearly the rifleman domain. I dont realy want to be seeing pistol users hiding out using ghille suit then jumping out at 30m saying boo! bang bang bang, like any other gunfight. It would make the 'hunt' more like an ambush tactic where you just wait them fire continuously until its dead. I much prefer the idea of 'hunt' being stalking the prey, lying in wait, taking cover then taking the target down in one or two shots from long range.I feal if it was available to any weapon user we would find itwould have far too many advantagesand not enough disadvantages.Using in conjunction with a rifle would add much moreagitation and tense atmosphere to to the person using it as riflemen know if they are located or an enemy attacks at close range we are most often dead in one shot. I'd like to see a profession orientate itself to concealmeant and stealth attacks but be it ranger or rifleman i wont be too bothered in the end
lol you just discribed my exact tactics when hunting with my pistol.
I don't think it's exclusively rifleman.
