Thread: Trap not Working bug is a problem, makes me not want to use some traps

This has happened to me with more increasing frequency within the last week or so. I just made Ranger Trap 4 and think my traps should work with more consistency. It seems most of my traps do more sound / graphic effects than actual useful trapping. Oh well...improved traps is on my wish list but in general I have enjoyed Ranger to date.

"I don't see this as a bug. It seems to me that you are just missing from time to time. This happens to me as well. Not very often and not only on the last of a stack. But with throwing traps you can either be successful, have no effect or miss outright. This all seems perfectly normal to me. "

Well, we all have our differing opinions, and my opinion is that if you MISS a trap, it should let you know.

BTW, it does this to me on GREEN level mobs as well with less frequency, since I tested.

However, I normally only use traps on white-red creatures, so failing seems normal.. but the no message and no effect deal HAS to be a bug (IMHO), how could a master scout's Phen Dart have no effect on a flesh eating chuba...?

Just doesn't make sense, and if it indeed is supposed to work this way, then trapping needs a new design.

Another thing, I hear people mentioning that sometimes they get the 'no message/no effect' bug even when it's not the last trap in the stack.

This never happens to me however, it has always been only the last trap of the stack.8

"I hit a creature last night with a phen dart. It lands, I get the message, I see the snared message over the creatures head...then the mob runs a good 15 M to me...DBs me. As I am sitting there pissed at the game, the mob turns and walks away...and I see the -Snared- message pop up. So I know it landed and yet I get no effect."

Phen darts sometimes have a slight delay, I'm assuming it's from lag, where when you snare them they will still run up and it will be like they are right oin your tail for a couple seconds.. just keep your distance and be running.

Ok, I have gotten no message at all on traps that were not the last trap in the batch, and I have had the last trap in the batch both work and fail (with message). So the last trap theory seems erroneous. Also, when there is no message, the trap does fail (either it fails and there is no message or it fails BECAUSE there is no message). Finally when traps hit but have no effect, it may be because the mob is still under the effect of the previous trap (same kind of trap) that you or someone else hit it with.

It's not character specific. I have the exact same problem. It's very frustrating to try to stop a charging bull torton from stomping right over you when one of your profession defining abilities goes on holiday.

Yep... happens to me too, but not always on the last trap, sometimes I just don't get a message the trap has worked or not in the middle of a stack.

So it's not just you.....

it's not just you,the traps r a risky item to use especially up against bigger critters[sharnaffs] if u r a soloist, and this is bull since a ranger should be able to kill any animal with it's skills, but as it is soloist have to run alot when traps fail

I tested this out last night after reading this thread and here's what I noticed...

1) I can get the no message/no effect on any trap in the stack
2) I ALWAYS get the no message/no effect on the last trap in the stack (this has got to be a bug!!!)
3) Trapping failure rate has appeared to increase dramatically over the past 2 or 3 weeks. I'm getting failures on green and blue con mobs as well as failing several times in a row on white & red cons.

This is happening to me quite a bit...and it isnt just with one trap left. As a matter of fact.......when you add the times this happens on top of failed traps, it pretty much means 60-75% trap failure rate. I just thought we had been secretly nerfed or something.........

I hope someone fixes this soon. I am trying to max out trapping. Also....Take note you are also on the same server as me (Shadowfire) and maybe there is an issue with the server?

"Bumping this for some sort of response from someone"

A response from who? The developer can not post on this forum.

Anitem on ineffective traps is already on the list (and has been for quite awhile), aswell as the Top 5 report.

I presume that you want the idea emphasized more in the next report?

I respectively request that unless a poster has something constructive to add to the thread, that they don't bump.

I'm all for someone adding something to the debate, but bumping on its own tends to throw off the entireflow of the forum... And pushes other equally worthwhile threads off the front page.

Good Hunting.
