Cool.. Very informative post Pak.. thanks.

I have read the revamp info but I think I see that when you become jedi you will slowly have to remove points existing regular professions to continue down the jedi path. So, in theory I could be a Master Ranger using a lightsabre to gain more skill points as I progress towards a higher level of jedi. But for every new box of jedi I attain I have to drop one more box of regular skill points to get there?

I guess what I am trying to understand is will I be seeing alot of people running around with training sabres and what not? Even tho they arent quite considered jedi? Or does your particular dilemma have to do with being on TC. Where you are rebuilding a character from scratch and you get to choose the force sensitive skills to have instead of doing the "quests" first as was first talked about. And in order to even start using the light sabre you must complete all six skills.

I think I am getting the gist of it..

To try and explain as much of the system as I understand it:

A series of quests will be needed to unlock the Force Sensitive skills for your character (quests unknown and to be added in Publish 10, this should also unlock your second character slot--no skill dropping should be required for this part). Once you become Force Sensitive, you somehow earn the Force Sensitive skills (currently seem to cost Jedi xp but that's not easy to get for a non-Jedi). Once you have 24 Force Sensitive skills (currently requires 24 skill points), you can take the Padawan Trials. Completing the Padawan Trials is what makes you a Jedi (you get your robe and training saber). I believe it is also when you get your first Jedi skill (like Novice Lightsaber). You cannot use a lightsaber until you complete the trials. This is where the TC regulars start (those who logged in at the right time for it).

Once you have your lightsaber, you just go out and earn Jedi xp (probably very similar to what the xp system is like now) and train in Jedi skills (while surrendering your current skills). Once all of your skill points are in Jedi skills, you can take the Jedi Knight Trials (this is where the Live Jedi start on TC2). At this time, they have the option of joining the Force Ranking System (FRS). The FRS is a PvP system that allows for further Jedi advancement (with ranks in a council). You are permanently overt. And it looks and sounds like a ton of fun.

Current Live Jedi will start somewhere between these two points (TC regular/Live Jedi points) depending on how many skills they have in the current system.

This is my understanding of the system. I can't guarantee that it is right. As you go up the Jedi skill trees, you will need to drop your normal skills. You do not need to drop all your normal skills unless you want to go to full Jedi Knight status. So a Master Ranger could almost certainly go out hunting with a lightsaber. And I think that is about it. Anyone else have a different take on it? And does this further help clarify things?

Whoa! Time to go crystal hunting.. :/ Are pearls still needed? And are they still going to be so tough to get?

You only NEED a color crystal. The damage crystals are extra. Crystals will probably still be tough to get but pearls won't necessarily be the best things out there anymore (the quality will depend on the creature/NPC that drops it). You won't need them but they will be useful.

Update:

1. Do you still need to keep all your FS skills to keep your Jedi skills?
No, you have a separate tree called Jedi progression. These boxes are the only prerequisite for Jedi skills. FS skills do not have any prerequisites at the moment. Maybe the quests will explain this or maybe they are still in development. Here is the Jedi progression tree:

http://www.imagedump.com/index.cgi?pick=get&tp=77743&poll_id=0&warned=y

2. Do the stat mods work as advertised?
Well, I was able to place a camp without scout skills, but I could not craft one. The only camps I had available was basic camps. I will try the HTFB later. I was also able to survey and sample without any artisan skills. I was able to place a camp with level 1 of FS survival. I'll keep on playing with this.

3. How easy/hard is it to level Jedi? Very hard. Right now it takes 200k to get a level 1 skill box. You get about 14 Jedi xp per special and a higher amount when you kill the enemy. I have a feelingyou earn more in PvP but I am not positive. Jedi xp is kind of like combat xp I think. So imagine 200k combat xp for a level 1 box. And you can only make it with a lightsaber. Bounty hunters will have SO much fun. Hehe.

4. I am having lots of fun. It's cheap of me, but I have been re-rolling and trying out all the professions. Doctor, Combat Medic, Pikeman, TKA. All the professions I haven't tried yet. I've also spent time sitting in Theed just watching the Jedi battle it out hour after hour. It is amazing! I even had the opportunity to mourn over one incapped dark Jedi name Brisc Rubal. And I have a little twi'lekk with a saber lance happily killing womp rats on tat. A LOT of fun.

Thanks Nemo, you gave me a definite purpose and I am actually feeling slightly useful. I am now off to re-roll and build some HTFBs.

Now I'm really jealous: You saw Brisc lying around incapped. Was he able to make any nice monkeys with his force skills?

As for the xp, I'm hoping that they change the lightsaber skills to need lightsaber xp again (current Jedi have 3 trees of Jedi xp and one tree of weapon specific lightsaber xp). Jedi xp in the current system is like combat xp. You get 1/10th of your lightsaber xp plus however many force points you use (with the ability to use force powers for Jedi xp similar to what you can do with combat xp and grenades). Making the trees cost 200k Jedi xp for the saber skills just seems a bit cruel. No one will make it up the trees (unless those robes are really good). It would be too boring (I just hope they have some sort of quests that give you Jedi xp).

With the Jedi battles, I agree that it is amazing. Just the special effects are enough to make me want to be a Jedi (and it is nice that the battles are not over in a matter of seconds). For a power comparison, I even tried dueling one of them (novice artisan, just fists). I was down in a matter of seconds. Jedi have duels for over 10 minutes without any robes.

And just remember that the whole point of a game is having fun. If the skills are fun then the Devs are doing their job. The Devs have to balance power vs fun level and that is not easy (especially when a lot of Jedi want their god mode buttons already). The stuff on there is definately not perfect. But just playing with it is one of the best ways to test it. Let the people who enjoy min/maxing character templates worry about balance issues and such. The Devs have paid testers to try and make sure things are working as expected. The player testers are there to find unexpected bugs (and to provide volume testing). And, if you play as you would on Live, then you are helping them look for those bugs. Yes, doing some testing of the actual skills can be useful (the Devs probably tested to make sure they did what was expected but they probably didn't bother having anyone test how useful they are in practice) but just remember that you are testing a game. Making sure that it is fun to play is probably more important than making sure everything works.

When TC2 is a little less bug ridden I am going to re-roll my muppet as FS Ranger again. Anyone fancy teaming up and showing how HUNTING is actually done?

TC2 was FAR too frustrating for me (I left when travel still worked...). If it stays so hard to level a Jedi, there will not be a million of them running around. Only time will tell, of course...

I really hope you're right. Jedi may be cool, but the way they are they could easily make nearly every other profession in the game obsolete if they become more common. They're very overpowered (on purpose) because they were suppose to be very rare, but as they become more common they will throw the rest of the game way out of balance, you can forget doing ny PvP unless your a jedi if that happens (and PvE will have to be impossibly hard too since the PvE jedi will get bored if it doesn't).

Well I've got my fingers crossed and hope I'm totally wrong about what will happen after pub. 10. But I bet you won't be able to sneeze without hitting a jedi (if all the holo grinders is any indication).

Update:

No more testing done recently. I re-rolled Paks as a Master Ranger but need to track down some seriously boney animals before I can build the HTFBs. I chose healing for her this time, which my spouse wanted to play with. I then lost contol of my computer and my account lol. If you meet Paks and she has lost all ability to spell then it is probably not me controlling her. /poke sowi. Just teasing ya kid.

I think I will try again in a few days after the developers have had time to play a bit. One thing that would help both Test Centers a lot is if the bazaar system was working. Right now you can't access any vendors and you cannot put down structures (harvesters) so good resources are extremely hard to come by. And now I hear travel is broken so you are really confined to the resources on whatever planet you are on.

And I hate to say it but most of the problem is that the place is over-run with hologrinding jerks! /grumble People who sit in the star port and spam "gimme crystals!" Gah! Ahem. Sorry, my meaner self took over for a minute. Ignore that little rant.

Because I am twisted I actually find the bugs a little refreshing. It reminds me of the first few days of playing where everything was broken and everyone was excited and asking questions. It also helps that my playstyle (and sad little graphic card) rarely brings me into cities. When a friend calls me up and says: high-powered Jedi are ganking everyone in Coronet!! I think: why would anyone go to coronet? Hehehe. TC2 IS extremely frustrating. Then again, we bought SWG on the day of release, and we brought it back to the store on the day of release and tried to return it. Man it sucked! But now barely a day goes by when I don't double-click that lovely little icon.

I think we have barely scratched the surface of the changes. They have added so MUCH! But really I expect JTL will change the game much more radically then the Jedi revamp will. I do think Jedi will be much harder to attain then it is currently. I agree with Nemo that I hope they add some fun content to make the grind more bearable. When your lightsaber is barely powerful enough to kill Scycs and you get about 60 Jedi xp per creature and you need 200k for the first box! /faint My feet remain firmly planted on an alternate path. But I will enjoy very much watching my more dedicated friends conquer the ways of the Jedi. I can't wait to see the show.
