Ohh mates, this is a great thread! Was just about to ask the same question!
I wanna be a Ranger too
Crafting traps... sitting in the camp telling storiesSounds like me^_^
My other passion is Swordsman/TKA..... I guss i can only be one of them! Any suggestions of what I should take with Ranger?? Swordsman or TKA... Both are so cool!
Agredline - Yeah.. Ranger + Rifleman is very good! A rifleman can go in a cover state where he is hiding... noone can see him(if he succesfully go into cover)! later in rifleman tree he gets the sneak skill, so he can crawl while being in cover..... But with ranger, you will be able to crawl very very fast.. Rifleman is one of the most powerful proffesions in the game!
BH might sound more appealing, but dont hold your breathe! BH jedi missions is bugged and BH is not very good, im affraid... At least considering its the proffesion that takes the most skill points in the game!
But you cool ranger mates! Please tellme if Swordsman or TKA is better with RangerI cant decide between them.. love them both! Just not got much love for powerhammer... and i guss i wanna tank more than running around offensive with comp armor on, but then again, stuff like scytche and curved sword looks so cool

Both are fun. Choose what you think suits you better. I personally like TKA because it is more self sufficient (you can heal your own wounds quite quickly with the meditate tree). But TKA has a very limited range of damage types. All of this is subject to change in the Combat Balance, though (which should happen reasonably soon).

So now I've heard what rangers can't do...now I want to know what they are capable of.
What do you people do for money? Just hunt stuff down? It might be fun taking down huge creatures that give a bunch of xp, but then what do you do? Just kill creatures?
With BH, you are able to hunt Jedi. This seems a lot more appealing than hunting creatures.
I don't really use traps now, and I'm only a 3,2,2,2 scout. My rifle is much more effective, and I can kill the creatures before they even attack me. Why would you want to throw a trap at an animal then wait for it to come up to you to attack it? Why not just attack it from far away?
I understand that Ranger is a very rare and honorable profession, but I don't understand what makes this profession is so desirable. I really wanted to be one, but now I'm having my doubts. It seems like the amount of time put in to getting the title of MR is too much for the little it offers.
Just my two cents.
Rangers don't really get much for the skill points. That is the problem with the class. Taking 2 combat professions will make you a better killer than taking Ranger will. And, with the messed up spawns combined with speeders, the hunting skills of Ranger are not as useful as they could be. But I just like Ranger. I like being able to /areatrack even if it isn't the most useful skill. I like seeing the extra information on a creature even though I know most of it. I like this stuff enough that I am willing to sacrifice combat power for it (currently leaving me with about 0). Whether or not you will like it depends on the type of person you are. But don't expect most of the skills to be useful most of the time.
I decided to go Ranger, just to see how I like it. If I don't like it, I'll surrender it. Could be worse...right?
Another question...what do you guys generally do? Just look for doctors to get missions from or go to the mission terminals or what? I want to know what to expect when I become a ranger.
Doctors? I'm confused. I'll take a mission or two but once I'm out in the field, anything goes. I wander. Lost and daydreaming, tracking a meat I am collecting and going where the herds do.
/whisper This is your local romantic Ranger typing. Might want to get a few opinions from others that arn't as easily distracted. ![]()

Ok. All of thoes complaints do suck. Are the developers going to fix them or are these just hopes that people have?

you can get a contract from a doctor (he tells you he needs 5k of this meat)
you can find the best hide/meat out there farm it and sell it in theed or coronet
you can join a hunting party and gather lots of grinding hide/meat
you can get missions from terminals and hunt that animal
basicaly get lots meat and or hide and sell

I'll give you an example for what I do for money sometimes (I don't need it a lot but sometimes it helps). I ran around on my home planet today (Dantooine) harvesting Herb Meat (currently on Naritus it's over 900 OQ and great stuff).
The Doctors on our server are currently paying between 25 and 50 cpu for this meat. I did two sets of buffs today (3 hours each) and hunted for 6 hours total. I was hunting solo and am a TKM so I was killing somewhat quickly and managed to harvest 33K units of Herb Meat today (mostly from Pikets).
So if you do the math, from 6 hours of gametime today I pulled enough of this meat to make anywhere from 700K to 1.5 Million depending on who I sell to. So if good spawns of meat or hide are out there (usually at least one at all times) you can make a killing by concentrating on that resource type. To find out what drops a certain type just hit up swgcreatures.com and do an Advanced Search. Hope that helps.
So much can be done for this class, i really see them redoing it in the near future.
I wish the tracking was more detailed
Trapping is kinda of not worth it imho.
Camps are nice to look at but how often are you in the wild with out a droid in the group for the stations?

2 main things that i can think of
tracking for krayt hunts and being able to harvest large amounts of organics to sell to doc
meat doesnt grow on trees =)
