Thread: How would you feel about haven to get master marksman/scout to get ranger?

again i disagree...

some defense stackers (master rifle/ master swords/ fencer defenses) can solo a krayt...

however, with ranger skills to suck up skill points, you would be hard pressed to solo a krayt or kimo because we all know that scouting skills do not equal hunting skills.

Ive been 2 master ranged professions, and all of the melee professions... and with ranger, ive never soloed a krayt.

the one time i tried defense stacking, I could... and it took me forever

the only main difference with the ranged/ melee debate are the tactics involved. When ranged, i pair with a melee, when melee, i tank for my ranged partner..

I would feel like leaving the profession. Ranged combat almost made me quit swg, it bores me endlessly.

"Aendedor but if u had a pistol or rifle bounes with ranger it would not be harder but easyer. That is what i mean with a revamp to ranger. The way ranger stands now it is a pointless field u dont need to be a ranger to harvest u can be a master scout with a driod and food and harvest as much as a master ranger does now."

I am a Ranger because that is all I have ever wanted to be, the fact that you and many others consider it a waste of skill points is irrelevent to me.

So, with the current classes and skills, I can master one combat profession which means that I am viable in PvE, which is great I am happy with this

In terms of being a master markmans, instead of being good with one weapon I become crap with three, woopy doo

Even if Master Ranger was given ranged weapon skill bonuses they could never be as good as someone who has mastered the individual weapon.

So, I would be worse off in PvE, still, even with weapon skill bonuses.

So no thanks.

I am not for the idea of mastering Marksman to get Ranger, BUT I am all for having to get at least one line of combat (or a novice elite profession) to get Ranger IF and only IF we were given strong Ranger weapons.

The pistol/carbineer professions have lower bonuses then rifleman. I assume the devs did this because they can stack with Bounty Hunter. If they would give Ranger a Rifle tree they would have to tone down rifleman or insert some hard caps to prevent stacking (in comes one of the most crowded professions in the game shouting against the changes). They're having enough trouble balancing the combat professions as they are and I very much doubt they will make these kind of major changes in the CB or shortly after.

Second, the more intelligent BH's have been complaining that every BH in the game is the same and they would rather be able to have more skillpoints available to allow them to pick the weapon they like. Our skillpoints have been balanced in such a way that we can pick one master combat prof. I'd prefer it to stay that way.

I think the devs originally had the idea that people master one combat prof and pair that up with crafting/ranger/squad leader/merchant/CM/Doctor. The people that wanted to go full combat could do commando/bh. The people that wanted to go full crafting could go merchant/craft.

I agree with Calc, except I'd change the professon spedific weapons to simply strong bonuses to melee or ranged combat skills.

Otherwise, I think having to master marksman is a bad idea. I only have 1 skill point left right now, and I'm only 4-2-0-2 rifleman for combat skills. IF I were forced to master marksman, I would be a far weaker hunter than I already am.

SOrry not trying to single out a a field but just trying to see what is best for ranger as a whole. If get marksman would give us the skills we need to make ranger a better combat class for pve i would welcome it. Even thoe id like tk better then marksman skill. But when i think ofa hunter ranged weapons and concealment come to mind. Not runing out to a rancor to beat it with my fists. Buta rifle even pistol with concealment worked would make the field good. If u get the skills to go with them. Such as deadly bleeds, we could get in a few shots from 50 meters with a rifle and let the animla bleed out. Also with big game hunt sorry but a ranger should beable to work a kryat or kimo down with out any help. Yes should take 20-30 mins to solo it but we are the best hunters and know the weak spots, so with a bleed and conceal we would never show are selfs. But with melee there is no point to conceal, sorry but if u are on top of an animal it makes it pointless to have.

Actuallly if a Ranger is hunting for the sport of it and wishes a challenge, he would hunt with a slingshot if thats what would be a challenge for him. Stop looking at it from a here and now RL hunting aspect. Cavemen hunted with rocks and sharpened sticks. Now I am not saying our technology should degress but I am saying that a Ranger shouldnt be locked into conventional weapons (ie. laser weapons, rocket launchers, flamethrowers) I am saying they should have a choice what to use. Technically, a VK is like a knife when attacking so it isnt like they are going at it barefisted. Pikemen would be using the latest version of a spear (not all spears are thrown).

Because your style of play is to use a laser weapon, some of us like to get up close and personal with our kill..../startRP ....to become one with nature and let the spirit of the hunt take us to our destiny....to taste victory and reap the reward of our kill and to honor our prey with the ability to look us in the eye

Not a fan of that idea. I think our skill point investment is as high as it should be. By adding any extra requirment would require many Rangers (myself included) to change the way they play a ton.

Not meant as a flame, but I would think that if you wanted to be Master Ranger with Master Markman just go master it.

I am currently (or one box shuffle from it)

  • Master Scout

  • Master Ranger

  • CH 0400

  • Pistoleer 4043

  • Novice Medic

I really like this, I can use better than a level 20 pet (great for mob controll and my well being) I enjoy pistols, close enough to get a quick heal in, but not so close I get munched sans buffs and armor (as I am much of the time), pretty good with a pistol and can use a combo of stims on pets to keep alive.

Not to mention that brandy makes melee a lot of fun..../burp. heh I suppose I wouldn't mind using the bow if it were effective up close. I quit playing rifleman because nearly everything charges you once you're discovered.

I think that rifles IV would be a good pre-req for rangers, and within ranger a few rifle specials. This gives them a slight balance and added power in PvP and PvE, while still keeping the hunter aura about them. It would besimilar to how smug is set up. You go up pistols and could go on up through Master Pistoleer and use your smug specials, or just stay with pistols IV and spend the points elsewhere and still be effective. They need more combat skills, bottom line. What is a better weapon for a Ranger to specialize in than a rifle? I was TKM/Master Ranger and I felt very limited. Also, when looking at marksman, there is no reason to get carbineer or rifleman besides just the weapon specialty. Make Squad Leader(basically a waste of SP right now)more effective by giving them carbine specials and adding carbines IV as a pre-req, and make Ranger more effective by adding these changes. Make the combat support classes more effective by adding a single weapon specialization. Anyone?

What if, for instance, cover(not sneak)became a Ranger special instead of rifleman, because that ability is solely for PvE anyway, and Rangers also got rifle melee attack(s)? I'm sure they could come up with an interesting replacement in rifleman to make them even more unique.

Poser, this is not a smart idea, no matter how you frame it.

Master marksman is the weakest of all the weapons users. Period. It's a fact.

Go master a weapon and let this idea die the natural death it deserves. CPR can't keep this one alive, no matter how much you try.

I agree with you that Master Marksman should not be the pre-req, but not that it is the weakest combat class. Rangers need a weapon specialty, and I feel that rifles would be the best fitting and most valuable to the profession.

And there's no need to flame. We're all posers here, even you. The forums are for people to talk about things, not to get advice on thier opinions from you.
